Air Canada is now offering walk up paid access to two of their Maple Leaf lounges. If you traveling via Calgary or Toronto you can now pay $55 to access so long as you travelling on a same day ticket with any airline. We would assume this is temporary since travel has still not returned to pre-pandemic levels and there is room in the lounges to have paying guests visit. Learn more here. 

AIR MILES Bonus Boom is back - earn bonus miles with participating partners + 95 bonus miles with three different Bonus Boom offers

 
The latest AIR MILES Bonus Boom event kicked off today with your usual bunch of bonus miles offers for shopping or completing actions with various AIR MILES partners. Most of the bonuses are available between today and October 13 and once again if you use three different Bonus Boom offers you'll get 95 bonus AIR MILES. Just like the past few Bonus Boom events you have the ability to get the 95 bonus miles all from one retailer so long as they have multiple offers. For example Sobeys has three different offers available so if you meet the criteria for those three offers you'll get the 95 bonus miles.

Business Class lounges in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec have had to update their access policies over the past few weeks to reflect those provinces proof of vaccination requirements.  The Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge and WestJet Elevation lounge in Calgary now require proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test from those wishing to enter the lounges while Maple Leaf, Priority Pass and other lounges in Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec require proof of vaccination.

Aeroplan Availability Alert: Business Class on Turkish Airlines out of Canada for up to 4 people in March 2022

 
Here's our next Aeroplan availability alert! There is a bunch of business class availability showing in March 2022 for flights to Istanbul. It appears most of TK's flights on Sunday, Wednesday, and Fridays out of Montreal have up to four business class seats open. Toronto is showing most days with four seats while Vancouver is hit and miss with only a few days showing up to four seats. Aeroplan charges 70,000 points each way for these partner award flights in business class plus the $39 partner award booking fee.

Avianca LifeMiles award flight sale: Save up to 30% on select Star Alliance routes

 

Avianca LifeMiles is once again offering discounted award flights on select Star Alliance routes. These offers are available for booking until October 11, 2021. Remember that right now you can buy LifeMiles with a 150% bonus via the OMAAT offer which you can combine with this award sale as that sale runs until October 15. The best options are the business class flights between North America and Asia that are now available for 60,000 to 64,000 LifeMiles one way. This includes Vancouver to Taipei at the 64,000 mile level. There is one other Canadian option and that is Toronto-San Francisco in Business Class for 20,000 miles each way.  You can buy 128,000 miles (52,000 + 150% bonus) for US$1716 which would get you round trip flights between Vancouver and Taipei in business class. Aeroplan has brought back a buy points bonus for the next couple of weeks. This tiered offer sees bonuses once again ranging from 50% to 80% dependent on how many points you buy. Over the course of this year we have had several articles covering credit cards in Canada that we feel are due for an overhaul. It all started out with our first post way back in January - initially we wanted to cover all five cards in that post however we wrote so much about the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card we decided to split up the articles and now three quarters of the year later we finish off the series for this year. Alaska Airlines revealed the details of their new top elite tier in the Mileage Plan program last week. The new MVP Gold 100K will officially launch by the end of January 2022. Qualification will require earning 100,000 Mileage Plan miles or 140 segments earned on Alaska Airlines, oneworld and partner airlines. There is also requirement to have at least 24 of those flights on Alaska Airlines. Receive a 30% bonus when you buy World of Hyatt points

 

Hyatt has released another buy points bonus!  This bonus is the same 30% offer we saw in January of this year and with the bonus you are buying points for US$ 1.85 cents each. There is potential value in buying these points for select Hyatt stays around the globe as you can easily get more value than that per point on the right redemptions. For example, when we posted about the reopening of the Park Hyatt Toronto we showed how you could redeem 25,000 points for a stay that cost $713 or a value of 2.85 cents in C$. Convert the per point cost of 1.85 US to C$ and you have about 2.37 cents but then you have to add GST/HST so you are looking at paying around 2.62 cents per point. So you would save some money by buying points - not a lot but it's a savings nonetheless.

Throughout the pandemic we have seen most airlines and hotels provide extensions of elite statuses, benefits, pausing point expiry and also lowering elite qualification requirements. Hilton Hotels who have done all of these for their Honors program numerous times over the past 18 months have announced a further extension to these global loyalty benefits:

Earn up to 3x points for stays at IHG Hotels & Resorts in Canada and Worldwide

 

IHG Hotels & Resorts are banking on their members making multiple stays with their next systemwide promotion. Members of IHG Rewards can now register for this offer that provide up to 3x points for stays between October 1 and December 31, 2021. The catch is that to earn 3x points you'll have stay three times, that is on your first stay there is no bonus, your second stay will 2x points and then from your third stay on you will earn the 3x points. If you have a lot of IHG stays planned then this isn't too bad of promotion, especially if you are staying a pricier hotels as offers where it is 2x and 3x are most rewarding when you pay more for a stay. However for some this offer may not even be on the radar since this is the only major hotel chain not offering a bonus on your first stay - all the other's systemwide promos award some sort of bonus even on the first stay.

Earn up to 15,000 bonus points when you stay with Radisson Hotels in Canada and the rest of the Americas

Radisson Hotels Americas now has a trio of systemwide offers for stays at hotels in the ‘Americas’ program which number at over 600 in the U.S., Canada, Latin America & Caribbean. The first offer that came out this month awards 7,000 bonus points per night, the second offer was a redemption offer that provides a free night e-certificate when you redeem points for a 2+ night stay and now we have this offer. Members who register for this latest offer can earn up to 15,000 bonus Radisson Rewards points. The bonus is awarded as 3,000 bonus points on the first stay and then 12,000 more points on the second stay. Now the question is can this promotion be stacked the 7,000 point offer and we don’t know 100%. The 7K offer has no terms saying that you can’t earn it with other promos however this 15K offer does state it cannot be combined with other promotions.

September 14 Update: 10% cash back offer on Tangerine cards extended, Diners Club loses access to Plaza Premium lounges & more confirmed Amex Cobalt multiplier locations

Huge bonus for a few days only! 20,000 bonus AeroMexico Club Premier Points with just one Choice Hotels stay

 
Over the course of this year AeroMexico and Choice Hotels have run some very lucrative stay promotions. First it was up to 10,000 points for one stay in March and April then they had up to 15,000 points for one stay in June/July, a 10,000 bonus point offer for start of September (and the end of September). Now we know why there is a break in the 10,000 point offer for this month and that’s because they are offering 20,000 points until September 19! So you really only have 5 days to get in on this offer but it can super worth it as that’s a huge bonus to get! If you can get yourself to even a cheap Sleep Inn or something like that over the next few days do it!

Save 15% when you redeem CIBC Aventura points for travel to sun destinations (and Alaska)

 

 With travel slowly making a return and more Canadians looking to get away for this winter after being at home for the better of two years it's nice to see a promotion like this come out.  Earlier in the month CIBC launched a discounted reward offer for their Aventura cardholders that sees the points requirement for travel to sun destinations (outside of lower continental U.S.) reduced by 15%.

Summary of global hotel systemwide bonus points promotions – September Edition

 
Here is your monthly update of all the global hotel bonus points promotions that are available. One of the easiest ways to rack up lots of hotel points is to take advantage of these systemwide bonuses that come from many of the big chain programs and also from the lesser known programs. In fact, right now it should be rare for you NOT to earn a bonus. Unless you are staying at a boutique hotel or perhaps an independent hotel most other hotels out there have a bonus. So take advantage of it! These systemwide bonuses simply require you to register beforehand and they do not affect hotel pricing as long as you book a point eligible rate which are most rates out there. Of course booking through a third party site like Expedia or Rocketmiles does not count as most chains only award points on bookings that are made directly with them.  Here are all the current promotions that are available to everyone this month: 

3 days only! Receive up to a 60% bonus when you buy Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles

The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan buy miles bonus is back and once again we see it up at the 60% level which does seem to be new normal for the airline.  This time however they are only offering 60% for three days and then it drops to a 50% bonus.

Best Western Rewards – Earn a $20 Best Western gift card for each night you stay (up to 5 nights total)

 
Best Western‘s next major promotion is out and….. it’s exactly the same promotion we saw over the summer. The offer is the $20 Best Western Gift Card for each night you stay for up to 5 nights. Those five nights do not have to be consecutive. You can have 5 one night stays, 2 two night and 1 one night and so on. Members simply need to register to take advantage of it and then you’ll earn the $20 Best Western Gift Card for each night you stay between Sep 12 and November 22 You’ll want to note however that since the Gift Card is a bonus (you’re not buying it outright) they have an expiry date on them and that is March 31, 2022. So take this into account if you are taking part in this promotion in that you’ll want to try to have some Best Western stays that you can use those limited time gift cards on.

New 35,000 RBC Rewards point welcome bonus on the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Business Card

 Back in April RBC revealed new 35,000 bonus point welcome offers on their consumer Avion cards, namely the  RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card as well as the RBC Avion Visa Platinum Card and the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege. Noticeably absent at the time was no increased bonus for the business version of the card. That's changed now as the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Business Card is also now offering a 35,000 RBC Rewards Points welcome bonus. You simply have to be approved for the card and the bonus is yours.

Earn up to 60,000 Bonus Avios^ with the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite Card

 
The next card to lay claim to fame with a best ever welcome bonus is the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite Card. Nine months after it was first announced, we are now getting our first glimpse of Scene+, which is the offspring of Scotiabank's Scotia Rewards and Cineplex's SCENE program. As of November 22, 2021 the two programs will merge to become Scene+.  Overall this can be 'scene' as a win for both programs, more so for SCENE members but it does provide some extra earning and redemption opportunities for Scotia Rewards members as well.

The next card in line from American Express that is getting some changes is in their suite of small business cards and that is the American Express® Business Gold Rewards Card. This week Amex quietly announced some changes to the card that has been chugging along in its current form for quite some time now. The changes that were revealed affect points earning, insurance benefits and the annual fee seen on the card.

Receive a free night certificate when you redeem Radisson Rewards points for a two night stay

 

Radisson Hotels Americas revealed a pretty awesome redemption promotion today. That promo will award a free night certificate each time you redeem points for a two night or longer award stay until December 31. Members can earn up to five of the free night certificates. The free night certificates must be used between January 17 and May 23, 2022.

Rewards Canada reader Jason T. reached out to us via Facebook and asked if the promotion for earning Air Canada Aeroplan points for donating to the Canadian Red Cross counts towards Everday Status Qualification. We reached out to Aeroplan and have confirmation that yes those points do count! Technically speaking you could donate $5,000 and receive 100,000 points which would earn you Aeroplan 25K status. But as Jason also points out these donations aren't tax deductible so if you were to donate $5,000 that's a significant amount you can't deduct that from your taxes. You might have to do the math to see if the Status is worth more than the deduction. Nonetheless this is something to consider if you are nearing that 100K mark and need a boost you to get that status. Click here to learn more about this donation offer.

Wow! Choice Hotels changed it up for their next systemwide promotion! It’s not earn a free night or earn a gift card offer where they bonus your stay(s) to 8,000 points. This time they have a multi-night offer that sees them awarding 2,000 points when you complete a 2 night stay or 5,000 points for a 3 night or longer stay. Not the most valuable of offers but better than nothing – ideally your best stay is 3 nights to maximize the offer.
