SPG Targeted Offer: Free Night at a Cat 1-5 Hotel after completing 1 stay
Much like what we've seen before from SPG, there is another set of
targeted bonuses for select Starwood members. It has been awhile since I
have been personally been targeted but finally I was again. My offer
is complete one stay between August 1 and October 31 and get a free
night award at a Category 1-5 hotel that can be redeemed up to December
31st. I know in the past other members who were targeted got different
offers. So whether you got an email or you didn't yet but want to see if

SPG Fall Promotion: "Take Two" - Double Starpoints + 2,500 Bonus Starpoints for every 5 nights
Starwood Preferred Guest has released the details of their fall systemwide promotion called Take Two.
It mimics the Double Take promotion that just finished in that it
offers double Starpoints on all eligible stays at participating
properties. It looks like just over 1,000 properties have chosen to
participate which means 100+ properties chose not to.
Where this promotion differs from Double Take is the change from 'social media/mobile booking' bonuses to additional bonuses for the more nights you stay. SPG will award 2,500 bonus Starpoints for every five eligible nights up to 10,000 bonus Starpoints.
The promotion runs from September 1st to December 15th and will require registration. Registration is not open yet but stay tuned here on FFB as we will announce it once it is open. Complete details and a list of hotels not participating can be found here

A new month is upon us and of course that means lots of new promotions.
Two promos we keep seeing over and over are back and those are the buy

Many airlines offer buy miles bonuses and mores are not worth it unless you need to top off for an award or keep an account current but with the two best buy miles bonus offers back for August the questions should you take advantage of one or both them? For Avianca LifeMiles I would only if you plan on using the miles in the near future as they have been known to change redemption rates unannounced and then all of a sudden what was a good deal could turn bad. US Airways on the other hand can be held for longer as we won't see any changes to their redemptions as Dividend Miles will be absorbed by American's AAdvantage program if the AA/US merger is approved. If that happens then you will have a nice AAdvantage balance as those Dividend Miles should convert to AAdvantage when the program consolidate.
Air Canada will be launching two new routes which is always good as it means more options to earn and burn Aeroplan miles. The first is Toronto to Vail/Eagle Creek winter seasonal service that will run from mid-December to early April, obviously launched for the skiers and snowboarders while the other is for snowbirds, cruisers and sunbathers with a winter seasonal service between Halifax and Ft. Avianca LifeMiles: 100% Bonus on Buying Miles is back for August
Hot on the heels of the announcement of the US Airways Buy Miles promotion, Avianca LifeMiles has also brought back their 100% bonus on buying miles promotion. The offer runs until August 31 and unlike the tiered US Airways promotion the LifeMiles offer basically doubles any amount you buy up to 75,000 miles for a total of 150,000 miles (or 1.5 cents per mile). Remember you are only allowed to buy up to 150,000 miles in a calendar year.
Avianca is now a member of the Star Alliance. So while before I used to tout this offer as a way to get Lufthansa business class from North America to Europe for $1800, you can now use the miles on any Star Alliance airline. The program also offers one way rewards at exactly half the round trip cost and does not charge fuel surcharges on award tickets.
With business class tickets to Europe going for 105,000 miles and Asia for 125 - 130,000 miles you can travel 'luxuriously' for a lot less with this deal. What used to be a decent feature of LifeMiles is their Cash + Part Points option but that was recently devalued. This option only requires that you have 40% of the points for a reward (so buy 40% during this 100% bonus period) and then you can buy the rest of the miles (the other 60%) at about 1.56 cents per mile (used to be 1.25 cents!).
What's the catch? You had the have been a LifeMiles member as of Augsut1 to take advantage of it. If you are not, I would recommend joining anyways and wait for the next 100% bonus to appear.

US Airways: Up to 100% Bonus Dividend Miles when you buy/gift miles in August (not-targeted)
The non-targeted bonus for buying and/or gifting Dividend Miles is back and just like the May version it has varying bonus levels.
Of course buying at the highest level provides you with the biggest
bonus. Here are the bonus levels:
Buy 20,000 - 29,000 miles, get a 75% Bonus
Buy 30,000 - 50,000 miles, get a 100% Bonus
The promo allows you to buy up to 50,000 miles (so 100,000 in total with the bonus) at 3.5 cents per mile (effective rate is 1.75 cents per mile) plus taxes of $131.25 for total of $1881.25. Considering that can get you a business class ticket between North America and Europe or Asia that can cost a lot more than that, this is a good deal! Since US Airways allows 3 day holds on award tickets you can always find the award flights you want before you buy the miles and therefore you don't have dole out a hefty chunk of change just in case you cannot find availability for your preferred award flights.

Limited Time: TD Business Travel Visa Card sign up bonus increased to 50,000 points
The normal 30,000 point bonus for the TD Business Travel Visa Card has been increased to 50,000 points for new applications until September 13. That 50,000 points is equivalent to a $250 travel credit. The card carries a $149 annual fee so in the first year you end up $101 ahead with the card (and you could always cancel before renewal to stay ahead). The card earns points at the same rate as the TD First Class Infinite Visa (3 points/$ on all spending, 9 points/$ on Expedia for TD purchases) and carries the same redemption rate (10,000 points = $50 credit). Starwood Hotels has announced a new 'Luxury Privileges' program that offers special privileges and perks for booking participating hotels through select professional travel agents. For full details see this post on FlyerTalk
PointsHound the online hotel booking site that has been mentioned a few times here on Rewards Canada has lost United as mileage earning partner. It appears that United has taken a 'strategic interest' in RocketMiles, a competing site of PointsHound.com and has dropped Pointshound.com as a partner. Pointshound.com members who were chose United MileagePlus as their earning preference will have to choose a different program to place their miles into and as a goodwill gesture it looks like Pointshound is awarding those members with bonus points which can be claimed in the program of your choice on your next booking.
Meanwhile, their competitor RocketMiles has added a lot more cities to their service. They now offer miles on hotel bookings in over 150 cities around the sWorld. They have also added Etihad Guest as a mileage earning partner.
WestJet has announced new mainline and Encore routes that further expand their reach and of course provides WestJet Rewards members more flights to earn WestJet dollars on or more miles for American AAdvantage members. The new Encore routes are Regina-Winnipeg, Saskatoon-Winnipeg, Vancouver-Kamloops, Vancouver-Terrace while mainline sees a new Calgary-Miami route. PointsHound the online hotel booking site that has been mentioned a few times here on Rewards Canada has lost United as mileage earning partner. It appears that United has taken a 'strategic interest' in RocketMiles, a competing site of PointsHound.com and has dropped Pointshound.com as a partner. Pointshound.com members who were chose United MileagePlus as their earning preference will have to choose a different program to place their miles into and as a goodwill gesture it looks like Pointshound is awarding those members with bonus points which can be claimed in the program of your choice on your next booking.
Meanwhile, their competitor RocketMiles has added a lot more cities to their service. They now offer miles on hotel bookings in over 150 cities around the sWorld. They have also added Etihad Guest as a mileage earning partner.
WestJet has announced new mainline and Encore routes that further expand their reach and of course provides WestJet Rewards members more flights to earn WestJet dollars on or more miles for American AAdvantage members. The new Encore routes are Regina-Winnipeg, Saskatoon-Winnipeg, Vancouver-Kamloops, Vancouver-Terrace while mainline sees a new Calgary-Miami route. Hello Canada! We are back from nearly 3 weeks in Hawaii! It was great
to relax, refresh and recharge. Now things will get back into full swing
here at Rewards Canada and the FFB Group. We did manage a couple of

United MileagePlus and Marriott Rewards have launched a new partnership called RewardsPlus. This is the second major airline-hotel enhanced partnership to come out in 2013 with the first being Crossover Rewards from Delta and Starwood. Here are the basics of the partnership as pulled from United:
(United) Premier Gold, Premier Platinum, Premier 1K® and Global Services members can now register for RewardsPlus and enjoy complimentary Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status and benefits. Also, all Premier members will be able to convert MileagePlus award miles into Marriott Rewards points at an exceptional rate, and all MileagePlus members will be able to enjoy greater value when they convert Marriott Rewards points into MileagePlus miles.
As you can see if you hold Elite Status with United you can automatically get Gold Elite status with Marriott Rewards which is a great benefit. Also for United Elite members is the ability to convert MileagePlus miles into Marriott Rewards points which is a so-so benefit as the conversion ratio is 1 Mile = 1 Point and MileagePlus miles tend to be worth more than Marriott Rewards points. This is only a good benefit if you need to top off you Marriott account for a reward. Finally all MileagePlus members who register for RewardsPlus will be able to transfer Marriott Rewards points to MileagePlus miles for 20% less than previously required.
On Marriott's side, Marriott Rewards Platinum Elite and Platinum Premier Elite members who register for RewardsPlus will receive complimentary MileagePlus Premier Silver status.

Air Canada has announced a new Calgary to Red Deer service that will start on September 3rd utlizing an Air Georgian Beech 1900D. The three times daily service should prove interesting and many are wondering if it will last based on past airline failing. The one difference here is that is offers seemless connections to many Air Canada flights out of YYC whereas all the other airlines did not. With prices very similar or the same as flying out of Calgary, no Airport Improvement fee and free parking, this just may work and if not then at least while it is operating it can prove to be a good place for Calgarians and Central Albertans to add extra segments to a route if you are planning on qualifying for Aeroplan (or other Star Alliance Elite programs) Altitude status by segments. Last year I mentioned an offer to earn free Elite Status (Voyager) with the Langham Hotels 1865 program. Well thanks to Jeff K. trying it out again it appears it is still working (I signed up last week and it still worked for me using my TD First Class Visa Infinite card). As with many of these offers this may not last as long as they state in the terms and conditions so I would suggest you sign up sooner than later.
