The AIR MILES card linked offers for Save-On-Foods and affiliated grocery stores in Western Canada have now been revealed - you can earn 100 bonus miles when you spend $100 or more at these stores. After the big summer bonuses ended earlier this week American Express has shifted gears with their next acquisition campaign and are looking to existing cardmembers to do some pumping for them. You may ask how are the planning to do that? Simple reward the existing cardmembers with more points. American Express is offering existing Cardmembers Double Points for each approved referral between September 21st and October 26th, 2022
RBC Royal Bank launched two new credit cards this past week, the RBC ION Visa and RBC ION+ Visa cards. These two cards will replace the Rewards+ and Signature Visa cards and feature changes to earn rates, redemption rates and benefits. The naming of these cards falls inline with RBC's move of rebranding their RBC Rewards program to Avion Rewards.
StayVancouverHotels has brought back their gift card offer for the fall. You may remember them as BeVancouver previously and that they also used to offer Amex gift cards and then it switched to Visa Gift Cards, then Mastercard gift cards and and the latter is what we have this time.

Another really good seat sale to let you know about. This time it is from TAP Air Portugal. Today they launched a worldwide promotion that also includes their flights from Toronto and Montreal. Economy Class tickets to Lisbon from Toronto are coming in under $450 for the most basic fare but what is really noteworthy are the business class fares running in the $1500s for round trip flights!

WestJet recently announced the return of flights between Calgary and Amsterdam for the winter season and they have some great pricing on the route. The airline was awarded more slots at the Dutch airport so flights will return on November 14 and operate 3x weekly with their Boeing 787 Dreamliner featuring their international business and premium economy class cabins. Hopefully the mess we've all heard about at AMS during the summer travel season is fixed by the time these flights start operating again!
Fiji Airways will be launching their Vancouver flights on November 25 and you can earn double Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles to celebrate. Announced this past July, Vancouver is Fiji Airways third North American gateway city after Los Angeles and San Francisco. The airline is partnered with Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan hence this bonus being put into action with them as I figure not a lot of those who will be flying with Fiji Airways out of North America are members of the airline's own Tabua Club.
RBC Royal Bank has completed the re-branding of their RBC Rewards program to Avion Rewards. First announced in July and launched this past weekend, the new Avion Rewards site is up and running with all the relevant details for the updated program.
Here's an interesting development in the ongoing saga of AIR MILES and grocery partners. As most of you should already know, AIR MILES and the Empire Group of stores such as Sobeys and Safeway are parting ways. Atlantic Canada was first and the Western Canada sees them switch to Scene+ on September 22. But that's not all that will happen on September 22. Coincidentally, on that date AIR MILES will be launching card linked offers for grocery shopping at Save-On-Foods.

If you are planning on travel to or from the Yukon check out Air North's Aurora Flight Passes. These passes include four one-way flight segments for as little as $1027 all in for use between Whitehorse and Vancouver (in either direction) and can be used by two people. Essentially one pass will net you a round trip flight for two or two round trips for a single traveler. You can also use the passes for other cities Air North flies to but you have to pay an extra fee of $61.25 (tax incl) per segment. American Express' bonus for transferring Membership Rewards points to Marriott Bonvoy & Hilton Honors has returned! Cathay Pacific has brought back a bonus for converting credit card points to their Asia Miles. The bonus is 10% if you convert to a total of less than 30,000 miles. If you convert for 30,000 or miles you'll receive a 15% bonus. For those of us in Canada you can receive this bonus on transfers from American Express Membership Rewards, HSBC Rewards and RBC Avion Rewards. WestJet Rewards has come out with a great new status match offer and challenge to keep that status. Elite members from Air Canada Aeroplan, Porter Airlines VIPorter & British Airways Executive Club can receive automatic matched status in WestJet Rewards until December 15, 2022. Then, to keep the status for 2023 you simply need to reach 20% of the regular required tier spend for the tier level you are matched to.

You'll want to check your email or your American Express account to see if you have been selected for a limited time increased Use Points for Purchases redemption rate. Depending on which card you have you might get a 20% or 50% increase in value. For example targeted Platinum Cardmembers are getting an offer for $15 per 1,000 points redeemed and Cobalt Cardmembers are receiving $12 for 1,000 points. Both cards standard Use Points for Purchases redemption rate is 1,000 points for a $10 credit. If you are targeted for this offer you'll want to seriously consider redeeming right now if you happen to be someone who doesn't convert points to Amex's travel partners nor use Amex's Fixed Points for Travel option where you can extract more value than the 1.2 or 1.5 cents per point with this promotion. (BTW I was not targeted on any of my cards and found this offer posted on Reddit)
The best ever bonus seen on the RBC Avion Visa Infinite card is set to end in only one week. Available until September 16, the bonus of up to 55,000 RBC Rewards points is one of the easiest to achieve in the market right now. There is the possibility RBC may extend the offer but typically they would have advised us by now (although that hasn't always been the case) and the likelihood of an even better offer coming to the card is slim to none. Thus if you have been considering this card you may want to apply for it in the next seven days.
Air Canada has brought back a limited time offer where you can earn
extra Aeroplan points for buying Air Canada gift cards. The offer is
available until September 14th and will award 1 point/$ spent on gift cards
up to $750 and 3 points/$ if you spend over $750. Do note these don't
code as Air Canada purchases on your credit card as they are processed
by Buyatab so you won't earn extra points on the Aeroplan suite of
co-brand credit cards or any credit card that has a travel accelerator.

A few weeks ago we let you know that Merdian Credit Union stopped accepting applications for their cards. The credit union stated they were going to change providers and update their cards for the fall. Meridian has new revealed some of the details of their new cards which should be available in October. The biggest change is that they will now be issuing the cards themselves rather than with Collabria (as many credit unions do).
It also looks like they are taking page from some other banks' playbooks with their marketing/rewards tactics as they state "There will be a small change in the points earn rate structure, with no real impact for the Meridian Visa Cash Back Card and the Meridian Visa Infinite* Travel Rewards Card." and yet there is an impact. Here are the earn rates for the two cards they have revealed the details for:
During the month of September if you donate to the Canadian Red Cross you will earn Aeroplan points for doing so. Members will earn 100 points for every $5 donated and if you donate $100 or more you'll also be entered for a chance to win one of two 250,000 Aeroplan points prizes. This offer runs until Sep 30. 22. Note that you will not receive a tax receipt for donations that earn Aeroplan points.

We completed another Ultimate Portfolio update and this is one timely with everyone going back to University and College for it is The Ultimate Student Credit Card portfolio! Best Western launched a new bonus today that rewards 5,000 points when you redeem 12,000 or more points for a reward night stay. The offer is valid for reward stays in Canada, the U.S. and Caribbean that are completed between September 12 and November 21, 2022. Registration is required for this offer. Many hotels in Canada can be booked in the 12,000 to 24,000 point range so depending on which hotel you redeem for this can represent a pretty big discount.

TD has released their fall offers for their Aeroplan co-brand cards. For the most part these are the same offers we have seen in place for the majority of 2022. The only change is an increase in the spend and time requirement on the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Visa card. The other two cards, the Visa Infinite and Visa Platinum cards continue on with their exact same offers.
Hilton Honors’ Fall promotion is now live and it offers double points all stays Worldwide. On top of the double points, if you check out on a weekday (Mon-Fri) you’ll earn an additional 2,000 bonus points. With no limit to the number of bonus points you can earn this is a perfect hotel hopping promotion to move around hotels during the middle of week! If you have a three day business trip from Monday to Wednesday and your time allows you to alternate Hilton Hotels for each night you could earn the double points plus 6,000 points for those three nights.
