January 5 Update: Correction to the card that has the best earn rate at gas stations and shop online today with Shoppers to earn 50,000 bonus PC Optimum points

Have to correct something that I have been wrong about for the past year and a couple of months. Late in 2020 when BMO revealed their new BMO Eclipse Visa Infinite and Infinite Privilege cards I stated that these card's 5x points earn rate on gas and transit purchases (which equate to a 3.33% return for travel redemptions) are the best in Canada. That holds true for transit but not gas and that's where I was wrong. As I seem to mention often, there is one card in Canada that tends to be forgotten and that card is the Scotiabank Platinum American Express Card.

It's nice to see Scotia bring back this offer seeing how most of this card's competitors have a had an increased welcome bonus consistently in place. When you apply for and are approved for the Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite Card you'll receive 10% cash back on all purchases up to $200 cash back in the first three months ($2,000 in spending) Not only that but they will waive the first year annual fee of $120 on the primary card and if you grab supplementary cards they'll waive the $50 fee on those as well.

Lots of new member acquisition offers seem to be hitting the market. Earlier today in Rewards Canada's Daily Update post we brought you details on new members offers from Emirates Skywards and Radisson Rewards. Here's one more and it's for a more popular program here in Canada, Hilton Honors. It's not actually a new offer rather an extension of an offer that came out in 2020 and was originally set to end on December 31.
