Have to correct something that I have been wrong about for the past year and a couple of months. Late in 2020 when BMO revealed their new BMO Eclipse Visa Infinite and Infinite Privilege cards I stated that these card's 5x points earn rate on gas and transit purchases (which equate to a 3.33% return for travel redemptions) are the best in Canada. That holds true for transit but not gas and that's where I was wrong. As I seem to mention often, there is one card in Canada that tends to be forgotten and that card is the Scotiabank Platinum American Express Card.
The Scotiabank Platinum Amex is in fact the card that is best in Canada for gas station purchases. It earns 4 points per dollar which equates to a 4% return when redeeming for any travel via any provider. I apologize for missing that so long ago and not catching it sooner. It also further confirms our decision to replace the BMO Visa Infinite Privilege Card with this Scotia Platinum Amex as the 5th best Ultra Premium Card in Canada. Do note this best earn rate is only looking at the cash back return for travel - if we wanted to get technical some of the best earn rates for gas station purchases would be the Amex Cobalt and Gold Rewards cards as their 2 points per dollar can provide value well above 4% when converting to Aeroplan, British Airways, Marriott etc.

And going back to Scotia, they had a bunch of updates to their card offers today.
