After the big summer bonuses ended earlier this week American Express has shifted gears with their next acquisition campaign and are looking to existing cardmembers to do some pumping for them. You may ask how are the planning to do that? Simple reward the existing cardmembers with more points. American Express is offering existing Cardmembers Double Points for each approved referral between September 21st and October 26th, 2022
The referral bonuses are available on a long list of cards with the only the AIR MILES and SimplyCash cash back cards being excluded
The referral bonuses:
Cardmembers could earn a referral bonus of 20,000 Bonus Membership Rewards® Points for every approved referral if their friend applies for the Card by October 26, 2022.

You can get a card and then refer for the bonus points
If you don't have any of these American Express cards yet and know you can refer someone there is time for you to apply for and receive one and then start referring. Ideally give yourself enough time, I would say if you apply in the next week to two weeks you would likely have one to two weeks after receiving your card and activating it to be able to refer friends and family to a card.
Wrapping it up
This is the second year in a row that Amex has followed up on their big summer bonuses with increased referral bonuses. The promotion this year is different than last year's in that last year you could simply refer one person and earn a lot of points as the bonus was awarded on your spend afterwards. This year if you want to earn a lot of points it will take multiple referrals which is what Amex may just be counting on.
