Last seen right around this time last year, cardmembers now a month to convert their Membership Rewards points to Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors and receive 25% or a 30% bonus respectively. Cathay Pacific has brought back a bonus for converting credit card points to their Asia Miles. The bonus is 10% if you convert to a total of less than 30,000 miles. If you convert for 30,000 or miles you'll receive a 15% bonus. For those of us in Canada you can receive this bonus on transfers from American Express Membership Rewards, HSBC Rewards and RBC Avion Rewards. There is one more new Marriott Hotel set to open this year now. The Residence Inn Laval has popped up on Marriott's website and right now they are stating an opening date of December 2022. If you recall from our post on New Marriott Hotel Openings in Canada for 2022 the year started off with just 6 new hotels planned for this year. This is now the ninth hotel on the list however it does not appear that the Moxy Banff or Moxy Halifax will make their opening this year now so we may me end up with seven new hotels for this year. This new hotel in Laval is situated right near the Cosmodome museum and was formerly a Quality Suites Hotel. Click here to learn more about this new hotel.

A buy points bonus for Marriott Bonvoy has returned and this time it is a flat rate offer. All members will receive 25% extra points when they buy 2,000 or more points in one transaction. This is one of the lowest bonuses we have seen from Marriott for buying points in quite sometime. Over the past couple years the bonuses have typically been running in the 40 to 55% range. Still if you are in a spot where you require some extra points for a redemption now would be the time to buy since you’ll earn some additional points.

Marriott had another luxury hotel opening yesterday that was somewhat overshadowed by the announcement of the W Toronto official opening. This other luxury hotel that officially opened on July 21 is the Dorian, Autograph Collection Calgary. The building the Dorian is in also houses the new Courtyard Calgary Downtown which also opened on the same day. 

The highly anticipated W Toronto is finally here!

The W Toronto, one of the most anticipated new Marriott Hotels in Canada is officially opening its doors. This is a a hotel that we have had on our list new Marriott Hotel openings in Canada for several years now and after numerous delays primarily owing to the pandemic we are happy to pass along the news of its opening. Marriott sent out an official press release today and while the website shows today as the opening date it appears the hotel will begin welcoming guests as of August 1.

Big bonus in Burlington: 10,000 bonus points per stay at The Pearle Hotel & Spa, Autograph Collection

 

The Pearle Hotel & Spa, Autograph Collection is one of the newer hotels Marriott has in Canada having only opened in late 2021 and right now you can earn a big bonus for staying there. Two new Marriott hotels will be opening in Montreal this year

 

This is a relatively quiet year for new Marriott Hotel openings in Canada with only six new locations but we can actually add two more hotels to that list.
