RBC Rewards Visa+ increased sign up bonus of 2,500 Points (up to a $25 value)

When launched in 2016 the entry level RBC Rewards+ Visa Card came out without a sign up bonus. Somewhat rare but not unheard of for an entry level no annual fee card. Now RBC appears to be on an acquisition campaign for the card as perhaps the card isn't meeting the expectations of sign ups as they have added a sign up bonus for the card. Right now you can get 2,500 RBC Rewards Points when you apply for and receive the card. Those points can then be redeemed for a $25 gift card or $25 toward travel. Those are your typical 100 points = $1 redemption options. There are many other redemption options but they go up in the number of points required per dollar. The card itself isn't a very strong option for rewards. 1% back essentially on Gast, Grocery & Drug Store purchases and 0.5% back everywhere else. It does have other bonus point options when you go digital such as 500 points for providing your email, 500 for receiving eStatements and so on, up to 3,500 more points.

RBC Rewards+ Visa Card
- Get 2,500 welcome points* on approval and a 1.9% intro rate for 10 months∆ on balance transfers and cash advances
- Earn 1 RBC Rewards® point for every $1 spent on gas, grocery and drug store purchases†
- Earn 1 RBC Rewards point for every $2 spent on all other purchases†
- Get up to 3,500 bonus RBC Rewards points for going digital±
-Only RBC Rewards+ TM Visa‡ cardholders can get the most popular $25 gift cards‡ at an exclusive redemption rate**

Looking for feedback on the SimplyCash Preferred Card from American Express

As many of you know,  the SimplyCash Preferred Card from American Express was revamped back at the start of April and it was a good revamp. Good enough to make the Top Cash Back Credit Card in Canada for 2017.  That being said, we are looking for your feedback on the card. What would you like to see happen with it? Are you happy with it how it is or could you envision even more changes?

Some ideas we have come up with are:
- higher initial sign up bonus, 5% back up to $400 or $500 instead of $300
- first year annual fee waiver so more people could try it out
- allow more access to the accumulated cash back, that is rather than just paying out in September, pay it out monthly or as the cardholder requests as long as the balance is $25 or more.

What do you think? If you have ideas, comments, criticisms etc. Please comment below!

July 5 Update: Entire list of Delta cities you can use WestJet dollars for, Air Canada Europe Sale, $30 Amazon Gift Card for Country Inn stays

News, Tips & Tricks
One of our Twitter followers asked if Melbourne was on the list of cities that you can now use your WestJet dollars for. The answer unfortunately is no for Melbourne. We did provide a list to him of all the cities you can use your WestJet dollars for that Delta operates to and want to share that list with all our readers:

Looks like Air Canada's Vancouver to Delhi is doing well as when the route returns for winter it is increasing to 4x weekly and even 5x weekly for December and January. (Source Routesonline)

Central Mountain Air is adding new flights between Prince George and Edmonton. Another route that can make sense to use proprietary credit card points. (Source Routesonline)

If you simply want the card to just get the 20,000 points for free, here's what you'll want to do. Get the card. Once the points are awarded book any travel, flights, hotel etc. via BMO Rewards and use your points towards that purchase. It can be over $200 but you'll just have to pay the difference. If it is a flight utilize your free lounge pass(es) that come with the card on the flights. Once you have used up the points and lounge passes you can go ahead and cancel the card before your first year card renewal as you'll have to pay the annual come that time. Also note that you'll lose your Priority Pass membership when you cancel the card. Be sure not to get a supplementary card as that will cost you $50 and eat away at the value you are getting for free with the card.

On the other hand if you are happy with the card you can continue on with it but we would only recommend doing that if you need and want the Priority Pass membership and 4 lounge passes. If you don't need those you are better off with a more flexible card, see our Credit Card Showdown!BMO World Elite Mastercard vs. Capital One® Aspire Travel™ World Elite Mastercard® for at least one example!

Earn Triple Miles for the first 6 months + 500 Bonus AIR MILES with the No Fee BMO AIR MILES MasterCard

Back in June we told you to hold off on applying for three cards as they would get better in July. One of those cards is the BMO AIR MILES Mastercard. This is the no annual fee version that for sometime now has had a sign up bonus of 500 AIR MILES. That bonus continues with the newest acquisition offer but on top of that they will offer you 3x miles on all purchases for the first six months. This means you'll earn 3 AIR MILES for every $20 you spend on the card. This is the strongest earn ever seen on an AIR MILES card regardless of whether it is a no fee card or the higher annual fee premium cards! If you are an AIR MILES collector this is something you'll want to look at even if it just having the card for those 6 months as it costs you nothing as it is a no annual fee card.

Air France KLM Flying Blue Promo Awards - Save 25% on award tickets between Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver & Europe

The newest set of Air France KLM's Promo Awards went live last Friday and for us Canadians this set has three cities for us! We haven't seen a Canadian city in the Promo Awards list since February so this is great news. With promo awards the discount ranges from 25 to 50% off the regular amount of miles required to redeem for these flights. As you can see just by the discount this can be a very good offer if you get 50% off for Business Class! However for us here in Canada we don't get any 50% offers once again but we do get 25% off which can definitely be utilized by some! While 25% isn't as good as 50% of course, it still is something to look at if you were planning travel in the first two months of the year.

Offer Details:
July Promo Awards - Save 20% to 50% on the Award Miles usually required for an award ticket. Destinations vary by each promotional period. Full Details Book by Jul 31  for travel Oct 1 - 31, 17

Here are the Canadian offers available for booking this month for travel in April & May:

Don't have all the miles? You could always consider transferring Starpoints earned via the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express to Flying Blue. The card has a 20,000 Starpoint bonus right now which translates to 25,000 Flying Blue miles! More than enough miles for a one way flight in Economy between Vancouver and Europe. You can add in even more miles with the Marriott Rewards Premier Visa card, its 30,000 point sign up bonus translates to 10,000 Starpoints which means another 10,000 Flying Blue miles. That's almost enough miles to do the round trip Vancouver-Europe flight.
