Up to 50% off Austrian Airlines & Lufthansa Economy and Business Class award tickets between Toronto or Vancouver and Europe

As we do each month we bring you the latest set Miles & More "Meilenschnaeppchen" or Mileage Bargain discounted mileage awards. This month the offers are for flying on Austrian Airlines or Lufthansa from Toronto or just Lufthansa from Vancouver

Toronto
Austrian Airlines Business Class
Book by February for travel until April 30, 2019

Toronto
Lufthansa Economy Class
Book by February 28 for travel between June 1 - July 15 , 2019

Vancouver
Lufthansa Economy or Business Class
Book by February 28 for travel between June 1 - July 15 , 2019

With this offer you can redeem Miles & More miles for round trip business class tickets on Austrian or Lufthansa for only 55,000 miles. This is nearly a 50% discount off the normal award ticket price of 105,000 miles (soon to be 112,000 so we can only assume the discounted price will go up as well). Remember however Miles & More charges some major fees for redeeming miles on these flights so be sure you also check what a revenue ticket costs however remember this is for business class so even several hundreds of dollars in fees along with 55,000 miles could be the savings you are looking for.

Here are some of the Business Class offers this month:

You can also choose to redeem 30,000 miles for round-trip Economy Class  Lufthansa flights out of both Toronto Vancouver to Europe. This is a 50% discount off the normal Economy Class award ticket price of 60,000 miles.

Here is an example of some of them:

Short on Miles & More miles? Your best bet is to convert Marriott Rewards points to Miles & More on a 3:1 basis plus you'll earn 5,000 bonus miles when you convert 60,000 points at a time. That means 75,000 points is all it would take to get one of the economy class tickets if you don't have any Miles & More miles to your name.

If you don't have any Marriott Rewards Points you can get close to amount required to redeem for the tickets by grabbing some credit cards! How so? As we always mention in this post you can boost your Miles & More account with the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express to top off your account. Currently the card comes with a 50,000 point sign up bonus when you spend $1,500 on the card and then you could also grab The Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card from American Express as it also has 50,000 point sign up bonus and then you would ultimately be able to have 100,000 points not including what is earned on spending. Of course timing of getting the card(s) now, spending and getting the points will likely not happen for this month but it sets you up for future offers.  Need to grab two tickets for an itinerary? You could choose to get one SPG card for yourself and one for your partner or spouse.

Best Western Rewards: Earn a Free Night when you complete 2 stays in the U.S., Canada or Caribbean

Best Western's next big promotion sees the return of their free night voucher being awarded after you complete two stays. It's been a long awaited return for this promo as we haven't seen it since June of 2016 - all the promotions since then have either been bonus points or the $10/$20 BW Travel card offers. This offer can be really lucrative as you can choose to complete two really cheap stays and then use the voucher for a stay at a more expensive Best Western hotel. There is one big caveat however, you have only 60 days to use your voucher from the time it is issued to you. Keep this in mind when you are looking at this promotion. If you are travelling in Canada remember that there are 13 new hotels opening up here this year, 4 of them are either open or should be open for this promotion on the earn side with 2 or 3 more opening up in time to use the voucher at. Learn about those hotel openings here.

Offer details:
Earn a Free Night when you complete 2 eligible stays at a Best Western® branded hotel in the United States, Canada or Caribbean. Limit of 1 free night voucher per member and that voucher is valid for 60 days.  Full details, online registration & booking (Registration is required) Until Apr 14, 19

Reminder: The RBC Visa Infinite Avion offers up to 20,000 bonus RBC Rewards points and is first year free right now

The current semi-exclusive offer for the RBC Visa Infinite Avion card offers 20,000 points and has the first year free but you'll have to put some spend on the card to get the bonus.  When approved you'll get 15,000 points then when you spend $1,000 on the card in the first three months you'll be awarded with 5,000 more points for 20,000 total - and the first year annual fee is waived. To get 20,000 points for free is a great deal that is assuming the $1,000 in spending you put on the card is spending you would do otherwise. This is an easily achievable spend requirement only only $333.33 per month so if you missed out on the offer that ended in July this next one is as close as you'll get to it and is still really good to take advantage of.

Those 20,000 points will equate to 20,000 British Airways Avios at no cost (or more when they run their transfer bonuses)! Or 200 WestJet dollars at no cost and that doesn't even take into account the transfer bonuses they run occasionally throughout the year. And remember BA has household accounts so you and your spouse could each get the card then convert to BA and combine the Avios into one account for 40,000 or more Avios. Remember that you can get really cheap Avios redemptions to Dublin from Toronto and Montreal on Aer Lingus. There are just so many options here....

Here are some articles we have written to help you decide if this offer is for you!

Air France KLM Flying Blue Promo Rewards Availability Update - Montreal to Europe for 53,000 miles (Business) or 21,500 miles (Economy)

Yesterday we brought you details of the February version of Air France KLM Flying Blue's Promo Rewards. As we mentioned at the time of posting that availability for the new routes wasn't showing yet. Well now this offer is  live and here are some examples of availability and routes you can get this deal on, especially so for the great offer of 50% off economy and business class seats out of Montreal!

Offer details
February Promo Rewards - Save 20% to 50% on the Award Miles usually required for an award ticket. Destinations vary by each promotional period. Full Details  Book by Feb 28 for travel Apr 1 - May 31, 19
Edmonton - 25% off business class
Montreal  - 50% off business and economy class
Toronto - 25% off economy class
Vancouver - 25% off economy class

And an example of some of the business class availability from Montreal to Paris:
 and Paris back to Montreal

Total miles and fees come to 53,000 miles and $741.73

Economy class availability on the same route
Montreal - Paris Economy class

Paris - Montreal Economy Class
and the total is only 21,500 miles + $292.76
That's not too bad of deal either!

There are also other options at 53,000 miles for business class (and should be available in Economy for 21,500 miles round trip):

The above however shows the weirdness in Flying Blue's non-award chart pricing. Most European cities are pricing at 53,000 miles out of Montreal but when you look at Edmonton it is 91,500 miles to Amsterdam however to Milan it is only 87,000 miles!

No matter what it looks like there is lots of availability for April and May out the Canadian cities to Europe and the Montreal flights are an amazing deal for either Business Class or Economy Class!

If you don't have enough Flying Blue miles for a Promo Reward your best bet is to convert Marriott Rewards points to Flying Blue on a 3:1 basis. Remember you'll earn 5,000 bonus miles when you convert 60,000 points at a time (a total of 25,000 miles per 60,000 points) That means 129,000 points will get you to 53,000 miles which is enough to cover the round trip Montreal to Europe flight in Business Class! Or just convert 60,000 to get the 25,000 miles which covers the round trip Montreal flights in Economy Class.

If you want to build up your Marriott Rewards Points balance you can always look at getting the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express. Currently the card comes with a 50,000 point sign up bonus when you spend $1,500 on the card and then you could also grab the Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card from American Express as it also has 50,000 point sign up bonus. You would then ultimately be able to have 100,000 points not including what points are earned on spending. Of course timing of getting the card(s) now, spending and getting the points will likely not happen for this month but it sets you up for future offers.  Need to grab two tickets for an itinerary? You could choose to get one SPG card for yourself and one for your partner or spouse and you'll have a lot more points!

(Source Air Canada)

Yesterday we brought you some news on American Express' Centurion Lounges and earlier in the month we mentioned how several locations were closing for renovations. The good news is the Miami location is now open for business again! You can access this lounge with a Canadian issued Platinum Card or Centurion Card. (Source DoC)

Starting tomorrow if you are flying on American Airlines flights within the U.S. you will be able to stream Apple Music at no extra cost. (Source Apple)

Marriott New Hotel Openings in Canada for 2019 - 22 hotels in the works

With over 6,500 hotels Marriott Hotels is one of the largest hotel companies in the world and with the recent takeover of Starwood they are one of the biggest in Canada. The chain comprises of a whopping 29 brands ranging from mid-level budget locations to high end luxury resorts.

Marriott is looking to add nearly two dozen more hotels to their Canadian portfolio in 2019.  To the best of our knowledge this is largest growth out of any of the major hotel chains.

These are the hotels and their anticipated opening dates (of course these are subject to change):

Artist rendering of the JW Marriott ICE District
I would say the most anticipated hotels of the bunch are definitely the JW Marriott ICE District Edmonton Hotel and The Westin Calgary Airport, the latter of which literally just opened a few days ago from the time of posting this!

JW Marriott ICE District Suite
The JW Marriott in Edmonton has 356 rooms with an executive level and executive lounge while the Westin Calgary Airport has 247 rooms and includes a club floor with a club lounge. The  JW Marriott ICE District Hotel is a Category 5 hotel in the Marriott Rewards program and the new Westin is only a Category 4 hotel which means you can utilize the new free night anniversary benefit from the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card at both of these locations! Both hotels also sport indoor pools and fitness rooms. The JW also has a spa while the Westin has a large conference centre built in to the hotel which has the largest hotel attached ballroom in Calgary at 16,621 square feet.

Remember to take advantage of all the possible Marriott Rewards/Bonus bonus points offers that are on offer if you plan on staying at any of these new Marriott hotels or any other Marriott hotels for that matter! You can find all the promotions listed on our Marriott Rewards Bonus Points page.

Are you excited about any of the new Marriot hotels opening up this year? Are there any locations or brands you'd like to see in your neck of the woods? Let us know in the comments below.

Air France KLM Flying Blue Promo Rewards - Save 50% on economy and business class awards from Montreal to Europe, other Canadian cities see 25%

The newest set of Air France KLM's Promo Rewards are now listed on Air France's website however they won't be bookable until 6pm ET time tonight!  With promo awards the discount ranges from 20 to 50% off the regular amount of miles required to redeem for these flights. As you can see just by the discount this can be a very good offer if you get 50% off for Business Class! This month Montreal gets lucky with 50% off business and economy class tickets! Edmonton gets 25% off Business Class while Vancouver and Toronto get 25% off for Economy Class.

Offer details
February Promo Rewards - Save 20% to 50% on the Award Miles usually required for an award ticket. Destinations vary by each promotional period. Full Details  Book by Feb 28 for travel Apr 1 - May 31, 19
Edmonton - 25% off business class
Montreal  - 50% off business and economy class
Toronto - 25% off economy class
Vancouver - 25% off economy class

Here are the mileage requirements for flying from Canada to  Amsterdam and/or Paris (the mileage amount will vary for other cities in Europe)

As we mentioned above you can book these just yet which also means we can't provide you with snap shots of availability like we usually do (we'll have a follow up post tomorrow for that) You'll have to wait until about 6pm tonight to see availability on the routes and to book them. The mileage amounts required will vary by the location you want to fly to,  for example you can usually fly to Brussels, Milan, Athens and other cities for even less than what is listed above for Amsterdam or Paris.

The Montreal offer is amazing no matter what city you pick whether it is 50,000 or 53,000 miles round trip for business class - and this is for Spring when the weather is nicer, the sun is out longer - a perfect time to visit Europe!

If you don't have enough miles for a Promo Reward your best bet is to convert Marriott Rewards points to Flying Blue on a 3:1 basis.

If you don't have any Marriott Rewards Points you can always look at getting the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express to top off your account.
