Top 5 Credit Card Sign Up offers for November - up to $1,500 in travel rewards with these cards

Here are the Rewards Canada Top 5 Credit Card Sign Up offers for the month of November! This is not a 'best' credit card list like our Top Travel Rewards Credit Card rankings but instead a look at cards that have very good acquisition (sign up) offers. As always when choosing a card you should always take other factors into account other than the just sign up bonus, but when most or all of these cards are first year free, they can and do pay off even when you grab them strictly for the sign up rewards.  This month all five cards have no annual fee in the first year so you can try them out at no cost and decide later on if the card is right for you.

This month sees the return of the HSBC World Elite Mastercard and RBC Visa Infinite Avion first year free offers so they have come back to the list. This knocked the BMO Rewards Mastercard (No fee) off the list as well as the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express. Of note as well is a new offer on the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Card which sees a new sign up bonus of 20,000 points instead of 15,000 + $100 credit

Here are our top 5 credit card sign up offers for November  (in alphabetical order)

BMO AIR MILES World Elite Mastercard - 3,000 Miles  (Apply here)
The best ever sign up bonus for an AIR MILES co-branded card makes it back to our Top 5 sign up list thanks to its 3,000 miles sign up bonus (worth ~$300 or more) and no annual fee in the first year! Add in a free companion fare when you redeem for flights and the value jumps even higher. Even if you aren't a fan of AIR MILES the fact you can get 3,000 miles and them use them as cash rewards for no cost to you should be enough to go out and get this card. Please note: new Collectors have Miles automatically deposited into their Dream Account, not their Cash account.

BMO BMO Rewards World Elite Mastercard - 35,000 Points  (Apply here)
Revamped on January 15th with a reward program that is less rewarding on your day to day spend the card still returns to this list thanks to its sign bonus and first year free offer. The card offers a 35,000 point sign up bonus that is worth $250 in travel and since the card is first year free right now (they bill you $150 and then rebate after several months) that means your $250 in travel is free and yes you even get the LoungeKey access and 4 lounge passes included in that first year free.

CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite - 20,000 Points (Apply Here)
The CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite card see the return of their 20,000 Aventura Points sign up bonus worth up to $400 in travel depending on what type of flight you redeem for and since the annual fee of $120 (and supplementary cards are waived as well) is waived those 20,000 points come at no cost to you.

HSBC World Elite Mastercard - 75,000 points (Apply here)
Only gone of our list for one month this card returns with an even better sign up offer than before. Up to 75,000 points can be had as long as you can meet to somewhat steep spending requirement. That being said there's no annual fee in the first year and the card has a lot of other good benefits like no foreign transaction fees!  Those 75,000 points are worth $375 in travel rewards but those points can also be converted to British Airways Executive Club, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles or Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer.

RBC Visa Infinite Avion Card - 20,000 Points (Apply here)
Back on the list after the last offer ended in July.  Sure before it was 25,000 points but this new offer is still very good. Now it's 15,000 points + 5,000 more when you spend $1,000 in three months with no annual fee in the first year. Still a great offer even with the spend requirement and it still means you can get 20,000 RBC Rewards points at literally no cost to use towards flights via the RBC airline redemption program or convert to other programs like WestJet (it's 200 WestJet dollars!), British Airways or Cathay Pacific.

If you went for all these cards you ultimately could end up with nearly $1,500 in travel credits but even if you only take on one or two you are helping your travel budget significantly at no cost other than regular credit card spend

30% Bonus Aeroplan Miles when you convert hotel loyalty program points until December 3 - Marriott/SPG included this time!

We see the return of yet another Aeroplan conversion bonus! Last seen in August, the hotel only transfer bonus is back and once again it is a 30% bonus. You have the make sure that you transfer enough hotel points to earn 5,000 Aeroplan Miles to get the 30% bonus. You'll have until December 3 to make any transfers and the 5,000 miles can be cumulative from multiple hotel programs - this is a good way to use up some of those orphaned hotel points you may never use if you are a frequent Aeroplan redeemer.  The great news for the winter version of this bonus is the return of Marriott/Starwood/Ritz-Carlton to the mix of partners that count.  Marriott (and its subsidiaries) have the best transfer ratio to airline programs at a rate of 3 Marriott Rewards points to 1 airline mile but they also add in 5,000 more miles when you convert 60,000 points at a time. That means with this promotion 60,000 points transferred to Aeroplan will net you 32,500 miles (20,000 miles at 3:1 + 5,000 miles from Marriott + 30% bonus). The easiest way to earn Marriott points in Canada outside of actual hotel stays is with the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express which at the time of this post is offering 50,000 points as a welcome bonus. Now chances are you won't have the points post in time for this iteration of the Aeroplan transfer bonus but you can start banking on the Spring bonus (and it gives you time to reach 60,000 points so you can get that extra little bonus). This is also a good time to convert points from something like the Cobalt Card to Marriott to Aeroplan!

Most of Aeroplan's hotel partners are participating in the promotion so you can convert from any of the following to add to your final tally.

Hotel partner loyalty programs eligible for this promotion are: Marriott/Starwood/Ritz-Carlton, IHG Rewards Club, Best Western Rewards, Choice Privileges, Coast Rewards, Radisson Rewards, Hilton Honors, Le Club Accorhotels (Accor hotels), Golden Circle Award (Shangri‑La), Wyndham Rewards.

The total amount of miles received from the conversion of hotel loyalty program points into Aeroplan miles must be greater than or equal to 5,000 Aeroplan Miles in order to be eligible to receive the 30% bonus.

http://giveamile.org/flights/flight-hero-rewards-canada-2018/

Rewards Canada's charity partner Give A Mile has launched their annual Flight Hero Christmas Campaign. We have covered Give A Mile before on the blog but as a quick refresher here is what Give A Miles is all about:

Established in Calgary, Canada in February 2013, Give A Mile is dedicated to bringing together the terminally ill, or critically sick, with family members or close friends by crowdfunding airline flights through micro-donations of travel loyalty miles. We work across Canada. We are 100% donation model so all miles donated go to flights.  We are 100% volunteer team with a Big Hairy Audacious Goal of giving 1 billion miles to families that need these flights.  A federally registered not-for-profit agency in Canada, Give A Mile is recognized as a charity by Aeroplan’s Beyond Miles program, and offers tax receipts for money donations to donors through an agreement with the Place2Give Foundation.
For the 2018 Flight Hero Christmas Campaign Give A Mile's goals are to raise enough miles to provide 50 flights of compassion.

Rewards Canada has signed on to be a Flight Hero for the 2018 campaign and our Flight Hero goal is to raise 100,000 miles!

We are asking our readers to help us reach that goal! We've donated 50,000 Aeroplan Miles and would love to have our readers pitch in as well. Whether it's 50 of you at 1,000 miles each or any other combination it doesn't matter! Help us help Give A Mile and Canadians in dire circumstances the flights they need to visit their loved ones.

Donate today via Rewards Canada's Flight Hero Page on Give A Mile

To donate simply click the link above and then click on Donate to this Story

You'll go through a couple of steps and be able to choose which program to donate from and once your donation is complete the total should be updated on the Give A Mile site within a few minutes.

Finally we ask that you comment below after you donate! Don't be shy, let us and our readers know how much you donated and feel free to pass along any comments or well wishes to Give A Mile!

30% Transfer Bonus for RBC Rewards (Avion only) to British Airways Executive Club is back until December 31

Many of you have been asking when this bonus would return as you took advantage of that great RBC Avion card sign up offer we had featured on our site earlier this year (and the new one that just launched earlier this week) We are happy to let you know this much loved transfer bonus from RBC Rewards to British Airways Executive Club is back.  As we have now become accustomed to, the bonus offer is 30%. It really looks like 50% has gone the way of the dodo.

The offer is for all of you RBC Avion cardholders (Infinite, Infinite Privilege and Platinum) and runs until December 31. Despite the BA devaluations and only being 30%, this promotion is still a decent deal as BA Avios are a great option for flights to Asia (via Cathay Pacific), short to medium haul within North America  (short haul offer is great on Alaska Airlines or American Airlines see this post here) and even though huge surcharges are added to their UK/Europe redemptions they can still be an alright value because of this bonus based on your spend with the credit card (see my post about Earn & Burn for an explanation). As always though with any frequent flyer program you will have to be flexible in your options when redeeming due to seat availability issues (ie it may be hard to get tickets to Europe in Summer etc.) so take this into consideration before transferring.

Also consider reading our post on  How you can easily get a free flight between Toronto and Dublin, Ireland (pre taxes/fees) or 4 flights for $240+fees as this transfer bonus will work well with it. With the 30% you only have to transfer 20,000 RBC Rewards points to get to the 26,000 Avios level to redeem for these Dublin flights. Compare this to the 65,000 RBC Rewards points it would take to get the same flight and you can quickly see why there is value in the BA program. Heck if you have 65,000 RBC Rewards Points that's three flights to Dublin and back! Remember as well that Aer Lingus is launching Montreal-Dublin flights next year and those will start as low as 20,000 Avios round trip in Economy!

Full details on the transfer bonus can be found here

If you don't have the RBC Visa Infinite Avion card yet and this offer intrigues you there is this special offer on the card where you can get up to 20,000 RBC Rewards points and the first year annual fee waived. Here are the details:

American Express has taken a great step for their cards that offer insurance benefits! Now you can submit claims for some of the most commonly used coverages online. RBC Visa Infinite Avion - Up to 20,000 bonus RBC Rewards points and first year free!

On Jul  31st we saw the end of the last first year free offer for the RBC Visa Infinite Avion card, essentially it offered 25,000 points for free. That offer expired to be replaced by the standard card offer but now we have new bonus to let you know about! This time you can get 20,000 points and have the first year free but you'll have to put some spend on the card this time.  When approved you'll get 15,000 points then when you spend $1,000 on the card in the first three months you'll be awarded with 5,000 more points for 20,000 total - and the first year annual fee is waived. This is the same process as the June/July offer except it is 5,000 points less. Still to get 20,000 points for free is a great deal that is assuming the $1,000 in spending you put on the card is spending you would do otherwise. This is an easily achievable spend requirement only only $333.33 per month so if you missed out on the offer that ended in July this next one is as close as you'll get to it and is still really good to take advantage of.

Those 20,000 points will equate to 20,000 British Airways Avios at no cost (or more when they run their transfer bonuses)! Or 200 WestJet dollars at no cost and that doesn't even take into account the transfer bonuses they run occasionally throughout the year. And remember BA has household accounts so you and your spouse could each get the card then convert to BA and combine the Avios into one account for 40,000 or more Avios. Remember that you can get really cheap Avios redemptions to Dublin from Toronto and Montreal on Aer Lingus. There are just so many options here....

Here are some articles we have written to help you decide if this offer is for you!

  • Get 15,000 welcome points and earn 5,000 extra RBC Rewards Points with a minimum spend† Plus the 1st year annual fee waived upon approval†

WestJet adds new routes from Calgary to Atlanta and Toronto to Barcelona in 2019

WestJet is continuing their global expansion with the announcement of two new prominent routes today.

The first route between Calgary and Atlanta is sort of expected seeing that WestJet is forming a joint venture Delta Airlines. Atlanta being Delta's home provides a wealth of connections that WestJet and Delta flyers alike can take advantage of. The flights are slated to be year round starting with 6x weekly service starting on March 3, 2019 and moving to daily service on April 7.

WestJet is the only airline flying non-stop from Calgary to ATL, the world's largest airline hub – home of Delta Airlines, a WestJet codeshare partner since 2011. Together with Delta, via Hartsfield-Jacksonairport WestJet will offer codeshare access to an extensive list of U.S. destinations including the southeastern United States and Gulf Coast and cities such as Memphis, Tenn., Charleston, S.C., New Orleans, La., Savannah, Ga., Pensacola and Panama City, Fla.  (Source WestJet)
Calgary has not seen service to Atlanta since some short lived 1x weekly summer service that Delta Airlines provided a few years back.

The second route announced today comes as more of a surprise and further builds on WestJet's expanding services to Europe. WestJet will offer 3x weekly summer service between Toronto and Barcelona Spain starting on May 24. The service will operate with their Boeing 767s (which are being freed up thanks to the Boeing 787 coming in) until Oct 21.
