IHG One Rewards, the revamped program from IHG Hotels & Resorts took another step today in the evolution of the program as the new Elite Status Benefits and Milestone Rewards went live today. The elite status benefits include early check in /late checkout, hot breakfast for Diamond members and room upgrades. All the benefits are subject to availability. The Milestone Rewards are the additional rewards offered for completing stays with the brand during a calendar year. Rewards kick in once you complete 20 nights and then you get to pick more every 10 nights after that up to 100 nights per year. The rewards include confirmed suite upgrades, bonus points and food & beverage creditds. Simply log in to your IHG One Rewards account to see your progress and select your rewards.

Scene+ scores big at the expense of AIR MILES - watch for grocery earning and redeeming to come soon to the program!

In a very unexpected move, news came out today that Empire Company Limited, the parent corporation of Sobeys, Safeway, FreshCo, IGA and numerous other grocery and drug stores has become a co-owner in the Scene+ program. This will mark the end of the grocery empire's involvement with the AIR MILES program. AIR MILES has counted Safeway and Eastern Canadian Sobeys stores as decades long partners and gained western Canadian stores which were aligned with Aeroplan after the Safeway takeover. Empire has now counted three major Canadian loyalty programs as partners! Over the coming months these stores that have currently been part of the AIR MILES program will move over to Scene+ starting no less than in the company's own backyard, Atlantic Canada.

This is not a 'best' credit card list like our Top Travel Rewards Credit Card rankings but instead a look at cards for small businesses that have very good acquisition (welcome/sign up) offers. As always when choosing a card you should always take other factors into account other than the just sign up bonus, but when some of these cards are first year free, they can and do pay off even when you grab them strictly for the sign up rewards. Hilton has once again brought out a bonus for buying Honors points. This time the bonus varies by members, I personally received an offer for an 80% bonus however others are receiving 100%. Also the promotion this time does see the doubling of the annual cap on buying points so you can buy up to 160,000 points. That 160,000 cap does not include the bonus points so if you max out this offer and buy 160,000 points you’ll receive 320,000 into your account.
