American Express Fall Offers provide up to 85,000 points for consumer cards and up to 110,000 points for business cards

 

American Express' big summer campaign came to a close earlier this week and the fall acquisition offers are now available. The fall campaign has a mix of standard welcome bonus offers and some elevated offers though not as high as what we saw over the summer. With that being said, all of the current welcome bonuses are still some of the more valuable offers in the market.

Marriott’s Fall systemwide promotion is now live. The promotion offers 2,000 bonus points per stay starting with your second stay. This offer can be earned at all participating Marriott hotels in Canada and worldwide for stays until December 15, 2022. Registration for the offer closes on December 1. We have received a reply from RBC on how their Avion Rewards redemptions are handled when you have bank account and an ION card (but not an Avion credit card) Here is the question we asked in our RBC Rewards has now officially become Avion Rewards post:

If you have an RBC bank account that qualifies for Avion Premium and gets the 100 points to $1 redemption rate and you add in an ION card, what redemption rate for travel do you get? The 100 to $1 or the 172 to $1? 

American Express referral bonuses doubled until Oct 26

After the big summer bonuses ended earlier this week American Express has shifted gears with their next acquisition campaign and are looking to existing cardmembers to do some pumping for them. You may ask how are the planning to do that? Simple reward the existing cardmembers with more points. American Express is offering existing Cardmembers Double Points for each approved referral between September 21st and October 26th, 2022

Great deal! WestJet Calgary to Amsterdam for $599 economy class or $2680 business class ($2380 with Amex Platinum)

WestJet recently announced the return of flights between Calgary and Amsterdam for the winter season and they have some great pricing on the route. The airline was awarded more slots at the Dutch airport so flights will return on November 14 and operate 3x weekly with their Boeing 787 Dreamliner featuring their international business and premium economy class cabins. Hopefully the mess we've all heard about at AMS during the summer travel season is fixed by the time these flights start operating again!

Air Canada Elites will receive double Priority Rewards for the remainder of the year & a new targeted American Express Use Points for Purchases offer

Air Canada sent an email out yesterday to elite members offering double Priority Rewards for the second half of 2022:

Finally, recognizing that most have already requalified for Status, we’re launching a special offer to reward Elite members for their travels through the end of this year. We’ll double every Priority Reward you earn between July 1st and December 31st, 20222. As a reminder, Priority Rewards give you 50% off every eligible Aeroplan flight reward on Air Canada and any of our airline partners

It's back! American Express Transfer Bonuses to Marriott Bonvoy (25%) and Hilton Honors (30%)

American Express' bonus for transferring Membership Rewards points to Marriott Bonvoy & Hilton Honors has returned! Last seen right around this time last year, cardmembers now a month to convert their Membership Rewards points to Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors and receive 25% or a 30% bonus respectively. This offer is available from September 15 to October 15, 2022

Cathay Pacific has brought back a bonus for converting credit card points to their Asia Miles. The bonus is 10% if you convert to a total of less than 30,000 miles. If you convert for 30,000 or miles you'll receive a 15% bonus. For those of us in Canada you can receive this bonus on transfers from American Express Membership Rewards, HSBC Rewards and RBC Avion Rewards. You'll want to check your email or your American Express account to see if you have been selected for a limited time increased Use Points for Purchases redemption rate. Depending on which card you have you might get a 20% or 50% increase in value. For example targeted Platinum Cardmembers are getting an offer for $15 per 1,000 points redeemed and Cobalt Cardmembers are receiving $12 for 1,000 points. Both cards standard Use Points for Purchases redemption rate is 1,000 points for a $10 credit. If you are targeted for this offer you'll want to seriously consider redeeming right now if you happen to be someone who doesn't convert points to Amex's travel partners nor use Amex's Fixed Points for Travel option where you can extract more value than the 1.2 or 1.5 cents per point with this promotion. We updated our review of the American Express® Gold Rewards Card today. This card which we first reviewed in 2010 is one of the best travel cards in Canada, in fact it was the best from 2011 to 2017 until the Cobalt Card came out. Over the years we had some piece meal updates to that review so we thought it's time to do a complete refresh for 2022 especially seeing that it was revamped in 2021. IGA stores in Quebec to start accepting American Express cards and confirmation of Air Canada as part of the International Airline Program

Great news being forwarded on to us from one our readers! Sam let us know that they received a letter from Scotiabank letting them know that their Scotiabank American Express Card will accepted at IGA stores in Quebec as of October 2022. Historically, most IGA stores in Quebec have not accepted American Express (some have though) and while the letter states acceptance of the Scotiabank Amex I would be led to believe this means all Amex cards will be accepted at IGA stores in Quebec. This of course means you'll soon be able to earn up to 6x points per dollar spent at Quebec IGA stores with the Scotia Amex Cards or 5x points on cards like the American Express Cobalt Card.
