British Airways Executive Club – 50% to 75% Bonus when you buy or gift Avios

A few days ago British Airways launched yet another buy Avios bonus. Once again for most members it is a 50% bonus - which is decent in its own right and has been a good option for building your Avios balance up in the past. However in today's market and uncertainty in future travel it may not make any sense to buy Avios now seeing that the 50% bonus makes its way to market several times per year. That being said there is also a 75% bonus for buying Avios that is for BAEC members who hold a British Airways co-branded credit card. We know the bonus is there for both U.K. and U.S. cardholders and are assuming it is the same for Canada but aren't 100% sure. Perhaps one of our readers who does have the RBC British Airways Visa could let us know if the 75% bonus offer shows up for them! If you do get the 75% bonus you may still not want to buy Avios but it is definitely more enticing!

Offer details:
Up to 75% Bonus Avios when you buy or gift Avios. Buy Avios here. Until May 18, 20
Bonus varies by member
50% bonus for non-BA credit card holders
75% bonus BA credit card holders

Top 5 Credit Card Sign Up offers for May - These cards provide some of the best value out of their welcome bonuses

Here are the Rewards Canada Top 5 Credit Card Sign Up offers for the month of May 2020! This is not a 'best' credit card list like our Top Travel Rewards Credit Card rankings but instead a look at cards that have very good acquisition (welcome/sign up) offers. As always when choosing a card you should always take other factors into account other than the just sign up bonus, but when some of these cards are first year free, they can and do pay off even when you grab them strictly for the sign up rewards. This month we see two first year free cards on the list!

The big change this month is the Platinum Card from American Express making the list for the very first time and in a big way jumps to the number one spot on the list. It's bonus is 60,000 points and it does have a $699 annual fee however until late July it has double the redemption value of those points (1,000 points = $20) which means the first 50,000 points on the card are worth $1,000 plus the additional 10,000 points you get after 6 months are worth another $100 giving you $1,100 in value or a $401 gain above the $699 annual fee. The other change this month is the BMO AIR MILE World Elite Mastercard dropping off the list as it's welcome bonus decreased this month.

Editor's Note:
As travel is curtailed right now these offers are more forward looking and can and should be used towards your long term travel plans - whether that's later this year, next year or even beyond. Getting the cards now allows you to achieve the sign up bonuses as you wish and then continue to spend to build up those points and miles balances to make those future vacations that much better. - Or in the case of all the cards except the Alaska Airlines Mastercard you can also look at cash back or cash back equivalents like gift cards from each program if you are looking at short term financial help. If you are going for the latter focus on the cards that have no fee in the first year so that you can maximize your value.

Remember as well that you will find this list smack dab in the middle of the Rewards Canada homepage for easy reference!

Here are our top 5 credit card sign up offers for May (in order of welcome bonus value, calculated as minimum mile/points value minus annual fee)

The Number one card has changed as its offer was removed from market.

Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card - 50,000 Points (Apply here)
No changes to this card means it stays put on the list The 50,000 points, awarded after spending $1,500 on the card in three months are worth at least $500 in our minds which means after subtracting the annual fee you are coming out ahead by $380. In reality you can pull even more value out of the card (into four figures) as we outlined in our post A look at how The Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card provides huge value!  Don't forget you get an annual free night with the card as well on the card anniversary date!
Minimum Income: N/A

TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card - 30,000 Miles (Apply here)
This is the only first year free card on the list this month and if you are just starting out I would recommend getting this card first thanks to that annual fee waiver! The bonus is awarded as follows: 15,000 Aeroplan Miles when you make your first Purchase with your Card + 5,000 Aeroplan Miles when you spend $1,000 per month in the first three months (up to 15,000 miles) Depending on how you redeem those Aeroplan miles should be worth no less than $360 but more likely closer to $800 or more! In fact if you take the per mile value from our post from late July 2019 this welcome bonus would be worth $1,800 or more.
Minimum Income: $60,000 Personal or $100,000 Household

Alaska Airlines World Elite Mastercard - 30,000 Miles (Apply here)
This card offers a welcome bonus of 30,000 miles when you spend $1,000 on the card in the first three months of having it. This is one of the easiest bonuses to achieve and this card is one of the most churnable in Canada. There are really no problems in getting it 2-4 times in one year alone! Those 30,000 miles are worth no less than $330 when redeeming for economy class flights and just go up from there like the TD Aeroplan card.
Minimum Income: $80,000 Personal or $150,000 Household

HSBC World Elite Mastercard - 60,000 points (Apply here)
This card offers a welcome bonus of 60,000 points, split between 20,000 on first purchase and 40,000 more when you spend $6,000 within 180 days of getting the card. The annual fee of $149 is waived in the first year as well meaning these points come to you at no cost other than card spend. The card has a lot of other good benefits like no foreign transaction fees to consider as well! Those 60,000 points are worth $300 in travel rewards but those points can also be converted to British Airways Executive Club, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles or Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer.
Minimum Income: $80,000 personal or $150,000 household or $400,000 in assets at any Canadian Financial Institution

If you went for all these cards you ultimately could end up with anywhere from $1,700 to over $3,000 in travel value. However even if you only take on one or two you are helping your travel budget significantly at no cost other than regular credit card spend. We don't really recommend getting all five in one month unless you know you can meet the minimum spend for them all at once, rather you'd want to pick one or two right now, perhaps another next month and so on.

5 Bonus Aeroplan Miles per dollar via the Aeroplan eStore when paying with a CIBC or American Express Aeroplan co-branded card

In addition to the big news of Aeroplan launching their first buy miles bonus they announced in the email to us that until the end of May members who use their CIBC or American Express Aeroplan co-branded credit cards will earn an additional 5 miles per dollar spent. This is on top of the current Mother's Day bonus of up to 7x miles at select retailers.

Here is what Aeroplan provided to us:
Earn 5 extra miles per $1 spent for purchases via the Aeroplan eStore when using your CIBC® Aeroplan® Credit Card or American Express® AeroplanPlus® Card. These bonus miles are in addition to the miles a member would regularly earn for using their card at checkout.

This offer runs until May 31 and there is no set landing page for the credit card bonus or mention of it on the Travel at Home page or on the eStore but be sure this is straight from Aeroplan so the offer is valid. Just note as well that TD Aeroplan co-branded cards are not included in this offer.

 Visit the eStore here!

Get ready! Aeroplan's first buy miles promotion to offer up to a 115% bonus where you buy miles for as little as 1.4 cents - launches on May 7

Air Canada’s Aeroplan has been one of the most engaging and active programs during this pandemic we are in and they just continue to be at the forefront. They reached out to this morning to let us know about this amazing new offer that was supposed to happen back in March but of course was delayed because of the crisis.

At the start of March Aeroplan began selling miles full time - that is not at the time of redeeming for an award rather you could buy miles at any time without an award at anytime. Aeroplan was basically playing catch up here as most airline and hotel programs allowed their members to buy points or miles at anytime. Also the majority of the programs that sell their currencies run limited time offers of buying them with either bonus points or miles or discounts on the per mile price. We had hoped when Aeroplan launched the buy miles option back on March 24 that they would also provide bonus offers and we now know they will! And their first one is pretty darn amazing with a up to a 115% bonus when you buy miles starting on May 7th! Here's how the promotion from May 7 to the 13th will work:
Starting May 7 at 10:00 am ET until May 13 at 11:59 pm ET, Aeroplan members will be able to buy miles and receive bonus miles on their purchase:

* For the first 10 million Aeroplan Miles sold, members get a 115% bonus; equivalent to $0.014 CAD/mile + sales tax OR $0.01 USD/mile;
* The next 100 million miles sold, members get a bonus of 90%; equivalent to $0.016 CAD/mile + sales tax + $0.011 USD/mile;
* All miles sold after this will get a bonus of 65%; equivalent to $0.018 CAD/mile + sales tax OR + $0.013 USD/mile

If you have knowledge of buying miles and buy miles promotions you'll know right off the bat the first 10 millions miles at 0.014 cents CAD (1 cent USD) is truly one of the best buy miles offers ever. How so? For so many Aeroplan award flight options you can easily get 1.5 cents or more in value when redeeming for economy class flights and easily 2 to 7+ cents per mile when redeeming for business class or first class flights. Even at 1.8 cents per mile with the 65% bonus there is a lot of potential to be buying future premium class flights at a discount.

When you buy miles you can buy up to 250,000 miles in one transaction and you have a 500,000 mile limit per year to buy miles - and those numbers are before bonuses. So it is entirely possible that first 10 million miles that are sold could go to only 20 people and there will be a mad rush for them on May 7 at 10am ET. Personally I probably won't be buying any miles right now as we are sitting on well into seven figures of points and miles in Aeroplan and Aeroplan equivalents (ie Membership Rewards, Marriott etc.) but for many of you who are trying to plan for travel down the road and  are ready to buy some miles speculatively this is a promotion to seriously consider.

This promotion falls into Aeroplan's overarching campaign called Travel at Home which includes the current promotion where you can earn Altitude 25K Elite Status buy earning 50,000 Aeroplan Miles by May 31. It is noted by Aeroplan that when you buy miles 50% of them (including bonus) will count towards the Altitude promotion - so if you buy 50,000 miles at the onset you will also receive Altitude 25K status. It will take ~53,000 miles at 90% or ~61,000 miles to also reach the 25K status  . If you already have status you could also go the route of buying 250,000 miles or miles to get the special promotion of getting a one tier level boost up to Elite 75K.

It doesn't end there! Aeroplan with their partner Points.com will be matching a portion of the Aeroplan Miles purchased and donate them to The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)

If this promotion is for you be sure to set an alarm on your phone for a few minutes prior to 10am ET on May 7 to try to get in on the 115% bonus! You can access the Aeroplan buy miles page here - be sure to bookmark and have it ready!

We have to give kudos to Aeroplan - they have really chosen to stand out over the past few months and are the loyalty program that every other airline and hotel corporation should be watching and emulating.

Rexall Be Well launches today - earn 50,000 bonus points for purchases of $50 or more this weekend

Rexall's new loyalty program - Be Well officially launched today and to celebrate they are offering 50,000 bonus points when you spend $50 or more in store.  This also means that as of today you will no longer be able to earn or redeem AIR MILES at all Rexall locations.

We have mentioned Rexall's new program a couple of times already on Rewards Canada as they offered their pre-launch sign up bonus of 10,000 points for supplying your email address. Those points will be awarded by May 31 when you actually join the program using the same email address.

In those earlier posts we pointed out that the program isn't rewarding at all on the base level. You earn 10 points per dollar spent and then you can redeem 25,000 points for $10 off at the till. This means you have to spend $2,500 to get that $10 or a return of 0.4 cents.  For comparison when AIR MILES was  a partner that same $2,500 would net you 125 AIR MILES or about $13 in terms of cash rewards.

It doesn't surprise me that Rexall went this way - AIR MILES is a pricey proposition for any retailer and an influx of back end loyalty program developers & systems have made it quite affordable to run your own program nowadays. I am and am not surprised about the redemption value however. My surprise is the base value is less than what was offered with AIR MILES even though Rexall's cost per point should be lower but I'm also not surprised as the switch allowed them to set a rate that will see base points not eat into their margins. I also believe they went with the lower value as they plan on offering a lot of bonus points to boost your value as we already see with this weekend's launch event. It's a good marketing ploy - low initial value but provide more value to get you in store and buy enough stuff to hit that minimum spend to get the bonus points.

With Rexall no longer being an AIR MILES partner it continues to confirm what I have stated in lots of media interviews and here on the site that the golden age of coalition loyalty programs has now passed us. Canada's two largest coalition programs AIR MILES and Aeroplan have not had much success in adding any major nationwide non-travel retail partners for sometime now and I don't see that changing anytime soon. What we will see are more individual retailer programs and retail group programs, the latter being programs like Triangle and PC Optimum.

Here are the steps Rexall provided in their email on how to join the program:

Now live: New earn rates and easier redemption with the no fee BMO CashBack Mastercard

The new earning structure for the no fee BMO CashBack Mastercard have gone live today. We first let you know about the changes back on April 7 that see the card now offer 3% cash back on groceries (up to $500 spent per statement cycle), 1% cash back on recurring bill payments (also up to $500) and 0.5% back on all other purchases. Also kicking in today is an improved cash back redemption for the card as the minimum amount to redeem drops to $1 from $50.

Here is a more detailed recap of the changes:

Earning changes
Prior to today the card earned  1% cash back on all purchases made that has now changed to the following:
  • 3% cash back on eligible grocery purchases, up to a maximum of $500 spent for each statement cycle
  • 1% cash back on eligible recurring bill payments, up to a maximum of $500 spent for each statement cycle
  • 0.5% unlimited cash back on all other purchases
As you can see BMO has boosted the earning rate for grocery purchases to 3% with a cap of $500 spent for each statement cycle. That means you can earn $15 cash back each month for groceries, well you can earn more but that's how much you'll get at 3%, the remainder will be 0.5%. So if you spend $1,500 a month on groceries you would receive $20 in total cash back ($15+$5) with the new earning structure. Under the old structure it would have been $15. Outside of groceries the card has in fact become worse except for recurring bill payments but for everything else. So that is the key with this card - it is primarily good for grocery purchases on it. If you make lots of purchases that do not count as grocery you might be better off with a different card albeit most no fee cash back cards in Canada have similar earn rates - 0.5% for non-category bonus purchases and higher rates in select other categories. As you can see that BMO has made these changes to actually bring the card in line with many of its competitors.

Redeeming changes
The changes for cash back redemption have made this card more liquid - that is, it will become easier to redeem for your cash back. The current redemption model for the card requires you to achieve $50 in cash back to redeem for a one-time or recurring redemption. The new model that came into effect today allows you to redeem as little as $1 for a one-time redemption or $25 for automatic recurring redemptions. This move s the card up our list in Guide to Credit Card Cash Back Liquidity to the top with the Brim Mastercards.

Overall I would say the positive changes outweigh the negative changes with the card. Being able to redeem for $1 is great, the 3% return on groceries is great however the 0.5% on all other purchases gets a  👎

If you do choose to go for the card you can earn 5% back on all purchases in the first three months up to $100 cash back in total ($2,000 in spending) and you can take advantage of the 1.99% introductory rate on balance transfers.

Learn more about and apply for the BMO CashBack Mastercard here.

Below is the most current offer for the card. It may not reflect the discussion above.

Financially stable? Now's the time to rack up some of the best travel rewards points & miles

Since the start of the pandemic a lot of discussion on Rewards Canada has centered around using your loyalty reward programs to help you financially - that is to use the points or miles for cash back or cash equivalents. But what if you are healthy financially and don't need to be shifting your loyalty program strategy and want to stick with travel rewards? Well there is no better time than now to build up your points and miles for future travel thanks to the Platinum Card from American Express double points promotion. On April 21 American Express revealed that Platinum Card cardmembers (existing and new) will receive double points on all purchases until July 20. They will also receive double the redemption value when using points for purchases although we're not concerning ourselves with the latter for this post.

On a normal day the Platinum Card will earn 3 points per dollar spend on dining (restaurants, fast food, coffee shops), 2 points per dollar on travel and 1 point on everything else. Now with this promotion those amounts are doubled so we see 6 points per dollar on dining, 4 points per dollar on travel and 2 points on everything else. We have confirmation from American Express that the double points is for ALL Platinum cardmembers which means if you don't have the card and get it now you'll be able to partake in the offer. This means all cardmembers can really work on building up their points balance for future travel and get amazing value from those purchases thanks to the strength and versatility of American Express' Membership Rewards program. The program has numerous travel rewards options from Fixed Points for Travel, Use Points for Travel Purchases and converting points to their frequent travel partners like Aeroplan, British Airways and more. Thanks to the promotion all these redemption option have doubled in value.

Let's take a look at all these options:

Fixed Points for Travel
The Fixed Points Travel Program is a take on traditional reward flights from frequent flyer programs. That is, you use a set amount of points to travel within, or to, certain regions without typically worrying about the price.

Booking flights using fixed points can come handy, especially during peak seasons when market fares are quite high. Amex’s Fixed Points Travel Program doesn’t limit specific airlines you need to book with. You can literally fly any airline, any time to any destination!

This provides a lot more flexibility than your traditional reward program, where typically the biggest complaint is a lack of flight availability!

Here are the points grids from Amex’s Fixed Point Travel Program for both economy and business class flights:

Recommending Reading: Redemption Stories: Saving $3,800 on last minute flights with the Platinum Card from American Express

Looking at the chart and the maximum redemption value of tickets you'll see that you can earn up to a 2 cents per point value when redeeming points via this method. And if you take into account the current Platinum offer of double points where you earn 2 to 6 points per dollar spent your effective rate of return for booking flights via the Fixed Points for Travel program can be as high as 12%! This matches the current rate for Using Points for Purchases option that is awarding $20 for every 1,000 point redeemed. Think about it you only need to spend $2,500 on dining to get a popular route short haul flight. You can't do that with any other program right now and remember you don't need to redeem by July 20 - simply put all your spending on the Platinum Card until and then use the points when you wish - they never expire as long as you have an active Membership Rewards card (Hint you can get yourself the Gold Rewards Card in the future if you don't wish to keep the Platinum Card down the road) Another hint - if you are about maximizing value you'll want your base fare from the the ticket to push as close to the Maximum Fare listed in the chart or even go past as you can then redeem 1,000 points for every $10 over and above (including taxes and fees) or just pay cash for that difference.

Use Points for Purchases (Travel)
The travel option of  Use Points for Purchases is great for those looking for the utmost flexibility in using points for travel. You get to book the flights that are best for you, from the carrier you want, right from the airline’s website, a travel agent or any online travel portal. It even covers non-air travel, such as car rentals.

Book your hotel via the hotel's website, a cruise via a travel agent or even an all-inclusive vacation, and you can redeem your Membership Rewards points for it all.  All you have to do is charge the travel to your Platinum Card and when the charge shows up, redeem your points against it at a rate of 1,000 points for a $10 statement credit. This means if you are redeeming points earned during this double points promotion you are getting a 2% to 6% return. Here's the kicker and also a plan from one of our readers: Book future travel by early July so that you can take advantage of the other half of this promotion - the double redemption value. That means you can get a $20 statement credit for 1,000 points and pushes you to a  4 to 12% return on your spending.  Here is what Gary A. asked and may be planning:
Question about the 50K bonus points. Will they post to the account as soon as the $3K spend threshold is met, or will it wait until the 3 month mark is achieved? As of today April 24, we would be looking at 3 months (minus 4 days) before July 20. So if it posts after the three months I could never take advantage of the double redemption bonus.

For this to make sense for me, that 50K bonus points would need to get into the account BEFORE the 3 month mark. In my case, I have two big airline tickets for May 2021 flights that I would buy. If those cost me $7K and I was able to make that purchase say mid-June (fingers crossed they would be available for purchase by that point), the points for that purchase would be 4 pts / dollar (28k points) plus the 50K points, totaling 78000 pts which I redeem at 1000pt = $20 and I'd get $1560 off that purchase. With an additional $200 as travel credit, that's $1760 off the purchase for a $700 investment (annual fee). Net: $1060 in my pocket... Am I missing something or is that ridiculously good return?
Gary's numbers look right to me and hopefully it may help you get the wheels turning for your future travel plans.

The great thing with Membership Rewards is that you can continue to fund your trip with points even after it's over as American Express allows you to redeem for a charge up to 12 months after it gets posted to your account.

Frequent Travel Partners
Now on to another fun part! The section where you can really get some outsized value for earning double Membership Rewards points until late July. Membership Rewards points earned with the Platinum Card from American Express can be converted to six airline and two hotel programs. Those programs and their conversion ratios are:
  • Air Canada Aeroplan 1:1
  • British Airways Executive Club 1:1
  • Alitalia MilleMiglia 1:0.75
  • Cathay Pacific Asia Miles 1:0.75
  • Delta SkyMiles 1:0.75
  • Etihad Guest 1:0.75
  • Hilton Honors 1:1
  • Marriott Bonvoy 1:1.2
The bold emphasis is mine as those are the three best programs to convert to and what I provide more detail on.

Air Canada Aeroplan
You can convert the Membership Rewards points earned with the Platinum Card directly to Air Canada Aeroplan on a 1 to 1 basis and the conversion is typically instant although Amex states it can take up to 30 minutes. This is key to being one of the best conversion options of all for Canadians since you don't have to convert speculatively - you hold onto your points in Membership Rewards and while you are searching for and about to book an Aeroplan award flight you can convert the points at that time.

And the value for converting to Aeroplan can be huge. Firstly, as you are earning 2 to 6 points per dollar spent until July 20 you are effectively earning 2 to 6 Aeroplan Miles per dollar. This cannot be matched by any card in our market right now. We value Aeroplan Miles at 1.2 cents at the absolute minimum, which means your return on spending would run in the 2.4 to 7.2% range but I stress that is an absolute minimum. With Aeroplan you can easily push that return much higher, well into 2 to 3 cents per points for economy and well above 6 cents per points for business class and first class redemptions. In fact in some past random searches we have found business class award flights giving a value of 7.75 cents per mile. Take 6 points per dollar earned on the Platinum Card for dining, convert to Aeroplan at 1:1 for 6 miles per dollar and then a value of 7.75 cents per mile and you have a 46.5% return on that spending!! Yes I do make lots of typos in my posts but this one is not a typo - you can potentially get a 46.5% return on your dining spend! There is even the possibility to get even more than that if you find a higher value flight. I am just shy of 20 years of running Rewards Canada and never have I seen a potential return that high, in fact nothing ever has even come close to that!

Here is the 7.75 cents example we found last year:
How about doing a one-way in business class between Toronto and San Francisco - and there's a bonus - it is on Boeing 787-9 with lie flat seats:

This round trip flight is 25,000 miles + $123.69 in taxes and fees. To buy the flight outright with Air Canada would cost $2063.60. The savings is $1939.91 or 7.75 cents per mile. Link to original post

British Airways Executive Club
Outside of the world of frequent flyers and miles/points enthusiasts British Airways Executive Club (BAEC) is a relative unknown for many Canadians. Like Aeroplan, Membership Rewards points covert 1:1 to Avios, which is the currency of British Airways Executive Club so you are earning 2 to 6 Avios per dollar spent.  It can take up to 5 days for points to convert from Amex to BAEC. The beauty of BAEC is that you have the entire oneworld Alliance to use the Avios with. oneworld includes British Airways of course, Aer Lingus, Iberia, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Cathay Pacific and a whole slew of other airlines. Being a frequent flyer there again is the ability to pull some outsized value when you redeem for business class or first class flights but it also provides some really good economy class options. For example, outside of North America flights that fall into their Zone 1 category of 1-650 miles in distance only require 4,000 Avios on British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia & Vueling or 6,000 Avios on partner airlines! Putting that into terms of the double points earned for dining on the Platinum Card and you can have an award flight for $667 in spending. Again unmatched in terms of how little spend you need to actually get a flight. And the icing on the cake is that American Express does offer occasional bonuses for transferring to British Airways that can push the value even higher. That being said I am going to predict we won't see the transfer bonus this year because of the double points promotion. Here

Marriott Bonvoy
The last of the best three programs to convert to is Marriott Bonvoy and it has a redemption ratio of 5 Membership Rewards points to 6 Marriott Bonvoy points. That means with the current double points promotion you are earning the equivalent of 2.4 to 7.2 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar spent. At the bottom end we value Marriott Bonvoy points a 1 cent apiece. So at the very minimum you'd be getting a 2.4 to 7.2% return but again Marriott is the type of program that you can get some big value from. In the past we have found redemption options almost as high as 5% (4.89 to be exact) so returns of around 11.7% to 35% and that's just basing it on one example. There are possibilities to pull more value out of the program especially when you consider that Marriott Bonvoy will give you one night free when you redeem for 5 consecutive nights (you only end up paying points for 4 nights).

Other Frequent Travel Partners
It can even be advantageous to convert to some of the other airline programs despite the transfer ratio not being as good as the three above. Cathay Pacific, Delta and Etihad Airways all have sweet spots where taking that lower transfer rate may make sense to redeem for flights. For example you may be building a big trip to multiple continents and you maybe you need Aeroplan to get to Africa but then can utilize Etihad to fly from Africa to Asia and so on! There are just so many possibilities with American Express' Membership Rewards!

As you can see the key right now is to have the card and put every little bit of spending on it and worry about redemption later. If you aren't looking at maximizing the double redemption option of 1,000 points for $20 you can literally sit on the points for when you need them.  If you don't have the card I would apply for it sooner than later so you can maximize the amount of days you can spend on it. Remember that the Platinum Card currently offers 50,000 welcome points when you spend $3,000 on the card in the first three months of having it and another 10,000 points when you hold the card for 6 months. Remember as well that the card does have a $699 annual fee but you get an annual $200 travel credit and tons of benefits on top of that. Witt the current double points (and double redemption option) the card is the most valuable card in Canada right now even with the $699 annual fee. It is hands down the best card to have or get right now!

In fact here are Rewards Canada all our spending outside of groceries and food delivery services (which go on our Cobalt cards) are now going on the Platinum Card from American Express.

Below is the most current offer for the card. It may not reflect the discussion above.
