National Bank's new 5x points multiplier may not be as good as we originally thought

Earlier this week we reported changes coming to some of National Bank's credit cards including a new 5x points earn rate on the World Elite Mastercard. There was a lot of excitement surrounding this announcement, even from us but that may have been a little premature! I'll be honest with you I should have paid closer attention to wording around the new 5x points earning rate. As noted by the always astute Josh C. the 5x points on grocery and dining isn't actually capped at $2,500 per month for those categories but rather $2,500 of all your spending. So if you happen to spend $2,500 on some nice new furniture on your card your 5x points earn rate for groceries is gone for that month!

Another hefty update to our American Express Cobalt™ Card Confirmed Multiplier Locations. FM once again providing a nice list of 5x locations in Vancouver, confirming Fairmont Hotels for 2x and a couple of 1x locations including a winery. This one is a statement credit for shopping with Knix, a Canadian company providing invaluable products for Women (Knix are very popular in our household!) The company is making a big push with this type of marketing as it was only a few weeks ago they launched similar promotion for RBC offers (Spend $125 get $14). The revamped no annual fee Scotiabank American Express Card debuted on July 1st along with a new best ever welcome bonus offer! The card's revamp takes place in the earn rates and insurance offered. It  sees increased earn rates in select spending categories and now offers mobile device insurance. 

Fiji Airways launching flights to Vancouver!

A new direct route to the South Pacific is coming our way as Fiji Airways has announced new service between Vancouver and Nadi! The new 2x weekly flights operating on Mondays and Fridays are set to launch on November 25, 2022. 

Changes coming to several National Bank of Canada Mastercards - we'll have another 5x points card on our hands!

National Bank of Canada has announced some changes that will be coming to their Platinum and World Elite Mastercards as of September 1. Both cards will see revised earn rates and some slight changes to the insurance provided on them. While the World Elite Mastercard will also see its annual travel credits benefit changed as well.

London Drugs will be revamping their LDExtras program and Star Alliance gains their first non-airline partner - Deutsche Bahn

LDExtras, the loyalty program for London Drugs will be undergoing its first revamp soon! Thanks to our reader Tony L. for alerting us to the announcement from the Western Canadian retailer. There aren't a lot of details surrounding the change just yet other than the Beauty Rewards portion of the program will be discontinued as of July 31 and the new program will be even easier.
