November 7 Update: 2x WestJet dollars for flights booked today, Give A Miles Flight Hero reminder + 25 new bonuses!

No news today as I strove to play catch up on a boat load of bonus offers that need posting to the Rewards Canada and FFB sites. 25 of those offers can found below in the bonus offers section. IHG Buy Points Bonus extended to November 9 and updated list of PointBreaks hotels (only 60 left)

Last week was a big week for IHG with their 100% bonus on buying points being released just before the new PointBreaks list was released. The 100% bonus was to end on November 3rd but has now been extended to November 9th! That means you can still go in and buy points for as little as 0.5 cents each when you buy 26,000 to 60,000 points which translates to only paying US$25 per night for the hotels listed below when utilizing the PointBreaks rate of 5,000 points per night. The list originally had 100 hotels but as of posting that is done to 60 hotels. The list in Canada dropped from 5 hotels to 4 with the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Ottawa East – Orleans already selling out.

You can buy points with the 100% bonus here until November 9, 2017.

November 6 Update: Air France KLM Flying Blue going revenue based, beVancouver Amex Gift Card offer returns & more

Air France KLM have announced changes to their Flying Blue program that will take place on April 1, 2018. The big news, is that they are following suit of many other airline programs and moving to a strict revenue based earning system rather than distance based. Earning for flights will be as follows:

Ivory members (Base level): 4 miles per EUR
Silver members: 6 miles per EUR
Gold members: 7 miles per EUR
Platinum members: 8 miles per EUR

Earning elite status will change to earning Experience Points (XP) rather than status miles/qualifying flights. Hit 100 XP in a rolling 12 month period and you'll get Silver status, 180 for Gold or 300 for Platinum. The key term now is rolling 12 month period, rather than calendar year. This will kick in on April 1.

Mileage expiry is also changing, the 24 month rule stays in place but all miles earned remain valid if you fly with Air France KLM or other SkyTeam airlines or use a Flying Blue credit card once every 2 years however miles earned on their own from flying non-SkyTeam partners, car rentals, hotels etc. will continue to be valid as long as you earn from those partners once every two years if you don't have an AF KLM SkyTeam flight or credit card purhcase. Make sense?

They don't reveal too much on the redemption side other than all seats will be available, which we can assume will be on a sliding scale much like Aeroplan's Market Fare awards and they will also give you the option to use Miles+Cash for awards (up to 25% of an award can be paid for with cash if you don't have enough miles) Promo Awards will continue however under the new moniker of Promo Reward Tickets. The redemption options are slated to go live in June 2018.

30% Bonus Aeroplan Miles when you convert hotel loyalty program points to Aeroplan until December 11

We see the return of another Aeroplan conversion bonus! Last seen this past summer, the hotel only transfer bonus is back but this time it's a flat 30% bonus miles instead of the flat 35% seen in the previous version. You have the make sure that you transfer enough hotel points to earn 5,000 Aeroplan Miles in your account by December 11 to get the 30% bonus which of course is lower than the summer promotion but what is good again is that the bonus is not tiered like we were used to prior to the summer and 30% is still a pretty good deal especially if you have you eyes on a flight reward in the next few months.

Most of Aeroplan's hotel partners are participating in the promotion so you can convert from any of the following to add to your final tally:

Your best bet for transfers is Starwood Preferred Guest of course since they transfer 1 to 1 to Aeroplan and if you transfer 20,000 Starpoints at one time SPG will throw in an additional 5,000 miles for 25,000 Aeroplan miles. With the conversion bonus you are actually looking at getting 32,500 Aeroplan Miles for the 20,000 Starpoints. Those miles can get you two short haul tickets so you can see the potential value in transferring Starpoints to Aeroplan.

Of course if you have points sitting in other hotel programs that you may never use or are about to expire you should look at transferring them to Aeroplan so that you actually get some value out of them!

Normally we would recommend getting the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card to be able to take advantage of this offer but seeing how there is only a one month window for it chances are getting that card and the points from would most likely happen after December 11th. You could look at getting the American Express Cobalt Card since it earns Membership Rewards points which you have access to immediately and start putting tons of spend on it in the 5x Food & Dining category and then convert whatever points you have to SPG shortly before December 11 and that will equate to 2.5 Starpoints per dollar spent.

Starwood Preferred Guest: Receive a 35% discount when you buy or gift Starpoints (until Dec 29, 17)

Last seen in the summer the great buy Starpoints offer of a 35% discount on the cost of the points has returned. Your yearly limit remains at 30,000 Starpoints so if you haven't bought any yet this year this could be the time to do. This offer brings the price down to US 2.28 cents each or just above 1.82 cents per airline mile if you take advantage of SPG's 5,000 mile bonus when converting 20,000 Starpoints at a time. A pretty good price seeing that you can get higher value out of the points if you redeem strategically either for hotel stays or award flights!

Top 5 Credit Card Sign Up offers for November

Here are the Rewards Canada Top 5 Credit Card Sign Up offers for the month of November! This is not a 'best' credit card list like our Top Travel Rewards Credit Card rankings but instead a look at cards that have very good acquisition (sign up) offers. As always when choosing a card you should always take other factors into account other than the sign up bonus, but when most or all of these cards are first year free, they can and do pay off even when you grab them strictly for sign up rewards. In fact all of the cards on this list for September are first year free so you can try them out at no cost and decide later on if the card is right for you. All the while earning the sign up bonus which can be used to subsidize your travels!

Back into the list the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite card offers a 15,000 Aventura Points sign up bonus worth anywhere from $150 to $300 depending on what type of flight you redeem for and since the annual fee of $120 (and supplementary cards are waived as well) those 15,000 points come at no cost to you.

Scotiabank Gold American Express Card - 25,000 Points  (Apply here)

A very strong card in the earn category for Gas, Grocery and Dining/Entertainment purchases, the current sign up bonus for the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card is 30,000 points when you reach $1,000 in spending in the first three months. That 25,000 points is equal to a $250 travel credit and since this card is a book anywhere card you can book the travel how you want when you want and when the charge shows up on your account you can redeem the points against the charge. The card normally has a $99 annual fee but of course that is waived in the first year during this promotion.

TD First Class Visa Infinite Card - 50,000 Points (Apply here)
Its been awhile since this card has had a good sign up offer and now it has what we can recall as one of its highest bonuses of 50,000 points but that's not all it also has the first year fee waived! You get the standard sign up bonus of 20,000 upon approval and another 30,000 when you spend $1,000 in the first 90 days of having the card. Those 50,000 points translate to $200 worth of travel credits for any travel booking or $250 worth of travel for bookings made via Expedia For TD

If you went for all these cards you ultimately could end up with $1,300 or so in travel credits but even if you only take on one or two you are helping your travel budget significantly at no cost other than regular credit card spend

Miles & More Award Ticket Sale - Save 50% on Economy class award tickets from Montreal to Europe

As we do each month we bring you the latest set Miles & More "Meilenschnaeppchen" discounted mileage awards!  This month we see another good offering of economy award tickets! The offers are for departures on Lufthansa from Montreal to 72 destinations in Europe.

These are good for travel between Mar 1 and Apr 15 and must be booked by Nov 30.

You can redeem Miles & More miles for round trip economy class tickets on Lufthansa from Montreal to Europe for only 30,000 miles. This is a 50% discount off the normal Economy Class award ticket price of 60,000 miles.  Granted the Lufthansa tickets will have fuel surcharges but this is still a pretty good deal when you look at it as a whole in terms of miles+cash outlay.
