Starbucks Rewards Double Star Days now require activation & save 20% on WestJet flights to/from Alberta and B.C.

If you are a Starbucks Rewards member they have made a slight change to their Double Stars Day. Previously members would earn double stars for simply making purchases on a Double Stars Day however now they require members to activate the offer beforehand. This is basically the same process we see with so many loyalty promotions in that you have to register for them beforehand. Loyalty programs put these registrations in place as it saves them from awarding extra points (and thus extra costs) to any members who don't activate or register don't earn the bonus.

New RBC Offers include statement credits and discounts for Landmark Cinemas, Wayfair & Etnies

The latest batch of new RBC Offers sees 13 new and extended statement credit or discount promotions for using your RBC card at select retailers! In total there are nearly 40 offers in place with this program.

Be sure to login to your RBC account right away to load these offers (if required) or get the promo codes if required. Personally I received these offers on the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard but most if not all should also available for RBC's most popular card the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card and most other RBC cards.

REMINDER The credit card to consider getting right now - August 2022

We continue our monthly feature where we recommend a card to consider applying for right away during the course of the current month.  How do we pick which card should be highlighted? We'll look at numerous factors however in most cases it will primarily be due to the limited time offer on the highlighted card ending this month or shortly thereafter.  In some cases, it may be different factors or a combination of factors. We updated our review of the American Express® Gold Rewards Card today. This card which we first reviewed in 2010 is one of the best travel cards in Canada, in fact it was the best from 2011 to 2017 until the Cobalt Card came out. Over the years we had some piece meal updates to that review so we thought it's time to do a complete refresh for 2022 especially seeing that it was revamped in 2021. A nice big update to our American Express Cobalt™ Card Confirmed Multiplier Locations feature! Lots of new 5x points locations in Canada and the U.S. plus several 2x and 1x points offer. Cool to see places like the Royal Tyrell Museum Cafe in Drumheller and Old School Bus Ice Cream coding as 5x points! Check out all the locations here.

Buy World of Hyatt points with a 30% discount (1.68 cents US per point!)

Hyatt is out with another buy points offer and this time it is a discount instead of a bonus. When you buy 5,000 or more points in one transaction they will give a 30% discount on the price. This is different than the typical 30 to 40% bonus that we usually see with Hyatt. With the discount the price works out to 1.68 cents (US) per points which is lower than the 1.714 cents per point (US$) seen when they run their highest 40% bonus. When redeemed it can be pretty easy to receive a value of 2 cents per point or higher so you can see it could be worthwhile to purchase them for rewards around the globe or even if you just need a few thousand points to top off for an award.

Aer Lingus has once again brought back their offer that provides an additional discount off of their flights out of Canada. The discount is up to $100 on Economy Class flights and up to $200 off Business Class flights! The discount is available for tickets booked by August 24 for travel between between September 1 - October 31, 2022.

Hilton Honors’ Fall promotion has been revealed and it offers double points all stays Worldwide. On top of the double points, if you check out on a weekday (Mon-Fri) you’ll earn an additional 2,000 bonus points. With no limit to the number of bonus points you can earn this is a perfect hotel hopping promotion to move around hotels during the middle of week! If you have a three day business trip from Monday to Wednesday and your time allows you to alternate Hilton Hotels for each night you could earn the double points plus 6,000 points for those three nights.

WestJet launching direct flights between Winnipeg and Los Angeles and earn bonus AIR MILES with a new card linked offer for Sephora

WestJet has announced a new direct non-stop route from Winnipeg to Los Angeles. Launching on October 31 the new year round service will initially operate 3x weekly on Monday, Friday and Saturday. This is great news for the city of Winnipeg to get this flight and I'm sure our readers from YWG will be thrilled for it! Learn more here.
