March 5 Update: American AAdvantage & World of Hyatt announce new partnership benefitting elite members, new Aeroplan car rental bonuses & more!

American Airlines AAdvantage and World of Hyatt announced a new partnership today that will see reciprocal benefits being extended between the two programs. Similar to United & Marriott's partnership (and Delta, Emirates, China Eastern with SPG back in the day) this partnership awards elite members in both programs with more points when staying at Hyatt Hotels and/or flying on American. No date has been set yet for the launch of the partnership but we should see it later this year (Source Hyatt)

Through this relationship, elite members in both the American Airlines AAdvantage and World of Hyatt loyalty programs will be rewarded with more access to earning both points and miles on qualifying American flights and Hyatt hotel stays.

AAdvantage

• In addition to World of Hyatt points earned through Hyatt hotel stays, AAdvantage Gold, Platinum, Platinum Pro, Executive Platinum and ConciergeKey members will be able to earn one AAdvantage bonus mile for every eligible dollar spent at qualifying Hyatt properties.
• On top of earning more miles, American’s invitation-only ConciergeKey members will receive World of Hyatt Globalist status as a new way to extend the care provided throughout the entire travel journey.

World of Hyatt

• In addition to AAdvantage miles earned by flying on American, World of Hyatt Discoverist, Explorist and Globalist members will be able to earn one World of Hyatt bonus point for every eligible dollar spent on qualifying American flights.

Unique to this collaboration, AAdvantage Platinum, Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum members, and Explorist and Globalist World of Hyatt members will also have the opportunity to participate in limited time status challenges. Upon registering, these elite members will be able to immediately enjoy their new loyalty benefits in the reciprocal program tier as they work to maintain that elite tier status. AAdvantage elite members will have access to World of Hyatt elite status benefits, including a dedicated check-in area, late check-out upon request, room upgrades and free premium internet. World of Hyatt elite members will have access to AAdvantage elite status benefits such as priority boarding, free checked bags, free preferred seats and more.

 Aeroplan's latest set of bonus offers for car rentals with their exclusive partners Avis and Budget are out now. You can earn 1,500 bonus miles on Avis rentals or 500 bonus miles on Budget rentals. Also be on the lookout in your inbox for exclusive offers from Aeroplan for even more miles. I received one offer for 1,000 bonus miles on Avis rentals by March 31 and that bonus is on top of any other bonuses. I just booked an Avis vehicle yesterday for later this month with these promos in mind. If my calculations are right I should receive 3,000 miles in total for the rental (500 base + 1,500 bonus+ 1,000 bonus). You can access the bonuses via our bonus offers section below.

TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card - welcome bonus increased to 50,000 Aeroplan Miles

The next card from TD that is seeing an increased welcome bonus for the current marketing period is the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege card. Although it is not the biggest bonus we've seen for the card (IIRC it was 65,000 miles a few years ago) it is still a nice sign up bonus if you have been considering this card. Most people will not get the card for the bonus, they are getting it for the benefits and features that it provides as there is no fee waiver on the $399 annual fee. The 50K bonus is icing on the cake for what the card provides in terms of benefits. The bonus however is no joke - 50,000 miles are enough for two economy class flights within North America. Find the right redemption for those tickets and you'll pull more value than the $399 annual fee.

Marriott Bonvoy - Earn double points on all stays Worldwide starting with your 2nd stay between March 19 and June 4

The first global promotion for Marriott's newly rebranded Bonvoy program is here. Called Double Take, the promotion is simple and offers double points on all stays starting with your second stay. As you can see the promotion is set up to encourage you to stay multiple times with the chain, so if you only have one stay you won't get the bonus. However if that one stay is a multiple night stay you could hotel hop to make two stays but unless you are staying at pricier hotels it may not be worth it for the extra points. Really it's up to you.

The TD First Class Visa Infinite Card just came out with its best offer yet - 80,000 welcome points + first year free

British Airways Executive Club: 30% Bonus Avios when you transfer hotel points until March 31

British Airways Executive Club has brought back their transfer bonus for moving points from hotel programs into Avios. The bonus is 30% and is good for six major hotel programs:  Marriott Bonvoy points, IHG Rewards Club points, World of Hyatt points, Shangri-La Golden Circle Award Points, Radisson Rewards Points and Hilton Honors points. March 1 Update: New $120 travel credit on the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite card (but FYF gone), SCENE Visa increased welcome offer & more

The CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Card has a new offer available as of today. To us it isn't as good as the previous one albeit it does provide the same value. The new offer sees the First Year Free being nixed and replaced by a $120 travel credit. Sure this gives you the same value but now you are forced to book some travel to end up in the same place as the first year free offer. And the credit expires June 30, 2020 - that's a pretty big window but there is a likelihood someone's plans may not work out and they lose out on that benefits.  Find out more about the offer here.

You'll notice as well that all the big banks are now moving from marketing their cards based on the sign up bonus to what value the cards provide in the first year and beyond. The above CIBC card is touted as up to $750 in value in travel value, the Scotia offer that came out earlier today is being touted as $400 in value, BMO moved to the dollar value on thier BMO Rewards cards and so on. You can see they are doing whatever they can to out do each other but in the end it comes down to even more than what the value is. We all know CIBC Rewards and BMO Rewards are less flexible than Amex Membership Rewards or Scotia Rewards but they won't tell you that in their marketing! Such is our market however!

Scotiabank has also increased the sign up bonus on their SCENE Visa from 2,000 points to 2,500 points. Not huge in our minds, they really should bring back the 4,000 or 5,000 point bonus if they really want some uptake on that card.

Scotia Passport Visa Infinite Card sees increased sign up bonus of 30,000 points

Many of have you asked whether the well rounded Scotia Passport Visa Infinite Card would ever see an increased sign up bonus and/or have a first year free offer. Good news is that today Scotia launched a new offer for the card that sees an increased sign up bonus. Right now when you apply for the card you'll earn 30,000 points when you spend $1,000 in the first three months of having the card.  This is 5,000 more points than the standard offer we've seen since this card launched almost a year ago.

The current offer is being promoted as up to 40,000 points in the first year but that includes the standard extra bonus of 10,000 points if you spend $40,000 or more on the card annually. So technically the sign up bonus is only 30,000 points but that alone is worth $300 towards any travel. No matter what it is nice to see this small increase on the card that we ranked as the number 1 travel points credit card with annual fee in our 2019 credit card rankings. This is a well rounded card whose main benefit that everyone likes on the card is the no foreign transaction fees! Here are the main highlights of this car:

• No FX mark-up on foreign transactions made on purchases abroad. Only the exchange rate applies. Most cards charge 2.5% and currently, no other major financial institution in Canada offers a credit card with no FX Mark-Up.
