Hyatt Gold Passport: Triple Airline Miles for Hyatt stays this summer (8 Airlines participating)

Hyatt has launched another round of stay bonuses for select Hyatt Gold Passport airline partners. The offer is the same across all the airlines that are participating and that offer is triple miles per stay after your second stay at any Hyatt Hotel Worldwide from May 1st to August 31st. The bonus can be earned on every stay from you second right up to you fifteenth stay.

Each airline has its own registration page on the Hyatt website and at the time of posting these are the airlines that we are aware of participating in this Summer promotion (we will update this if and when more airline registration pages are released):

Transfer points to Aeroplan to earn up to 25,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles

Aeroplan has once again brought back their partner transfer bonus that we saw in November 2013 April 2013,  November 2012 and so on. Basically what it entails is transferring points out of other select loyalty programs into your Aeroplan account. Just like in November, the offer is once again cumulative across all participating partners and the bonus maxes out at 25,000 miles again. (We haven't seen the 40,000 miles bonus since April of last year so it looks like it may have gone the way of the dodo bird...) and there are no financial partners involved this time as well, for Canadians that is, Americans get Diners Club Club Rewards in that category. Basically you can transfer from partners like Starwood, Hertz and more (see the last graphic) and as long as the total Aeroplan miles deposited from all of them reaches one of the bonus target levels you will be awarded the respective bonus miles.

And just like the last two versions of this offer, American Express Membership Rewards is unfortunately not included. so chances are I will not use the promo this time (again).

If you are a Starwood Preferred Guest collector you can really up the bonus by taking advantage of their 5,000 Mile bonus offer when you convert 20,000 Starpoints into Aeroplan. Which means in this promotion you can get 29,000 Aeroplan Miles for 20,000 Starpoints or if you transfer 20k four times, you'll get 125,000 Aeroplan Miles for 80,000 Starpoints. Of course I like to keep Starpoints for award nights or cash+points stays within the Starwood family but some of you may like this transfer option.

Air Canada is further delaying the launch of their 787 service! According to Airlineroute.net the service between Toronto and Zurich has now been pushed back another week to May 25th while Tel Aviv gets pushed back two weeks to July 15. The single day May 21st YYZ-YUL service remains unchanged. Hopefully those of you who have booked flights just to be on this plane are not affected or you can change your plans to fly on it still! We're still crossing our fingers AC sends one over to YYC in June for the new runway opening celebration!

Canada's Points.com has bought the often mentioned on our site PointsHound.com! The third party hotel booking site that awards miles and points on those hotel stays fits nicely into Points.com's portfolio. Congrat's to Pete Van Dorn at PointsHound.com for being able to divest this startup so soon!

Still playing catch up here on bonuses that came out last week during our vacation. Hilton HHonors: Double Points or Airline Miles for stays at participating locations Worldwide

It has been 10 days since our last post on the Rewards Canada blog and update on the main Rewards Canada site. Why? We were on vacation. Simple as that. Now that we are back it is time to play catch up on the past week or so of news, bonuses and more! some of the information we'll be bringing to you over the next few days you may already be aware of but as usual there will be some of it that you have not seen yet.

We start it off with Hilton HHonors next systemwide promotion which is nice and simple. Double HHonors points or Double Airline Miles on all your eligible stays at participating Hilton locations Worldwide. We bold 'participating' as once again there is a large list of hotels not participating, approximately ~600 or so, most of which are in the U.S.. Once you pick double points or double miles there is no switching. For us Double Points makes more sense but if you may only have one or  two Hilton stays during the promotional period, Double Miles may make more sense to pad your FFP account rather than having stray points sit dormant in your HHonors account.

Starwood Hotels: Earn up to Triple Starpoints with Earn Away Get Away (Valid for stays May 1 - Jul 31)

With a little under two weeks left in earning bonus points from Starwood's Bring on the Nights promotion they have released the details of their spring and summer promotion! Called Earn Away Get Away the offer is open for registration right away (unlike the past few promos where they tease us first) and that registration must be done by June 30 for stays between May 1 and July 31. The offer is for Double Starpoints on all stays at participating locations worldwide but if you include a Sunday night (Saturday night in the Middle East) your points are tripled. Hot off the presses at Aeroplan is this new Air Canada flight bonus offer.  As it the case with all of the Air Canada flight bonuses now, if you booked tickets for these flights prior to today you are not eligible to earn the bonus.

Why you should consider crediting your Avis rentals to SAS EuroBonus

A few weeks ago (or was it even last week?) we passed along the news that SAS EuroBonus will now award 1,000 points for any eligible Avis rental that is booked through their page on the Avis World website at avisworld.com/eurobonus

Why is this significant? 1,000 points for a rental may not seem a lot but when you compare it to many other programs it actually is especially when looking a rentals of 1 day or less. Aeroplan only offers 500 miles per Avis rental excluding any bonuses and many U.S. programs offer 50 miles per day excluding bonuses. Some programs award varying levels of points per day so that is why this SAS EuroBonus tactic should really only be looked at for one day rentals.

When looking at our home grown program, Aeroplan, it would take you 50 Avis rentals to get enough Aeroplan miles for an economy class award ticket within North America. With SAS EuroBonus their old earn rate prior to April 1st was also 500 points but now that it has been doubled, you can get enough SAS EuroBonus points for a round trip economy class award ticket in North America with only 25 Avis rentals and this is why you should consider moving your 1 day or less Avis rentals to SAS EuroBonus. Of course bonus offers may change this value proposition but most of the time those bonus offers require rentals of multiple days.

Although we haven't wrote about before here on Rewards Canada, you should do the same for one day or less Hertz or Alamo rentals by crediting those to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club as you'll earn 1,000 miles for any eligible rental with those two companies. This is also valuable as Flying Club miles can be converted to Hilton HHonors points if you never for see redeeming miles via Flying Club for flights.

But what about consolidating all your points into you main account you may ask? While I still tend to preach about focusing on one program a person should also look at how quickly you can be rewarded. If you are planning 25 Avis rentals this year and know you'll be 12,500 miles short of an award with Aeroplan than you should probably credit those to Aeroplan but if you have no award flights planned or just wing it when it comes to that department you are better off crediting to EuroBonus and getting a free round trip award flight vs. a one way award flight.

I'm have to pass along an apology! I didn't follow my own rules that I preach about making sure you read all emails you get from various loyalty programs and not deleting them or ignoring them. Well I did the latter! After seeing this bonus make its way out on several blogs I wondered why I had not received notice on it. Well in fact I did, going through my emails there it was, sent on April 8th! Mind you the subject was a bit ambiguous "Limited Time Spring Offer" but that is no excuse.
