Another amazing promotion from Amex Offers came out today! Today we see the return of a grocery offer that provides a $30 statement credit when you spend at least $60 three times at Empire Group of grocery stores! Personally I received the offer on our Platinum Card
Earn 5x points on Apple purchases via the Aeroplan eStore with the return of an online shopping event for Apple! This works for eligible online purchases made via the Aeroplan eStore for delivery to your home or office or even those you choose to pick up in store. This is how I typically do my Apple purchases, buy online and pick up within 2-3 hours at the Apple store all the while earning tons of Aeroplan points (plus the points or miles earned on the credit card!)
WestJet Rewards is offering 100,000 bonus WestJet dollars that will be shared amongst members who book flights over the next two days. Taking a page out of Aeroplan's playbook with this promotion, all members who register and book will receive a minimum of 10 bonus WestJet dollars but can stand to earn more out of the total pool of 100,000 dollars.

BMO announced a positive change to their proprietary BMO Rewards program that will happen in August. As posted by HermanH on RFD, BMO will make their current promotional redemption offer of 150 points to $1 for any travel booked via any provider permanent as of August 2, 2022.

Preferred Hotel Group is celebrating International Pineapple Day with an offer of 27,000 bonus I Prefer points on stays at their hotels. This offer simply needs to be booked today for stays completed by December 31, 2022. The offer is similar to the their Cyber Monday offer of 2021 that provided 30,000 bonus albeit that one required a two night stay whereas this offer will be awarded on a one night stay.

The Hyatt Place Montréal – Downtown has opened its doors early! This hotel that was featured in our article New Hyatt Hotel Openings in Canada for 2022 and the last time we checked it was scheduled to open in July 3 but that appears to have been bumped up and they are open for business. It makes sense to try to open prior to the Canada Day long weekend!

As much as AIR MILES has been in the news for negative reasons there are still opportunities with the program to earn miles and this is one of them. For the remainder of 2022 AIR MILES members can earn 100 bonus miles for stays of 2 or more nights at IHG Hotels Worldwide. This is the perfect type of offer for those who do not stay at IHG Hotels often enough to justify earning points in the hotel chain's own loyalty program.
The very popular Scotia Gold American Express Card is currently offering 40,000 points which are worth $400 towards any travel that you book via any method and charge to the card. On top of this they are offering a waiver on the first year annual fee which saves you $120. The bonus is broken up into two separate requirements. the first 20,000 points are awarded when you spend at least $1,000 on the card in the first 3 months and then you can earn an additional 20,000 points when you spend at least $7,500 in your first year of having the card.

Aeroplan made several changes to their reward ticket change policy today. The first changes see them removing change fees on one more award ticket economy fare class:

Another great travel Amex Offers offer came out today. This one provides a statement credit when you use your registered Amex card at Hyatt Hotels in Canada. Personally I received the offer on my Platinum Card but not on my Cobalt or Gold Rewards cards.
Two weeks to the day of the news of AIR MILES losing Sobeys, Safeway etc. as partners comes news of another big loss. We just received an email from Staples Canada announcing they will be leaving the AIR MILES program as of July 1st, 2022.

A question I am starting to see more of right now is: when is Amex's Shop Small promotion returning? We've seen the annual Shop Small promotion already launch this month in France, Germany and the U.K.. So will Canada be next? Hopefully it will be! Over the past few years here it has launched as early as June 24 but as late as July 17 as well. American Express Canada has not given us any indication yet as to if and when the Shop Small promotion will launch but our fingers are crossed we will see it over the coming weeks. We have been advised that the current welcome bonus offer on the Scotiabank Gold American Express card will now end on June 29 instead of July 4. The offer provides a bonus of up to 45,000 Scene+ points. At this point in time we have not yet been told what the new offer will be as of June 30. However with the revamp of the Platinum Card and the Red Amex cards from Scotia happening in June we feel there will be a focus on those card rather than the Gold so if I was to guess I would say the offer on the Gold will either remain the same or be lowered. Hyatt has come out with yet another buy points offer and this time they have returned to a bonus. When you buy 5,000 or more points in one transaction they will give a 30% bonus. This is a decent bonus if you need points right now or want to save on some more expensive summer stays with Hyatt. The price per point with a 30% bonus is about 1.85 cents (US$) which is higher than the 1.68 cents we saw during the last promotion with a 30% discount.
Air Canada has announced a new four times per week flight to Bangkok, Thailand and the resumption of flights to Mumbai. Both routes will be winter seasonal with Toronto to Mumbai (via London) launching on October 29 and Vancouver to Bangkok starting up on December 1.
This is something we like to see! RBC has decided to bring their flagship card into the game of bigger and better bonuses. So many other issuers have been steadily increasing the offers on their cards - many with their best ever bonuses - and even RBC has done so on their British Airways, Cathay Pacific and WestJet cards. Now, it's the RBC Avion Visa Infinite card's turn. For the past month now this card has had a new welcome bonus of up to 55,000 RBC Rewards points which just happens to be the best ever bonus ever provided for this card.
In this episode we are going to discuss the news that rocked the Canadian loyalty space in June 2022. That news is Empire Company Limited, who are better known for their grocery and drug stores like Sobeys, Safeway, Thrifty Foods and others becoming co-owners of the Scene+ program. This of course means they will be dropping the AIR MILES program which is another big hit to one of Canada’s most popular programs.
The foundation of the Scene+ program (nee Cineplex Scene) ever since its inception in 2007 was to be able to earn points that you could redeem for free movies. That fundamental premise of the program abruptly came to an end this week after what appears to be an unannounced change from Cineplex. In the last few days or so Cineplex has started charging an online booking fee for ordering tickets on their website or via their app. This fee is also being charged on tickets that you redeem Scene+ points for!

Air Canada has brought back a limited time offer where you can earn extra Aeroplan points for buying Air Canada gift cards. The offer is available until June 19th and will award 1 point/$ spent on gift cards up to $750 and 3 points/$ if you spend over $750. Do note these don't code as Air Canada purchases on your credit card as they are processed by Buyatab so you won't earn extra points on the Aeroplan suite of co-brand credit cards or any credit card that has a travel accelerator.
In light of the recent news of Sobeys et al. moving from AIR MILES to Scene+ and my updating of the Rewards Canada review of the BMO AIR MILES World Elite Mastercard it became very apparent to me that BMO is going to have to revamp their portfolio of AIR MILES co-brand credit cards. In this post we'll look at why I think these cards need to be updated and how the bank should update them.
Our American Express Cobalt Card Confirmed Multiplier Locations feature received a nice big update today thanks to a couple of our rewards. The page saw a trio of Edmonton restaurants added thanks to CedricT and over 20 restaurants in Minneapolis, Chicago and Decorah were added thanks to Aaron B.! Aaron also confirmed that Lime Scooters in the U.S. code as 2x points as they do here in Canada.
I can't even count now the number of time that ownership of Radisson Hotels or its subsidiaries has changed hands over the past few decades and it continues this week with Choice Hotels announcing the acquisition of Radisson Hotels Americas. The Americas portion of Radisson only emerged about a year ago after the parent company had to split their Radisson family of brands in two due to Chinese ownership and U.S. privacy rules. Thus they created Radisson Hotels Worldwide and Radisson Hotel Americas, the latter to appease to the U.S. government. It is the latter as well that is subject of this purchase.
Alaska Airlines has launched a new buy miles offer that runs until December 23rd. This time the bonus once
again ranges from 30% to 50% depending on how many miles you buy.
Ideally you want to buy so you get that 50% bonus which means you’d have
to buy 30,000 or more miles. We see the 50% bonus quite frequently now but we also see 60% quite often now as well so unless you really need the miles right now you may want to wait to buy.
Flying Blue's buy miles bonus has returned and it's bigger and better than ever! The offer provides up to a 120% bonus when you buy Flying Blue miles which is 20% higher than we have ever seen. If you are short some miles for a redemption or want to speculatively buy for if and when we see a 50% off business class promo reward you'll definitely want to check out this offer.
