Aeroplan eStore confirmed bonuses for Black Friday Cyber Monday - 5x for Amazon, 7x for Apple, 10x for Indigo

Continuing on our 'as we mentioned in our giveaway' post last week, the Aeroplan eStore Black Friday Cyber Monday deals are now available. These bonuses run until December 3 and we now know that the two most popular retailers, Amazon.ca and Apple, are 5x and 7x miles respectively. Unfortunately not the 10x miles some were hoping for but if you need and want to make your purchases now you should so that you can earn those bonuses.

Now, if 2018 is any indicator of what this year may be, you may want to hold off on Amazon purchases as last year in the middle of December the Aeroplan eStore did offer 10x miles (see our post from last year here) but there is no guarantee that it will happen this year. We can only hope it will!

35% Bonus Aeroplan Miles when you convert hotel loyalty program points is now live - Shangri-La is the star this time

Last week when we launched our contest to celebrate Aeroplan's Black Friday Cyber Monday offers, one of them we let you know about was the hotel transfer bonus.

As you can see the most popular hotel transfer partner, Marriott Bonvoy, is not included this time so this version of the transfer bonus is more about cleaning out accounts. If you have points in any of the above hotel programs that you know you will never use towards a free night award but are enough to be transferred to Aeroplan then this may be the time to do so. These transfer bonuses are a really good way to use up 'orphaned points'. This transfer bonus runs until December 3, 2019.

One program you may want to look at a little closer is Shangri-La's Golden Circle. If you have points in this program they are offering their own bonus incentive on converting points of 25%. That means Shangri-La will give you 25% bonus miles and then you'll get the 35% on top of that from Aeroplan. For example if you convert 5,000 Golden Circle Points to Aeroplan the transfer should look like this:
5,000 Golden Circle Points = 5,000 Aeroplan Miles but with Shangri-La's bonus that will become 6,250 Aeroplan Miles and then you'll get the 35% from Aeroplan for a final total of ~8,438 miles.

Amex Offers: 4 Bonus Points per dollar spent with Amazon for Black Friday Cyber Monday (5 points per dollar total)

Even more Amex Offers came out overnight and these are ones many of you have been waiting for! The offer is for the upcoming Black Friday Cyber Monday shopping weekend with Amazon and provides 4 bonus Membership Rewards points per dollar spent with Amazon.ca between November 29 - December 2, 2019. It appears to going out to most if not all American Express cardholders outside of Marriott Bonvoy since that card doesn't earn MR points! In our household we received it on the following cards:

 You'll have to access the offers via the Amex app or online web services after logging. It does also appear that emails are being sent out to cardmembers with a registration link. Initiate it via an online shopping mall like Aeroplan's eStore, airmilessshops.ca, Great Canadian Rebates or Rakuten! That way you'll earn even more points, miles or cash back on those Amazon purchases.

These are some really great ways to add more Aeroplan miles to your account. The up to 10x miles for online shopping is always an amazing way to rack up the miles fast.  How fast? Well here's an example of earning over 11,000 miles with only a 5x mile offer earlier in the year when we bought a Macbook Air from the Apple store:

The 35% bonus on hotel point conversions to Aeroplan may not include Marriott Bonvoy this time but it is always a good way to rid yourself of hotel points that may just be sitting in an account never to be used!

November 21 Update: New hotel openings in Canada, Amazon Mastercard added to comparison chart & more confirmed Amex multipliers

As you know, early in the year we have posts that highlight upcoming hotel openings for the year here in Canada. What we don't do so much is follow up when they actually open. Thanks to Canadian Lodging News we can let you know when some of these hotels actually open their doors. Here are some of the new hotels that have opened up for business over the past few weeks:

New increased sign up bonus of up to 30,000 points for the MBNA Rewards World Elite Mastercard

Earlier in the year we saw MBNA bump the welcome bonus for the MBNA Rewards World Elite Mastercard to 20,000 points. Now as of the start of this month they further increased it by another 10,000 points. If you can meet all the requirements, that is, spend $2,000 on the card and enroll in paperless statements you'll score 30,000 points worth $300 towards any travel.

You may recall these are the cards that underwent some changes earlier in the year and late last summer. The cards were very popular up until the middle of 2018 as the points there earned could be redeemed for travel or cash back at the same rate. Some of the value was eroded when the annual fee on the World Elite Version was bumped to $120 per year from $89. This was with no increase in benefits or sign up bonus. It was also announced at that time that the redemption rate for cash back was changing in February 2019 from 2% to about 1.67%. The good news was the redemption rate for travel did not change which means it is still a really good 2% return.

If really flexible travel rewards are key for you and you are not interested in cash back or a ton of extra benefits this is still a card to consider as you know no matter what or where you spend you are getting 2% back towards any travel.

November 20 Update: Scotia credit card updates, new Amex offer for mobile service providers, Aer Lingus cuts Montreal & 30% off Canadian North flights

Finally got around to updating the Scotiabank credit card offers as many were set to end on October 31. Most if not all offers have simply been extended as follows:

Yet another Amex offer has been released. This offer awards bonus Membership Rewards points for paying for mobile service provider costs (cell phone bill etc.) with your targeted American Express card. Personally I received it for the American Express Gold Rewards card. The offer? 1,000 Bonus Membership Rewards points when I make three $30 or more payments. That's 333 bonus points per $30. Not a huge offer but better than nothing! You can check to see if you got the offer via the Amex app or when logging into your account online.

Aer Lingus has apparently decided not to proceed with their planned Montreal-Dublin flight. It was supposed to initially launch this past summer but that was delayed to the summer 2020 season and now according to Business Traveller the route will not materialize.
