As of today Air Canada Aeroplan members are able to earn and redeem Aeroplan points on Mexico's Aeromar. I believe this is to be the 11th new airline Aeroplan has added to their partner roster since June of 2020 (I've kind of lost count now) and 48th airline partner overall. Aeromar is one of Mexico's largest regional airlines serving over 20 cities in Mexico, Texas and Cuba.
Earning Aeroplan Points on Aeromar
Aeroplan members will earn points based on the distance flown on all scheduled Aeromar flights. Like many of Aeroplan's non Star Alliance partners there is no elite status earning from Aeromar flights, strictly redeemable points. Here are the earn rates:
Class of service | Eligible booking classes | Aeroplan points
Economy Full | Y, B, M, S, Q, N | 100%
Economy | K, W, Z, T, H, G | 75%
Economy Discount | F, P, L, A, E, I, R, V | 50% |
Like most of Aeroplan's partner airlines that you can earn points on the
earn rate varies based on the fare class you buy. Aeromar only offers economy class seating on their flights and you'll earn 50% on the
cheapest economy class to 100% for full fare economy class. That
percentage is then multiplied by the miles flown to determine how many
points you actually earn.
Most likely you'd be purchasing your Aeromar flight with a
connecting flight on Air Canada which means you could purchase it on AirCanada.com and earn your accelerated earn rate from cards like the American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card (3 points/$ with Air Canada) or the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card (2 points/$ with Air Canada)
Redeeming Points on Aeromar
- Flights will be priced based on Aeroplan’s pricing for partner airlines

- Aeromar flights can be combined with flights operated by Air Canada and other Aeroplan international airline partners.
- Aeromar flights are eligible for redemption in Economy classes.
- The partner booking fee will apply for flight rewards which include travel on Air Mauritius.
Wrapping it up
Air Canada, well more specifically, Aeroplan is continuing to live up to its claim of being the most internationally connected frequent flyer program in North America. No other program has so many airline partners to choose from to earn and redeem on. Yes, many of them are niche carriers that most Aeroplan members will never set foot on but they are perfect for the small percentage who are looking to fly with airlines that may not be considered the norm. Being able to earn and redeem on an airline like Aeromar will for some, make it more attractive to choose Aeroplan and Air Canada to connect to over 25 cities in Mexico.
Oh and one more thing - Aeroplan left a teaser at the bottom of their email to us: "We look forward to sharing details of additional airline partners in the months ahead" so I wouldn't be surprised if Aeroplan hits 50 airline partners this year.
