Pingaling posted the following comment on our post from January on the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card - 25,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles and First Year Free!

"Looks like the technical issue is back. Site application kept running a loop - aeroplan details, td login, select card, back to aeroplan details, etc..etc.."

We talked to TD about this and here is their response:

"There is one issue that we know about, when existing TD customers are logged into Easyweb and are unable to proceed with completing an application. The target fix date for this issue is April 9th.

If this issue is happening to those who are not TD customers/logged into Easyweb, let me know if there are any further details (such as which step, what the error message is) so we can flag the issue for a fix.

In the meantime, if customers are still having trouble with the online application, I would recommend that they call our Credit Card Call Centre at 1-800-983-8472 and mention the Aeroplan offer on Rewards Canada with the code REPWQ. The phone rep will have to input this code so that we can fulfill the offer for the customer"

So if this is not the issue you are seeing, please comment below at what step or what the error message is so that we can pass it along to TD.

Looks like another benefit, albeit not a major one, has been removed from Visa Infinite Privilege cards (TD, RBC, CIBC et al). This time its the Hailo Car/Taxi services that have been removed. The 12 $5 credits are no longer available. You'll see that this has been removed from the terms on their site.

Alaska Airlines is offering the first checked bag free to their Mileage Plan members for the month of January. If you are flying Alaska Airlines this month out of their Western Canadian gateways make sure you join Mileage Plan if you are not a member yet (free to join). Find all the details here.

American Airlines AAdvantage and US Airways Dividend Miles are now allowing you to link your accounts in both programs as the anticipated merge nears. There is no sharing of benefits, privileges etc. when you link your accounts, it simply makes the process easier when time comes to amalgamate your Dividend Miles account into your AAdvantage account. American AAdvantage & US Airways to be merged in Q2-2015 - Here are some of the details

Thanks to our long time reader Andrew S. for forwarding the email to us (I assume we'll get the email later today as it takes some time to send out notices to millions of AAdvantage members) outlining the details of the new AAdvantage program for 2015 which includes the integration of US Airways Dividend Miles. You can read all about the new program here. Here are some of the highlights:

US Airways Dividend Miles integration
In the second quarter of 2015 we'll the see the end of US Airways Dividend Miles as it gets absorbed into American AAdvantage. Sometime before that you'll be able to link your Dividend Miles and AAdvantage accounts to make combining them easier when the time comes.  You will not be able to transfer miles between accounts however.

Elite Status/Qualification
US Airways has four elite levels while American AAdvanage has three, here is how they will line up:

The only change for AAdvantage members is the 120 segment requirement for Executive Platinum which is increased to match the Dividend Miles requirement for the top elite level.

In terms of 2015 status, they will look at your combined elite-qualifying activity for 2014, and separately your combined 2015 year-to-date elite-qualifying activity to determine your elite status level.

Mileage Earning
Starting January 1, 2015, you'll earn a 50% bonus for travel on business class tickets on American and US Airways – an increase from the 25% class of service bonus today.

Upgrades
Upgrades will be different on American and US Airways flights until they have a single reservation system towards the end of 2015.

We lose a good Aeroplan earning partner and lots of new bonuses today!

Not so good news out of the Aeroplan camp today. They have announced that as of Oct 31 members will no longer be able to earn miles on their purchases at Rexall.  While the earning may have be relatively minor I am sad to see this partner go. There have been some great bonuses (remember the 800 miles for Adidas body wash?) and it was a good location to use for past Earn Your Wings promos (I still have some of the Rexall $1.09 bandage packages floating around from that promotion) plus at my most convenient shopping area in my community I used to have three places to earn Aeroplan miles, now that is down to one as Sobeys switched to Air Miles, Rexall is done in two weeks which only leaves me with Esso.

Yesterday Cathay Pacific released their 2014 Mega Miles promotion. This is a promotion for using Asia Miles non-airline partners and awards bonuses for earning miles via their large portfolio of partners. Here in Canada one of the easiest ways is for those who have the RBC Cathay Pacific Asia Miles Visa Platinum card or those who have one of the following credit cards that can convert points to Asia Miles (Amex Membership Rewards and RBC Avion are excluded)
CIBC Petro Points MasterCard (C$1 = 1 - 1.5 Asia Miles)
Marriott Rewards Premier Visa (C$1 = 0.15 - 0.25 Asia Miles)
Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express (C$1 = 1 Asia Mile)
Sears Voyage MasterCard (C$1 = 1.2 - 3.6 Asia Miles*)

The Asia Miles offer has almost all their other  non-airline partners involved in these categories:

When you collect miles from these partners Asia Miles will total all of the eligible miles earned and you'll receive a bonus based on those number of miles you earned as follows:

As you can see to achieve the biggest worthwhile bonuses you have to earn quite a few miles (bonus miles from hotels, car rentals etc. do not count, only base miles do) but a lot of that can be achieved with spend made on an eligible credit card or from converting from a Hotel/Shopping program! As we mentioned on Tuesday in our Bonus Offer Highlight post, the non-targeted bonus for buying and/or gifting Dividend Miles is back. Of course buying at the highest level provides you with the biggest bonus. Here are the bonus levels:

Buy 1,000 - 9,000 miles, get a 25% Bonus
Buy 10,000 - 19,000 miles, get  50% Bonus
Buy 20,000 - 29,000 miles, get a 75% Bonus
Buy 30,000 - 50,000 miles, get a 100% Bonus

The promo allows you to buy up to 50,000 miles (so 100,000 in total with the bonus) at 3.5 cents per mile (effective rate is 1.75 cents per mile) plus taxes of $131.25 for total of $1881.25. Considering that can get you a business class ticket between North America and Europe or Asia that can cost a lot more than that, this is a good deal! Since US Airways allows 3 day holds on award tickets you can always find the award flights you want before you buy the miles and therefore you don't have dole out a hefty chunk of change just in case you cannot find availability for your preferred award flights.

July 8 Update: WestJet confirms Wide-Body jet service, US Airways buy miles bonus is back but is targeted this time

WestJet has confirmed they will begin flying wide-body jets. In a press release yesterday they stated their initial plans are for four aircraft to enter service in Fall of 2015 between Alberta and Hawaii. Our assumption is that those planes will then be potentially used on European routes in the summer but this has not been mentioned by WestJet as they simple state "Further announcements regarding WestJet's wide-body schedule for the 2016 summer season will be released at a later date, as the airline looks to expand its operation into overseas markets." British Airways has once again delayed their 787 service to Calgary. The service which was supposed to originally start in a few days was postponed to August and now has been further delayed to mid September. (Source Airlineroute.net)

The Hilton HHonors program has decided to move away from yearly hotel category award night changes to quarterly and the first set of those changes are now out. None of their Canadian properties were affected as 15 hotels went down a category while 24 went up. Air Canada is cancelling their direct non-stop service between Montreal and Denver as of July 1st. If you have revenue or Aeroplan award tickets on this route after this date you can expect to receive a call or email notifying you of this change and chances are you will be routed via Toronto. If you missed the post earlier, today is the last day to jump on the 24,000 bonus points sign up offer for the mbna Choice Privileges MasterCard. With no-fee it is a pretty easy way to get a few free hotel nights or a small amount of miles to pad your Aeroplan or other Frequent Flyer accounts. See the post here.

American Airlines and US Airways completed a few more steps to the integration of the airlines and their respective Frequent Flyer Programs (FFPs). As of this Wednesday the airlines will offer reciprocal upgrades to members of each others FFPs . For complete details on how the upgrade process will work see this post on View From the Wing. The other change is not so good but at least there is advance notice this time. The change that is happening is the matching of the US Airways Dividend Miles award chart to the recently change American AAdvantage chart. Here are the changes as taken from US Airways (Those of you in Vancouver should take note about the oneworld change as it will now cost you more to fly Cathay Pacific's First Class between Vancouver and New York City):

For travel booked on/after August 1, we're raising redemption levels for roundtrip travel on medium and high awards between the continental U.S. and Canada and for First Class awards on three-class service within and between the continental U.S. and Canada on oneworld® and partner flights. All award bookings through July 31 will continue to be honored.

• On US Airways flights, roundtrip award travel in the Main Cabin between the continental U.S. and Canada will require 50,000 miles for medium and 80,000 miles for high-level 1. Roundtrip award travel in First/Business Class between the continental U.S. and Canada will require 100,000 miles for medium and 130,000 miles for high-level 1.
• On oneworld and partner flights, roundtrip award travel in First Class on a three cabin aircraft within and between the continental U.S. and Canada will require 65,000 miles.

In the bonus offers section there is new promotion from Cathay Pacific's Asia Miles for a small bonus when you complete earning transactions from two separate categories out of Airline, Hotel, Car and Travel/leisure. Seeing that Cathay's own flights are included is should be pretty easy for most of you Asia Miles members who have travel planned this summer to earn the 1,000 miles.

In the bonus offers section we post new bonuses from Alitalia MilleMiglia that targets flyers aged 14-25. In many of my discussions with various levels of employees at loyalty programs I have often mentioned that there are two markets generally ignored or underserved by the programs and those are the youung person market and the old person/baby boomer market. Looks like Alitalia has taken noticed of the first at least with the MilleMiglia Young program which not only has the bonus offer listed below (2,000 of those miles are totally free) but thay also offer everyone in that age group 20% off award tickets. So you earn up to 4,000 miles for joining, you get a 50% bonus on all your flights and a 20% discount on award tickets? That's the way you should target a market! You have a group that cannot afford to fly as much (of course the ~14-18 year set probably have to rely on their parents) so what do you do? You award them more miles on their flights and a discount on redemption, this way that group of flyers who would normally take many years to earn enough miles for an award ticket (or perhaps even never!) may actually have a hope of a redemption and as anyone in the loyalty industry knows that once a member has actually redeemed for a reward, they are more likely to continue using that program and remain loyal as they actually feel the program provides them with value. So if you are in that age group or have kids that age get them to join now at least for the 2,000 miles that come totally free and then work on earning more miles if you are an Alitalia flyer!

The promo allows you to buy up to 50,000 miles (so 100,000 in total with the bonus) at 3.5 cents per mile (effective rate is 1.75 cents per mile) plus taxes of $131.25 for total of $1881.25 (1.88 cents per mile). Considering that can get you an International business class ticket with this many miles between that can cost a lot more than that, this is a good deal! We do advise to only purchase however if you know you are going to use to miles soon as it is never good to sit on the miles for a long time due to possible program devaluations that can come at any time. Since US Airways allows 3 day holds on award tickets you can always find the award flights you want before you buy the miles and therefore you don't have dole out a hefty chunk of change just in case you cannot find availability for your preferred award flights.

Czech Airlines OK Plus has eased up on their mileage expiry rules. The recent rules put in place about 2 or so years ago are being relaxed from 24 months to 36 months or none if you hold elite status or a credit card with the program.

Just minutes before this post we posted the newest buy miles offers from Avianca and US Airways, which are by far the two best offers out there but those aren't the only offers out there. We also added new buy miles bonuses from Air France KLM Flying Blue and Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan to the bonus offers section. While it si not advisable to go out and buy a whole bunch of miles with these last two offers if you are only a few thousand miles short of an award in either program then it can be advantageous to take advantage of buying miles at this time to get the bonus.
