CIBC will become the new issuer of Costco Mastercards

American Express weren't the only ones wanting to release big credit card news today as only a few short hours later CIBC issued a press release with news a lot of people have been waiting for. The bank announced this morning that they will become the exclusive issuer of Costco Mastercards in Canada. The long term agreement is expected to start early in 2022.

The revamped American Express Gold Rewards Card details are revealed!

Back in May we had a post in our series on Canadian cards due for an overhaul that covered the American Express Gold Rewards card. At that time we had no knowledge of the changes that would happen to the Cobalt Card only a few short months later and heralded the fact the Gold Rewards Card was still one of the best in Canada. We actually put our opinion out there that the card was only due for a tweaking not an overhaul. However with the changes to the American Express Cobalt Card it pretty much made the Gold Rewards Card in its present form obsolete. There was speculation, even on our part based on emails we had received that the Gold Rewards card was going to be discontinued but that was quickly corrected that the card was only being paused for a revamp.

The 450 bonus WestJet dollars are awarded when you spend $5,000 in the first three months and is available on new applications made until January 5, 2022. The $0 companion fare voucher is currently available for applications made until December 5, 2021 but may be extended if we see TD extend the Buddy Pass offers on their Aeroplan cards past that date.

The WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard will now earn elite qualifying spend with Status Lift

Years ago when it was announced that Air Canada was going to split from Aeroplan and create their own loyalty program we predicted that the winners would be the consumers and in particular those utilizing credit cards. Fast forward to the present and while Air Canada didn't technically launch a new program since the bought back Aeroplan and revamped it, it was that revamping that helped our prediction come true. This year so far has been one of the best ever in terms of new credit card offers and credit card enhancements that are benefiting the consumer. That leads us into this post where WestJet and RBC have now added a new permanent benefit on the WestJet RBC World Mastercard that takes aim at the new Aeroplan co-brand cards. Not only does the card have a new benefit but as of September 1st we see the return of the 450 WestJet Dollar + $0 companion fare welcome bonus on the card! Read more about the new welcome offer here.
