New best ever welcome offer of up to 200,000 PC Optimum points on PC Financial Credit Cards

Another day another best ever welcome bonus offer. This time PC Financial has come out the highest ever bonus offers on their suite of Mastercards. To be the best of our knowledge we have never seen them offer up to 200,000 points before. This is also the first time we've ever seen a 200,000 point welcome bonus in Canada, numerically speaking that is, value wise however that 200,000 is only worth $200. Still for no fee cards that are very popular with Loblaw shoppers this is a great new bonus offer.

Here's your Rewards Canada Daily update! Your daily dose (or near daily dose) of loyalty program, credit card and travel news, bonuses, deals and more.

Several of our readers pointed out that the promo code Air Canada revealed last week as part of the TD Aeroplan card 10x points offer was not working. March 8 Update: PC Financial downgrading World Elite Mastercard cardholders who didn't hit the $15,000 annual spend requirement & 8 new bonus offers

Here's your Rewards Canada Daily update! Your daily dose (or near daily dose) of loyalty program, credit card and travel news, bonuses, deals and more.

Long time Rewards Canada reader Harry B. reached out to us last week to let us know he received a letter from PC Financial that he didn't meet the required spend of $15,000 per year to keep his PC Financial World Elite Mastercard and that they would downgrade him to the World Version. A quick search sees this also popping up on Twitter and Redflagdeals as more PC Optimum cardholders received the letter as well. What we have happening hear is that Mastercard Canada put in place this $15,000 minimum spend threshold on World Elite cards that have no annual fee about a year or so ago. By having people spend at least $15,000 per year Mastercard can cover some of the costs associated with a World Elite card's benefits through the interchange fee rather than an annual fee on a card. This is why you don't actually see a minimum spend requirement on any World Elite Cards that do charge an annual fee as they can't downgrade you for a product you are paying for. Our biggest gripe that we have here at Rewards Canada from our readers and seeing what people have said on Twitter and RFD is that they received no notice from PC Financial that this requirement was instituted and some would have shifted their spending. I know even here at Rewards Canada we may have touched upon it once quite awhile ago but for the most part it is buried in the T&C's so it out of sight out of mind. Let us know in the comments section below if you also got the letter from PC Financial or even one of the other issuers!

PC Financial World Elite Mastercard Review

The President's Choice Financial World Elite Mastercard is the flagship card for the PC Optimum program which is the loyalty program for the Loblaw family of stores that include Loblaw, Real Canadian Superstore and Shoppers Drug Mart to name the least.
PC Financial is the banking branch of the Loblaw group of companies and they offer three different credit cards, all of which are unique in that they all don't have an annual fee attached to them.

New welcome offer of 100,000 PC Optimum points on PC Financial Credit Cards

Another 100K credit card offer to let you know about! Thanks to Rewards Canada reader Cheryl T. for alerting us to the return of the 100,000 point offer on the PC Financial Mastercards. The last offer just came to a close at the end of August and this one launched on September 5 - so they didn't wait too long to bring it back.

The offer is good for any one of the three cards in their portfolio:

  • PC Financial Mastercard
  • PC Financial World Mastercard
  • PC Financial World Elite Mastercard

To receive the bonus you need to apply via this link and then make a single purchase in store or online at a Shoppers Drug Mart, Wellwise, or participating Loblaw banner store within 6 months of being approved for the card.

Those 100,000 points once you receive them are worth $100 towards purchases made any participating PC Optimum stores like Loblaw banner stores (Loblaw, Real Canadian Superstore etc.) Shoppers Drug Mart and so on.

The World Elite version of these cards is a strong point earner for purchases made at locations where you earn PC Optimum points but purchases made outside of that see an earn rate that is pretty average at only 1%. The same goes for the lower two versions of the cards - they aren't the strongest in the earn categories.  Both the World and World Elite cards avail of overall Mastercard Canada benefits like Mastercard Airport Experiences, free Boingo WiFi and an offer from Ritual. (Learn more here)

This offer is available for new applications made by October 2

With the return of this offer this means there are two 100,000 point offers available to Canadians and you may wonder how do they compare? Well we already mentioned this is one is worth $100 and the other offer is for the HSBC World Elite Mastercard. That latter card's 100,000 point welcome bonus is worth $500 towards any travel or $300 in cash back rewards or even $800 or more if you convert to points to one of the card's airline partners. And considering the HSBC card is rebating the annual fee in the first year you can see there really isn't a comparison between these two 100K offers. The HSBC card wins hands down - even if you go with the cash back option! The main thing to note however is that you have to spend $5,000 on the HSBC card in 6 months rather than just one purchase with the PC Financial card.
