Solo travellers rejoice! After nearly a year and half there is a bonus on the best airline card in the Canadian market and second best overall travel rewards card that doesn't involve a companion! Just like the Amex cards last week, TD's Aeroplan co-brand cards have moved to strictly a points only bonus instead of points + bonus buddy pass. Yes, there was a period where you could convert Buddy Passes to points so at that time I'm sure lots of individuals, solo, single travellers grabbed the card then but if you didn't now's the time you can do so. I really shouldn't say this new offer is just for solo travellers - this offer is just as great for couples, families or whomever, it's just that the old Buddy Pass offer was more conducive for non-solo travellers.

The new CIBC Costco Mastercard is here for those who had the Capital One Costco Card

The first step in Costco Canada transitioning to CIBC from Capital One was completed on March 4. All Capital One Mastercard for Costco members were officially transferred over to the new CIBC Costco Mastercard. The new partnership between CIBC and Costco Canada was first announced in September 2021 and for the time being the new card is not open to new applicants but it should become available later this month. Members will continue to use their Capital One issued cards until CIBC sends out new cards to them.

Before the pandemic happened Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan was well known for running promotions with their partner airlines. Whether is was for earning more miles or redeeming less miles, you could count on Alaska to offer something several times per year. That has not been the case for nearly 2 years but as of a couple of days ago if you made sure to read the latest email blast from Alaska you would have seen their first partner offer since 2020 and this one is great because there are two options! Regional and city tourism boards here in Canada are back at it again looking to stimulate travel and have people stay in their areas! Over the summer we saw many of them provide incentives for hotel stays in their respective regions and a lot of those offers are back for the fall and winter. Typically the incentive is providing a gift card, discounts, free nights or other perks for booking and staying at hotels in that said region or city. This type of promotion is steadily increasing in  popularity in Canada ever since one of early trendsetters started it off many years ago. That trendsetter was Tourism Vancouver and Vancouver Hotel Destination Association who launched BeVancouver as early as 2015.
