Hilton Honors Points Unlimited returns for 2019 - 2,000 bonus points per stay plus up to 10,000 bonus points between Jan 4 & May 5

Hilton Honors has sent out the details of their first major systemwide global promotion for 2019! It is the return of Points Unlimited and will award 2,000 bonus points per stay (that's a big bonus if it is only a one night stay!) and have modified the additional bonus of 10,000 points to be either a stay or night component You will receive 10,000 bonus points for every 5th stay or 10th night that you complete (whichever comes first) Registration is now open for this offer that will bonus stays from January 4th to May 5, 2019

BMO Rewards® Business Mastercard® - First Year Free, 35,000 bonus points and $100 Travel Credit (up to $470 value)

Yesterday BMO came out with some refreshed offers on two of their cards. The first is on the personal BMO World Elite Mastercard which we mentioned on our social media where the current sign up bonus of first year free and 35,000 bonus points remains but they have added in a $100 travel credit as well. We have this up on our main BMO page and blog post for the personal card will follow soon!

The second offer which we are covering here is an updated promotion for the BMO Rewards® Business Mastercard® . This is essentially the business version of the World Elite Mastercard minus some travel benefits (business class lounge access etc.) but it also now offers a $100 travel credit on top of the first year free and the 35,000 points sign up bonus. Right now this is one of the stronger business card welcome offers in the market. That means with this offer you are inline to score about $470 in value strictly for spending on the card. Remember though if you do plan on cancelling the card before you have to pay the annual fee in 12 months you'll want to use up your points beforehand.

A reminder here is how the points earn and burn format works with BMO Rewards® Business Mastercard® :

• 140 points = $1 of travel booked via BMO Rewards (Old rate was 100 points = $1)
• Earn 3 points per eligible dollar spent on gas, office supplies and cell phone/internet bill payments - giving a 2.14% return on those purchases.
• All other spending will continue to earns 1.5 points per dollar - giving a 1.07% return on those purchases

New WestJet video with Gerry Dee takes a stab at Air Canada and Aeroplan

Earlier this month WestJet Rewards released a video collaboration with Canadian comedian Gerry Dee about the uncertainty of airline travel reward programs:

While not specifically implied, you can tell they are taking a stab at Air Canada and Aeroplan and what is going to happen to the program come 2020. We all know Air Canada has bought Aeroplan from Aimia (while not entirely complete the deal should go through) and many people are wondering what is going to happen once Aeroplan gets folded into the new Air Canada loyalty program. Will there be a devaluation? Where will we be able to earn miles? How will you be able to redeem and so on. With that sentiment WestJet see these as an opportunity to promote the WestJet Rewards program.

Save up to 25% on Hilton stays in the Asia Pacific Region!

Hilton released one of their biggest APAC sales today to close out the year! Honors members will be able to save up to 25% on stays across the entire region when you book by February 2, 2019. The offer for non-members is only up to 15% off so it really makes sense to join Honors to get the additional discount seeing that it costs nothing to join the program.

Stays must be booked by February 2, 2019 for stays until September 30,  2019. Remember that you should also be earning up to Triple Points on these stays with the current fall Hilton Honors promotion that runs until January 3. Find that and all other Honors bonuses here.

The regular earn rate is 1 mile per dollar so that means you will earn 10 Aeroplan Miles per dollar. So if you make your Amazon.ca purchases via the Aeroplan eStore and pay for it on your Cobalt card you should be earning a minimum of 14 Aeroplan Miles per dollar for  the first $1,000 spent!

Marriott Rewards Update: Category 8 hotels will go into effect March 2019

Marriott's PR team reached out to us with an update to the combined Marriott / SPG / Ritz-Carlton loyalty program to pass along to the Rewards Canada Community. The big takeaway is the time when the new more expensive Category 8 hotel redemption takes effect. It was assumed it would be January 1, 2019 based on prior communication but we now know that it won't happen until sometime in March 2019. This is great news as it gives you more time to book those future Category 8 hotels at Category 7 prices until at least February 28! This means hotels that will cost 85,000 points per night come March will still be able to be booked for only 60,000 points per night.

Here is the communication we received from Marriott

• Combine accounts: As a reminder, members are encouraged to combine accounts by December 31 to potentially achieve a higher Elite status this year. While some members might have delayed combining to earn two years toward lifetime this year, please note there is no advantage to maintaining two accounts after 2018 ends. Combine Accounts
• Update email addresses on separate accounts: If members have the same email address on two separate accounts, and do not wish to combine, they should change the email address on one of the accounts. An email address can only be associated with ONE account by the time we launch the new brand in 2019. We will notify impacted members that this needs to occur, and if they do not either combine accounts or change an email address, we will remove the email address associated with the less active account from the profile. This process will occur on a rolling basis starting January 7. After this occurs, the member will still be able to access the less active account by using their member number and password (not email address.) Please note, this account maintenance has been standard practice for members with multiple Marriott Rewards accounts since 2015 and multiple SPG accounts since 2017. Account balances, Elite night credits and any activity in members’ accounts will remain the same. Update Account > 
• Category 8: Category 8 redemption rates go into effect in March 2019 along with the annual category changes. If members wish to lock in redemption pricing for a current Category 7 hotel moving into Category 8, we encourage them to book now. Explore Redemption Rates 

Be sure to follow steps one and two as soon as you can and of course book any potential Category 8 hotels between now and March 2019!!

American Express Cobalt: Earn 10x Points for Amazon.ca purchases made December 17-19

Yet another great offer for the American Express Cobalt Card! Starting on Monday and going through to Wednesday you will be able to earn 10x Membership Rewards Points per dollar spent at Amazon.ca. The bonus is good for the first $1,000 of purchases, once you hit $1,000 any spending above that will revert back to 1 point per dollar spent.  This 10x points is the equivalent of a 10% return when redeeming for travel or a 7% return (think cash back) when redeeming points against any other purchases made on the card. Those points can also be converted to Marriott Rewards (10 Membership Rewards points = 12 Marriott Rewards points) which can then be converted to 40+ different airline programs including Aeroplan. The equivalent earn of the 10x points is 4 to 5 miles per dollar spent depending on how many Marriott Rewards points you convert to an airline.  

The crazy thing is you'll want to combine this with an offer that will be announced tomorrow! Stay tuned!

Give A Mile Flight Hero Christmas Campaign - Help a recipient visit their dad diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer

 We wanted to update the Rewards Canada community on our progress with this year's Give A Mile Flight Hero Campaign. As you all know we have worked closely with Give A Mile for several years now and we hold this charity close to our hearts. Every year as the Christmas season approaches Give A Miles launches their holiday campaign to boost donations to give flights of compassion to those who otherwise could not afford it.

When we kicked off the 2018 campaign we didn't have a specific flight of compassion assigned to us but Give A Mile has let us know we do have one now.

Here is a message from our campaign flight recipient:

My dad has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. I would be grateful for the opportunity to keep my promise to my dad. I know it would give him something to smile about and also I can be support to my mother who has had to bare this heavy weight for months. Thank you so much for your consideration. We believe in miracles and opportunity gives us some comfort and hope

Our goal as a 2018 Flight Hero is to reach donations of 100,000 Aeroplan Miles. We started the campaign off with a 50,000 mile donation from ourselves and our readers have kicked in an additional 5,500 miles plus some cash from Reason2Roam! Actually we'll make that 6,500 miles as one reader mentioned they donated 1,000 miles via the general link!

We are asking our readers to help us reach that goal of 100,000 miles! We only need 44,500 more miles. So whether it's 45 of you at 1,000 miles each or any other combination it doesn't matter! United Airlines will be adding Toronto to San Francisco to their route network as of March 31, 2019. The twice daily service will complement Air Canada's existing service between the two cities.
