Flair Airlines will be switching their Los Angeles area flights from Hollywood Burbank to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX The airline's flights from Vanouver and Edmonton will switch on October 31. The airline will also be adding a new 2 times per week flight between Toronto and Cancun for the upcoming winter season. (Source Flair Airlines)

The new route announcements from Flair Airlines seem to be never ending! In their latest news release from today the Ultra Low Cost Carrier is further expanding their U.S. routes by setting up a winter base in Tucson. The Arizona city will be served from five Canadian cities: Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Lethbridge, Prince George, and Windsor. Yes, you read that right, outside of their home base in Edmonton the airline is setting up cities like Lethbridge and Prince George which rarely ever see Transborder service! 

February 28 Update: Aeroplan extends flight reward change fee waiver, Canadian North adding Toronto-Iqaluit route & Flair Airlines adds more flights to Kitchener-Waterloo

Aeroplan has further extended their waiving of all change fees on Aeroplan flight rewards through to March 31, 2022. As of April 1st bookings made by March 31 will be able to be changed once with no fee while bookings that are made from April 1st will return to the standard policy based on the fare option purchased. Flair Airlines offering a 100% discount on their base fares for travel in February (Must book by Jan 27)

 
Thanks to Davidd418 for alerting us to this pretty awesome seat sale from Flair Airlines. Their Free Base Fare in February sale is just that - the base fare is free, you simply pay the taxes and fees (and any add ons like baggage). The sale is good for any Flair destinations and the flights must be booked by January 27 (or while seats last) for travel in February. As David pointed out to us there are some flights that are available for as little as $14 round trip.

It seems that we are now seeing new route announcements from Flair Airlines every few weeks! The latest sees the Ultra Low Cost Carrier further expanding in the U.S. and adding more routes within Canada. The latest cities being added to Flair's route map include Denver, Nashville and San Francisco in the U.S. as well as Comox on Vancouver Island.

Four credit cards that can make flying with Flair Airlines even cheaper!

Flair Airlines has been making a big return to flying and even expanding as we slowly emerge from the pandemic. Touted as Canada's only independent Ultra Low Cost Carrier, Flair Airlines offers rock bottom prices on flights within Canada and shortly to the U.S.. Those rock bottom prices are for bare bones tickets - no carry on bags, no check bags, no seat selection and so on. Basically outside of the base ticket price you can pick and choose what services you want for your flights and pay for those accordingly. So while the base fares are cheaper than the competition once you start adding the extras the price can creep up to being equivalent to what Air Canada and WestJet are charging. So how can you save yourself some money - either just on the insanely cheap base fares or even those fares that include add ons? By utilizing a credit card that has high points earning value that can be redeemed for Flair purchases and cards that provide credits for additional fees charged by airlines.

March 31 Update: Last day to score 450 WestJet dollars on the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard & Flair Airlines announces new service to Montreal

Today is the last day to get in on the best ever offer for the WestJet RBC World Mastercard. The offer sees a limited time $0 companion voucher and up to 450 WestJet dollars. After today the $0 companion voucher will remain on offer until May but the bonus dollars will drop. We still don't know what it will drop to exactly but have double confirmation from WestJet that it won't be 450. Do note that to get the 450 WestJet dollars you do have to be able to spend $5,000 on the card in the first three months of having it. If you know you can't spend $5K in three months then wait until the next offer comes out but if you can meet that spend then you should probably apply for the card today. By now you should be very familiar with Fairmont's Stay Close offer as we've had probably close to half a dozen posts about the offer but wanted to pass along news that the booking window for the first four hotels to have the offer has been extended to June 22. Originally if you wanted to book the at the Fairmont Banff Springs, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louiseand Fairmont Chateau Whistler. you had only until today (June 15) to get in on the offer. Hotel occupancy rates in Canada climbed slightly for the week of June 2 to the 8 to 22.2%, the previous week was 21.4% however this is still down from 70.4% from the same period last year. Source HNN

February 6 Update: Flair Airlines offering unlimited flights for 90 days and Air Canada now accepts PayPal

Making the news over the past 24 hours is Edmonton based Ultra Low Cost Carrier Flair Airlines. Why? Simply from their umlimited travel pass promotion. Called the 'Go Travel Pass' the new flight pass from Flair Airlines offers unlimited travel to anywhere they fly for 90 days. There are two options, the low cost option for $499+taxes and fees where you still have pay for add ons and luggage, have black out dates and can't fly on Friday or Saturdays. The more expensive pass option at $699+taxes and fees includes 1 checked bag (add ons are still extra) no black out dates and you can fly on Fridays and Saturdays:

The passes are good for flights between February 13 and May 13 and there are no extensions beyond those dates. What the promotion doesn't state is an end date to actually purchasing a pass.

This reminds me of when Air Canada had an unlimited North America flight pass back in 2005 and one well known FlyerTalker from B.C. took advantage of it to fly almost every day for a month as those flights earned Aeroplan miles and he collected over 1 million of them during that month! Air Canada has introduced a new payment option for customers by enabling them to use PayPal when purchasing tickets online at aircanada.com in Canada. The popular online payment system offers a secure and convenient means to buy tickets, with customers able to pay for their flights with their preferred payment method – bank account, credit cards or Visa Debit card – linked to their PayPal account.

"Air Canada's strategy is to continually provide customers the opportunity to make their purchase using their preferred method of payment. We are therefore pleased to announce our agreement with PayPal, the popular online payment system that is secure, fast and convenient to use. Having now made PayPal available for ticket sales in Canada, we will look to expand the program to other markets as opportunities arise," said Keith Wallis, Senior Director, Payments and Distribution, at Air Canada.

February 22 Update: Flair Airlines ending some U.S. routes early, IHG Rewards Club to test variable award pricing, Up to 30% off Jet Airways flights from Toronto

 

Flair Airlines is cutting service to Miami and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (near Tampa Bay) in Florida, and Palm Springs, California earlier than planned. The airline will contact you if you are booked on any of these flights. (Source Global News)

 

IHG Rewards Club is going to be testing out dynamic or variable award pricing for their free hotel award nights. Now common place among many loyalty programs, we here in Canada are most accustomed to Aeroplan's Market Fare Rewards where the amount of miles you need will depend on the price of the flight. However we don't know what they mean exactly by variable pricing. Will it be tied to price or will it be fixed variable like Marriott Bonvoy with Peak, Standard and Off-Peak pricing. We also don't know is how big this test will be as in if it will be across the board or only at select hotels. (Source IHG) HT Head for Points
