900 Free Alitalia MilleMiglia miles for joining Maggiore Club

Maggiore, the largest independently owned car rental agency in Italy is offering members of Alitalia's MilleMiglia program 900 miles just for joining their frequent renter program Maggiore Club. Joining is free which means the 900 miles are free as well. To ensure you get the miles you have to input your MilleMiglia number at the time of registration. Here is a screen shot of the first page of the registration showing you where you need to input your number.

The entire registration process is in Italian so we suggest you open up a second window and use Google Translate to help you along with the registration. For the box titled "N° Patente italiana:*" use your own Driver's Licence number even if it isn't Italian. It accepted my Alberta number no problem.

50% Transfer Bonus for RBC Rewards (Avion only) to British Airways Executive Club is back until June 30

I am happy to let you all of you RBC Avion cardholders (Infinite and Platinum) that the much coveted 50% transfer bonus for RBC Rewards points to British Airways Executive Club Avios is back! The promotion will runs from today to June 30th so now is the time to ramp up your spending if you have been planning to take advantage of this great transfer bonus! As always BA Avios are a great option for flights to Asia (via Cathay Pacific), short to medium haul within North America (Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, US Airways see this post here) and even though huge surcharges are added to their UK/Europe redemptions they can still be an alright value because of this bonus transfer based on your spend with the credit card (see my post about Earn & Burn for an explanation). As always though with any frequent flyer program you will have to be flexible in your options when redeeming due to seat availability issues (ie it may be hard to get tickets to Europe in Summer etc.) so take this into consideration before transferring.

Apr 30 Update: Alberta to ban points/miles on prescriptions, latest set of Aeroplan Distinction flights, tons of new bonuses

While we were on vacation last week we missed this important development right here in Alberta. It appears that the Alberta College of Pharmacists has followed British Columbia and Ontario's lead in banning the awarding of loyalty points/miles on prescriptions. This change is due to take effect on May 1st.You may recall from a few months ago we provided lots of coverage of the B.C. issue thanks to our reader Randy out of Victoria and now it is happening right here in the home province of Rewards Canada. The biggest hit that we see is the Safeway/Air Miles partnership as it is a huge draw to using Safeway pharmacies and as such there is a big push from the two (plus Sobey's) to have this decision reversed. There is an online petition which at the time of posting already had over 22,000 Albertans voicing their opinion. I haven't seen any communications from Rexall (Aeroplan), Sobey's (Club Sobey's/Aeroplan),  Shoppers Drug Mart (Optimum) or others yet but at least with Shoppers there is a work around as they award Optimum Points on buying Shoppers Gift Cards which can then be used for the prescription purchase. Perhaps for the time being Safeway should do the same, award Air Miles for Safeway GCs!  I also encourage our readers in Alberta to go and sign the petition at http://iearneditpetition.ca/

Aeroplan has released their next set of Distinction Flights. These are flights that only Aeroplan Distinction members can redeem for. The first batch of flights were in March for destinations in the U.S. and Mexico while this newest set is for flights within Canada. Here are the flight dates and times. Air France KLM Flying Blue Promo Awards - Save 25% on award tickets between Toronto/Montreal & Europe for summer travel

The latest set of Air France KLM Flying Blue Promo Awards are out and this time there are two Canadian cities included. The past few Promo Awards have not seen any of our cities included so this is a nice change! The latest set of offers will be bookable as of May 1st and are good for award travel over the summer in July and August!  The offers this time are for 25% off Business Class between Toronto or Montreal and Europe. This could end up being a great deal considering this is for award travel during peak season when other airlines will be typically charging higher amounts of miles if they have the availability.  Don't have the miles? You could always consider transferring Starpoints earned via the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express to Flying Blue.

What are the promo awards? The promo awards are a discount of 25-50% off the regular Flying Blue mileage requirement for select AF KLM flights in select cabins.  Due to increases in the regular award mileage requirements last year the promo awards not as grand as they used to be but overall are they are still considered a great deal when compared to the regular mileage requirements. With the 25% this time the rates are still slight higher than Aeroplan's 90,000 miles for a ClassicFlight Business Class ticket to Europe. To take advantage of this deal you must book your promo award ticket between May 1 and May 31  for travel between July 1 and August 21. More details can be found here.

Some of the U.S. Frequent Flyer blogs are encouraging you to book US Airways Dividend Miles award tickets for travel on British Airways sooner than later as word is getting out that US Airways is not charging the fuel surcharges that they are supposed to be charging for. This is a really good way to save hundreds if not thousands of dollars on travel to London. So if you can now is time to book some BA travel via USDM! If you don't have enough miles you can always buy miles with the up to 100% bonus that starts up again on May 3rd (see below) HT View From the Wing, One Mile at a Time

We had an email this morning from Points.com letting us know that the US Airways promo of up to a 100% bonus when buying miles will return on May 3rd and last until May 25. If you are not a USDM member join now as you usually have to be a member for 12 days before you can buy miles (and then use them for the above offer!)

Hyatt has launched another round of stay bonuses for select Hyatt Gold Passport airline partners. The offer is the same across all the airlines that are participating and that offer is triple miles per stay after your second stay at any Hyatt Hotel Worldwide from May 1st to August 31st. The bonus can be earned on every stay from you second right up to you fifteenth stay.

Transfer points to Aeroplan to earn up to 25,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles

Aeroplan has once again brought back their partner transfer bonus that we saw in November 2013 April 2013,  November 2012 and so on. Basically what it entails is transferring points out of other select loyalty programs into your Aeroplan account. Just like in November, the offer is once again cumulative across all participating partners and the bonus maxes out at 25,000 miles again. (We haven't seen the 40,000 miles bonus since April of last year so it looks like it may have gone the way of the dodo bird...) and there are no financial partners involved this time as well, for Canadians that is, Americans get Diners Club Club Rewards in that category. Basically you can transfer from partners like Starwood, Hertz and more (see the last graphic) and as long as the total Aeroplan miles deposited from all of them reaches one of the bonus target levels you will be awarded the respective bonus miles.

And just like the last two versions of this offer, American Express Membership Rewards is unfortunately not included. so chances are I will not use the promo this time (again).

If you are a Starwood Preferred Guest collector you can really up the bonus by taking advantage of their 5,000 Mile bonus offer when you convert 20,000 Starpoints into Aeroplan. Which means in this promotion you can get 29,000 Aeroplan Miles for 20,000 Starpoints or if you transfer 20k four times, you'll get 125,000 Aeroplan Miles for 80,000 Starpoints. Of course I like to keep Starpoints for award nights or cash+points stays within the Starwood family but some of you may like this transfer option.

Air Canada is further delaying the launch of their 787 service! According to Airlineroute.net the service between Toronto and Zurich has now been pushed back another week to May 25th while Tel Aviv gets pushed back two weeks to July 15. The single day May 21st YYZ-YUL service remains unchanged. Hopefully those of you who have booked flights just to be on this plane are not affected or you can change your plans to fly on it still! We're still crossing our fingers AC sends one over to YYC in June for the new runway opening celebration!

Canada's Points.com has bought the often mentioned on our site PointsHound.com! The third party hotel booking site that awards miles and points on those hotel stays fits nicely into Points.com's portfolio. Congrat's to Pete Van Dorn at PointsHound.com for being able to divest this startup so soon!
