Award Availability Alert: Montreal to Paris round trip business class for only 106K to 112K American Express Membership Rewards points

At the beginning of the month we brought you the details of the latest Air France KLM Flying Blue promo rewards which included economy class flights between Montreal and Europe. Turns out that even though they have only listed it as 'Economy' on the Promo Rewards page they are also offering discounted business class tickets! A few U.S. blogs noticed this over the past week or so for U.S. departures (I believe Frequent Miler may have been first?) and I have been meaning to check it out for Montreal. And sure enough there are some days that you can book for 39,750 miles each way in Business Class.

The Ultimate No Fee Aeroplan Credit Card Portfolio!

Hot on the heels of our Clash of the Credit Cards where two no annual fee cards that offer Aeroplan points went head to head we figured it would be perfect timing to also put together the Ultimate No Annual Fee Aeroplan Credit Card portfolio. In this feature of Rewards Canada' Ultimate Credit Card Portfolios we look at the ultimate one for earning Aeroplan points all with cards that don't charge any annual fees. Since we launched Rewards Canada back in 2001 we have always recommended that you should carry a Visa, a Mastercard and an American Express card in your wallet and that's what these Ultimate portfolios encompass. The reason why is that there are benefits, promotions and earning potential unique to each brand of credit card. We won't go into detail here as you can read all about it in our feature on how to Maximize your Miles and Points but in this feature we outline one card from each brand that will help you build up those Aeroplan points without having to worry about paying any annual fees. Typically in these portfolios there are various options that could be utilized however when it comes to no annual fee cards that you can earn Aeroplan points with, there are only three in total and each single one just happens to be from each of the individual issuers. You can also find this feature on the main Rewards Canada website

The best credit card in Canada doesn't just beat the competition - it destroys them now

With this week's multiple news events from American Express we got to say that the issuer is attacking the Canadian credit card market from all angles again. If any card company has it in them to make cards more rewarding it's American Express and they showed it by flexing their muscles this week. While the two pieces of news cover a wide gamut of American Express cards that makes all of them better, they really make Canada's Top Travel Rewards Credit Card stand out even more. That card is the American Express Cobalt™ Card - it has already been the best travel card since 2017 and it just got even better this week. The first piece of news was American Express enhancing their Use Points for Purchases redemption rate (essentially cash back) making this card one of if not the best cash back cards in Canada and then revealing their next limited time conversion bonus to their hotel partners.

When earning 5x points isn't the same as earning 5x points - a loyalty lesson

BMO's ad on Twitter

Taking a page right out of TD's playbook we see BMO come out with an advertising campaign for their new BMO eclipse Visa Infinite* Card. The campaign that I saw on Twitter highlights the card's 5x points earn rate and the card's welcome bonus but nothing else. It is ads like these that irk me as they don't tell the whole story. Technically speaking there is absolutely nothing wrong with them nor are they advertising anything falsely. In fact many banks and credit card issuers do it. For me it brings back memories of when I heard that radio ad for Canada's first ever 100,000 point credit card welcome bonus on the ATB Gold My Rewards Travel Card back in 2013. The radio ad made it seem like or should I say implied those 100,000 points were huge and provided amazing value when in fact they were only worth $100. Other cards at that time were only offering 15,000 to 25,000 points but those were worth way more than that $100 but ATB's hope was that people didn't realize that.

Up to a 15% bonus when you convert points from American Express, HSBC or RBC to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles

Back on December 17th we gave you a heads up about the annual Cathay Pacific Asia Miles conversion bonus from their financial partners. That offer is now live and you can register for it right away. The bonus ranges from 10% to 15% depending on the member and is for conversion from credit card partners that allow you to transfer points to Asia Miles. It is not for cards that actually earn Asia Miles like the RBC Cathay Pacific Visa Platinum Card.
