50% Transfer Bonus for RBC Rewards (Avion only) to British Airways Executive Club is back until June 30
I am happy to let you all of you RBC Avion cardholders (Infinite and
Platinum) that the much coveted 50% transfer bonus for RBC Rewards
points to British Airways Executive Club Avios is back! The
promotion will runs from today to June 30th so now is the time to ramp up
your spending if you have been planning to take advantage of this great
transfer bonus! As always BA Avios are a great option for flights to
Asia (via Cathay Pacific), short to medium haul within North America
(Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, US Airways see this post here) and even though huge surcharges are
added to their UK/Europe redemptions they can still be an alright value
because of this bonus transfer based on your spend with the credit card
(see my post about Earn & Burn for an explanation). As always though with any frequent flyer program you will have to be flexible in your options when redeeming due to seat availability issues (ie it may be hard to get tickets to Europe in Summer etc.) so take this into consideration before transferring.

So if I'm wanting to fly to Asia in the next couple of years, is converting some points to Avios pretty much a no brainer? Cheers
ReplyDeleteIf you have the Avion card then yes as the 50% bonus will get you flying on CX sooner.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes I have the avion card.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, RBC runs this promo twice a year so you may not want to rush to convert for an award that may be a few years away as Avios will expire after three years if I recall correctly and you never know when there maybe a devaluation of the program. If you were planning on travelling in the next 6-12 months I would convert now otherwise you may want to wait. The only problem with waiting would be RBC not running this promotion again but the chances of that happening are pretty low as the promo has been around for many years!
ReplyDeleteUltimately you have to use your discretion whether you want to convert now or later.
Um, Avios points do not expire as long as there is activity. For example, transfering points every bonus, is activity, heres the link: http://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/executive-club/collecting-avios/avios-expiry-rules
ReplyDeleteThat is correct, I was just going off the top of my head with the earlier
ReplyDeletecomment. Correct wording would be "Avios will expire If you don't have activity for 36 months"
Does anybody know when this promotion will be running again - or how to check if/when it will run?
ReplyDeleteIf history is any indicator it should start up on or about November 1st
ReplyDeleteI always convert points to Avios, business class Vancouver to JFK can be as low as $150 with 50,000 return and readily available. Also quoted Alaska air seattle to Honolulu for $25 (yes, twenty five) plus 25,000 points return. Limited availability on that route though and you have to phone in to BA rather than book online for Alaska air.
ReplyDeleteIs this offer going to come back for xmas season??
ReplyDeleteIt is back, see here http://blog.rewardscanada.ca/2014/10/50-transfer-bonus-for-rbc-rewards-avion.html
ReplyDeleteNice.. love it.
