How to earn even more Air Miles Reward Miles on your Safeway Gift Card purchases this week!

Last week we let you know about a great deal to earn bonus Air Miles at Safeway for buying Gift Cards. The bonus is 55 bonus miles for each $50 Gift Card you buy for select merchants. I won't go into more details about those as you can read all about it in the actual post (and print the coupons).

Now the latest email has an offer that if you use an American Express Air Miles card at Safeway this week you can earn 75 bonus Air Miles when you spend $75 or more in one transaction. So if you just buy two gift cards for $100 you'll come out with 185 Bonus Air Miles on top of the Air Miles you'd normally earn on one of those American Express Air Miles cards. This offers runs during the exact same time period as the Gift Card offer. Happy bonusing everyone!

These are the terms and conditions of the offer:
Offer valid from November 21 to November 27, 2014 at participating Safeway locations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and including the following stores in British Columbia: Cranbrook at 1200 Baker Street, Dawson Creek at 11200, 11216 - 8 Street, and Fort St. John at 9123 - 100 Street. Noticed this last week on the $200 weekly promotion and thought it looked juicy. Then they did the same promotion again this past weekend on the $75 as you note. Any thoughts on whether this will be a recurring promotion with Sobeys taking the keys now, or if this is just bait to try and get us to sign up for another Amex card? Well I took the bait...why not...if I can nearly double up my weekly Airmiles with this promo going forward it would radically alter my credit card portfolio and keep my 4% yield Scotia AMEX in my wallet at the grocery store, as this pushes return over 10% by my math for the value of an Airmile, assuming max spending effeciency which granted isn't always easy. This just seems too good be true...

  2. I think it is that time of the season. Retailers know people are spending more for the holidays and they want to persuade you to shop with them. It's all volume based to offer the 75 Air Miles via the Amex offer they are banking on those spenders who won't spend only $75 to get the miles but those who will spend $200, $300 etc. As to the gift card offer that's another story but again it would be considered a loss leader, get you in the store to buy other stuff and hope only a few people, including myself, only go in to buy gift cards.
