Marriott Bonvoy - Earn double points on all stays Worldwide starting with your 2nd stay between March 19 and June 4

The first global promotion for Marriott's newly rebranded Bonvoy program is here. Called Double Take, the promotion is simple and offers double points on all stays starting with your second stay. As you can see the promotion is set up to encourage you to stay multiple times with the chain, so if you only have one stay you won't get the bonus. However if that one stay is a multiple night stay you could hotel hop to make two stays but unless you are staying at pricier hotels it may not be worth it for the extra points. Really it's up to you.

Offer details
Double Bonvoy Points on all eligible stays at participating Marriott Hotels Worldwide starting with your second stay. Full details, online registration & booking (Registration is required) Register by May 21 for stays between Mar 19 and Jun 4, 19

Here's just a small example of the bonuses you'll find:

The TD First Class Visa Infinite Card just came out with its best offer yet - 80,000 welcome points + first year free

TD's proprietary reward cards and the Aeroplan Infinite Privilege were refreshed with new offers yesterday. The biggest and most exciting one is on the TD First Class Visa Infinite Card. The welcome offer has been doubled from the previous offer of 40,000 points to 80,000 points! This is the largest sign up bonus that has been ever offered on this card. What makes this deal even better is that it still has first year free limited time benefit attached to it! These 80,000 points translate to $320 worth of travel credits for any travel booking or $400 worth of travel for bookings made via Expedia For TD. Those are some pretty big bonuses either way you look at it considering all you have to do is spend $1,000 on the card to get all 80,000 points.

Here are the details of how the bonus is applied:
Apply online by June 2, 2019 to get a full Annual Fee Rebate for the Primary Cardholder for the first year and up to 80,000 (a travel value of $400 when you book travel purchases through ExpediaForTD.com3) as follows:
Welcome Bonus of 20,000 TD Points when you make your first Purchase with your Card +  60,000 TD Points when you spend $1,000 within 90 days of Account opening.
You can tell TD is making a big push right now for new card acquisitions! First we had the amazing TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card offer that came out a few weeks ago,  then this offer on the First Class card plus new offers out for the TD Platinum Travel Visa and Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege and you can see that right now TD means business.

March 1 Update: New $120 travel credit on the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite card (but FYF gone), SCENE Visa increased welcome offer & more

The CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Card has a new offer available as of today. To us it isn't as good as the previous one albeit it does provide the same value. The new offer sees the First Year Free being nixed and replaced by a $120 travel credit. Sure this gives you the same value but now you are forced to book some travel to end up in the same place as the first year free offer. And the credit expires June 30, 2020 - that's a pretty big window but there is a likelihood someone's plans may not work out and they lose out on that benefits.  Find out more about the offer here.

You'll notice as well that all the big banks are now moving from marketing their cards based on the sign up bonus to what value the cards provide in the first year and beyond. The above CIBC card is touted as up to $750 in value in travel value, the Scotia offer that came out earlier today is being touted as $400 in value, BMO moved to the dollar value on thier BMO Rewards cards and so on. You can see they are doing whatever they can to out do each other but in the end it comes down to even more than what the value is. We all know CIBC Rewards and BMO Rewards are less flexible than Amex Membership Rewards or Scotia Rewards but they won't tell you that in their marketing! Such is our market however!

Scotiabank has also increased the sign up bonus on their SCENE Visa from 2,000 points to 2,500 points. Not huge in our minds, they really should bring back the 4,000 or 5,000 point bonus if they really want some uptake on that card.

Scotia Passport Visa Infinite Card sees increased sign up bonus of 30,000 points

Many of have you asked whether the well rounded Scotia Passport Visa Infinite Card would ever see an increased sign up bonus and/or have a first year free offer. Good news is that today Scotia launched a new offer for the card that sees an increased sign up bonus. Right now when you apply for the card you'll earn 30,000 points when you spend $1,000 in the first three months of having the card.  This is 5,000 more points than the standard offer we've seen since this card launched almost a year ago.

The current offer is being promoted as up to 40,000 points in the first year but that includes the standard extra bonus of 10,000 points if you spend $40,000 or more on the card annually. So technically the sign up bonus is only 30,000 points but that alone is worth $300 towards any travel. No matter what it is nice to see this small increase on the card that we ranked as the number 1 travel points credit card with annual fee in our 2019 credit card rankings. This is a well rounded card whose main benefit that everyone likes on the card is the no foreign transaction fees! Here are the main highlights of this car:
  • No FX mark-up on foreign transactions made on purchases abroad. Only the exchange rate applies. Most cards charge 2.5% and currently, no other major financial institution in Canada offers a credit card with no FX Mark-Up.
  • 2x the points on grocery, dining, entertainment and daily transit (including buses, subways, taxis, Ubers and more) - we see this as taking quite a few cards in the first three categories but most notably American Express' Cobalt Card as it was the first card to have a multiplier on Transit
  • Priority Pass Annual Membership with 6 lounge visits
  • The card will earn 1 Scotia Rewards point per dollar spent outside of the categories listed above.
  • The card also provides an annual bonus of 10,000 points if you spend $40,000 or more on the card per year.
  •  It comes with Comprehensive Travel Insurances: Travel Emergency Medical, Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption.
  • Annual fee of $139 and no fees on the first additional card

Air France KLM Flying Blue Promo Rewards - Save 25% on business class awards from Calgary, Edmonton & Toronto to Europe

The newest set of Air France KLM's Promo Rewards are now listed on Air France's website however they won't be bookable until 6pm ET time tonight!  With promo awards the discount ranges from 20 to 50% off the regular amount of miles required to redeem for these flights. As you can see just by the discount this can be a very good offer if you get 50% off for Business Class! This month all of the Canadian cities are at 25% off for Business Class. Those cities are Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto.  Even at 25% off this is a pretty good deal considering May and June are great times to visit Europe before the major summer rush!

Offer details
March Promo Rewards - Save 20% to 50% on the Award Miles usually required for an award ticket. Destinations vary by each promotional period. Full Details  Book by Mar 31  for travel May 1 - Jun, 19
Calgary - 25% off business class
Edmonton - 25% off business class
Toronto - 25% off business class

Here are the mileage requirements for flying from Canada to Amsterdam and/or Paris (the mileage amount will vary for other cities in Europe)

As we mentioned above you can't book these just yet which also means we can't provide you with snap shots of availability like we usually do (we'll have a follow up post for that) You'll have to wait until about 6pm tonight to see availability on the routes and to book them. The mileage amounts required will vary by the location you want to fly to, for example you can usually fly to Brussels, Milan, Athens and other cities for even less than what is listed above for Amsterdam or Paris.

If you don't have enough miles for a Promo Reward your best bet is to convert Marriott Rewards points to Flying Blue on a 3:1 basis. Remember you'll earn 5,000 bonus miles when you convert 60,000 points at a time (a total of 25,000 miles per 60,000 points) That means 120,000 points will get you to 50,000 miles which is enough to cover a one way flight between Canada and Europe in Business Class!

If you don't have any Marriott Rewards Points you can always look at getting the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card to top off your account. Currently the card comes with a 60,000 point sign up bonus when you spend $1,500 on the card and then you could also grab the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card as it also has 60,000 point sign up bonus. You would then ultimately be able to have 120,000 points (50,000 miles) not including what points are earned on spending. Of course timing of getting the card(s) now, spending and getting the points will likely not happen for this month but it sets you up for future offers.  Need to grab two tickets for an itinerary? You could choose to get one Marriott card for yourself and one for your partner or spouse and you'll have a lot more points!
