Canada Jetlines will launch with Toronto to Calgary flights instead of Moncton & Winnipeg and British Airways adding Vancouver to London Gatwick flights (with lots of award availability!)

This is getting a little confusing. Canada Jetlines was to launch flights from Toronto to Moncton and Winnipeg earlier this month. That was pushed back to next week due to a delay in the airline receiving their license to operate. But now with today's press release from the airline, they will officially launch on September 22 with flights between Toronto and Calgary. Moncton and Winnipeg are totally gone - you can't even book these anymore. They make no mention of Moncton and Winnipeg being dropped, so I wonder about those people who booked travel on these flights if Jetlines is protecting them on other airlines or just providing refunds. I'll be honest, all these changes over the course of this past month and dropping routes before they are even started doesn't bode well for this start up. I wish them the best and hope they can get their act together here as they'll need it to gain the confidence of Canadian travellers. (Source Canada Jetlines)

Canada Jetlines, the newest Canadian leisure airline has had to delay their launch from August 15th to August 29th. The inaugural flights from Toronto to Winnipeg and Moncton have been pushed back as the airline will not have complete regulatory approval in time for the originally planned launch. Canada Jetlines officially started to sell tickets today for their first flights. The newest airline in Canada will initially fly from Toronto to Winnipeg and Moncton. Both of these routes are set to launch on August 15. The leisure carrier eventually plans on serving vacation destinations in the U.S., Mexico and Caribbean. Click here to learn more.

Looks like we might have a challenger to the famous StayVancouver promotions that awards Amex gift cards for each night you stay at hotels booked through them. While we have seen many tourism boards provide gift card/prepaid card offers most of them outside of the StayVancouver offer are limited to one card regardless of how many nights you stay. Well it looks like Tourism Kingston wants to challenge StayVancouver as their latest incentive provides a $100 Visa Gift PER NIGHT not per stay when you book at least 2 nights and they award it for up to 5 nights for $500 in total gift cards.

We have a Rewards Canada update for the Platinum Card from American Express. It can now get you elite status with ten hotel reward programs, one airline and one cruise program! As we have detailed previously in our blog post of the same title - we learned via the UK's Head for Points that the Shangri-La Hotels Golden Circle Jade Elite Membership which is provided by the Platinum Card is matched to Gold Status in the Taj Hotels Inner Circle program! Canada Jetlines, the next up and coming Canadian Ultra Low Cost Carrier announced they have reached agreements with Kelowna and Winnipeg airports. The airline which hasn't left the ground yet also has agreements with several other Canadian airports as well as some in Mexico and the Domincan. (Source Canada Jetlines)

Canada Jetlines, one of three known Ultra Low Cost Carriers looking to tackle the Canadian market has had a couple of announcements over the past few days with the latest being today's news about the first routes they plan out of Hamiltion and Waterloo for next summer that should start around June or July. They also posted planned routes that should launch later in 2018 and 2019.

Last week they announced they signed a letter of intent for two Boeing 737-800NG aircraft. Looks like this airline is getting closer to a true launch. Still waiting in the wings are WestJet's ULCC and Enerjet's planned ULCC called FlyToo. Add into the mix Flair Airlines (nee Newleaf) and you have four airlines who are going to try to go after the really low fare market. Of course Air Canada and possibly WestJet won't take it. The good news is that we should see some lower fares across the board for a few years however it is highly unlikely all four airlines will survive, that is if they all get off the ground. Most ULCC airlines they don't have their own frequent flyer programs and chances are these ones will not so you can always take advantage of proprietary credit card programs to earn and burn points on these flights.
