More programs changes being revealed, not so good news for JAL Premium Class travel out of YVR.

SAS Scandinavian EuroBonus is the next airline to release mileage earning changes for 2015. Unfortunately those flying on the cheapest fares including some of the higher SAS Plus categories won't earn as many EuroBonus points. The only flights where there seems to be an increase in mileage earning is long haul business class. The good news is that Elite Status qualification is lowered! Point requirements for Gold status: 45 000 Basic points (previously 50 000) or 45 one-way trips (previously 50), for Diamond status: 90 000 Basic points (previously 100 000) or 90 one-way trips (previously 100) (Source SAS)

Japan Airlines Mileage Bank have also released the details of their 2015 program. Some the major highlights include

• JAL International First Class and Business Class award tickets mileage requirements are changing, see the charts below for flights from Vancouver and other North American cities to Japan (not until Nov 1, 2015, now that's advance notice!!). As you can see business and first class are seeing major increases except on select days of the week and the lowest discount economy goes lower!
• one way International award flights now only costing half the miles of a round trip flight.
• new phone in fees for changing award ticket reservations
• using miles to pay for excess baggage fees
• award tickets will be able to be changed to the next higher class without the mileage reinstatement fee (Source JAL)

Nov 26 Update: Alaska Airlines 2015 Mileage Earning Changes, British Aiways Gold Guest List Qualification changes

Alaska Airlines makes positive earning changes for flying on their planes!

Alaska Airlines has released some details of mileage earning changes that will take place on January 1st 2015 and for those flying on Alaska metal the changes are good for those who fly on more expensive tickets. For those flying on Delta but crediting to MileagePlan it isn't good. These are further signs of the heated battle going on for Seattle between the two carriers.

British Airways is changing the qualification criteria for their Gold Guest List elite status. Here is an excerpt from FlyerTalk where a BA representative posted this news:

You can qualify for Gold Guest List by either reaching 5,000 Tier Points during one single Tier Point Collection Year or by reaching 3,000 Tier Points in two consecutive Tier Point Collection Years. From 1st January 2015 Members will only be able to qualify for Gold Guest List by reaching 5,000 Tier Points during one single Tier Point Collection Year – which means that Members will no longer be able to qualify by reaching 3,000 Tier Points in two consecutive years....

...There is no change to the renewal criteria meaning that existing Gold Guest List Members can continue to renew by reaching 3,000 Tier Points during their Tier Point Collection Year.

For the third promotional period in a row Best Western is only bonusing bookings made online via their website. It also appears that Best Western may be doing quite well as the bonus has dwindled to only 500 points from the previous 1,000 to 1,500 we saw. Even elites don't get love here with an extra bonus like we saw on the promo that ended on November 23rd. Anyways, if you are Best Westerner a bonus is a bonus so you should register for it and book via bestwestern.com to up your point intake.

Qatar Airways 2 for 1 Business Class Sale out of Montreal (includes 50% bonus miles) - Book by Nov 26

Qatar Airways has a launched yet another global 2 for 1 business class sale and once again it includes their flights out of Montreal to various destinations Worldwide. Fares start as low as $2,890 all in and must be booked by October 31st for travel between December 1 and March 26. The offer also includes 50% bonus QMiles if you are a member of Qatar Airways Privilege Club. Back in September when we released our Top 5 Travel Rewards Currencies we told you that one program to watch out for was Cineplex's Scene program. We told you this because it was set to grow beyond earning points primarily at movies and via Scotiabank. Now we know of one of the first forays of Scene building into a coalition type program as they have added Sport Chek to their roster for points earning and redemption. Sport Chek used to be an Air Miles partner not too long ago and it looks like they may have missed being part of the loyalty world so it is nice to see them join up with Scene. You'll earn 1 scene point for every $1 spent at Sport Chek and be able redeem 1,000 points for a $10 savings which is your typical 1% return if you don't include any bonuses. Find out more here.

It looks like Toronto will once again have direct service to Russia after losing Aeroflot. Transaero, another large Russian carrier will begin 1x weekly service between Toronto and Moscow on December 19th. Transaero has their own frequent flyer program called Privilege and they are not part of any airline alliance (their FFP actually has no airline partners) (Source Airlineroute.net).

If you purchase $500 or more of Air Canada gift cards by December 1st you receive a promo code for 10% off a future Air Canada flight. The 10% promotional code is valid for flight bookings made by December 9, 2014, for travel between January 10, 2015 and June 17, 2015. airberlin: 1,000 Free topbonus Miles for registering for the frequent renter offer from Sixt returns!

Today we see the return of a free miles offer we saw earlier this year (see our post from July) Sixt is offering members of airberlin's topbonus program 1,000 free miles simply for registering on their site for a frequent renter offer from them.

When I signed up for the offer in July we did actually receive the miles, unlike the similar Miles&More offer which seems many people did not receive their miles.

To earn the 1,000 bonus topbonus miles simply register online by December 31st.


The registration also offer bonus miles on multiple Sixt rentals, if you complete 5+ rentals you'll earn 1,000 miles per rental, 10+ rentals earn 1,500 while 20+ earns 2,000. The latter two may be tough when the promotional period is only 38 days long.

How to earn even more Air Miles Reward Miles on your Safeway Gift Card purchases this week!
