"I need your help.  I can't get either Thrifty Foods or Aeroplan to tell us if the daily shopping at Thrifty Foods would give us distinction points with Aeroplan."

Once again like yesterday when I read this I knew the answer would yes as I know that all my Sobey's transacations count and since Thrifty is part of Sobey's they should count as well. However I went right to Aeroplan to confirm and this was there response:
Yes, Thrifty Foods counts towards Distinction accumulation. All direct accumulation count towards Distinction status (i.e. when a member earns with a partner program and chooses to earn Aeroplan Miles rather than the other program currency – the miles count towards Distinction status)

6,500 Bonus Best Western Rewards on every stay until Oct 31 for bookings made TODAY

Best Western Rewards is celebrating their 25th Anniversary although the current name of the program has only been around a couple of years (It used to be known as Gold Crown Club) but the fact of the matter is they are rewarding members for making a booking today. You have to register first and that must be done by 5pm MST (so three hours from time of posting) and then you can book as many stays as you like before midnight MST tonight. The stays must be completed however by Oct 31. Each one of those stays will earn 6,500 Bonus Rewards Points.

Limited Time: RBC British Airways Visa Infinite Sign Up Bonus increased to 45,000 Avios

I said back in August that September would be big for changes and/or increased offerings in the ever competitive travel rewards credit card market in Canada and last week was a witness of that and this week the trend continues. The latest card to offer an increased bonus is the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite card.  The bonus is not as big as the 50,000 Avios seen last fall but that is because they have added a different perk this time. Normally the card only carries a 15,000 Avios bonus for being approved for the card but now you'll get that bonus plus 30,000 more Avios if you spend $3,000 in each of month of your first three months of cardmembership ($9,000 spend total). To take advantage of this increased bonus you must apply for the card by Nov 30, 13. You can do so here. If you are seriously considering this card I would apply for it sooner than later so that you can make the most of the additional perk being offered with the card.

The additional perk this time to make up for the 5,000 Avios difference in the sign bonus from last fall to this fall is that RBC will award you with 2x Avios when you make grocery store and gasoline purchases with your card:

Starting with transactions posted to your October 2013 monthly statement and up to your December 2013 monthly statement, you will earn double the Avios you normally earn for every $1 in purchases when you use your RBC British Airways Visa Infinite card to pay for purchases made at merchants classified by Visa’s “Merchant Category Codes” as “grocery stores and supermarkets” (MCC 5411), “Service Stations” (MCC 5541) and “Automated Fuel Dispensers” (MCC 5542). After your December 2013 monthly statement, your earn rate will return to the standard earn rate.

What can you get for 45,000 Avios? A round-trip economy class flight to England on British Airways (+taxes/fees) from Eastern Canada or 10 one way trips between Toronto and New York (+taxes/fees). There many other options as well including upgrading paid tickets to the next higher category on BA flights (i.e. Economy to Economy Plus; Economy Plus to Business etc)

You may recall that yesterday we posted a couple of targeted Air Canada flight bonuses, well it turns out Aeroplan had incorrect terms and conditions on the systemwide bonus of up to 15,000 Bonus Aeroplan miles. British Airways Executive Club is introducing Lifetime Gold Elite status for members that have earned or will earn 35,000 life time tier points. Full details can be found here

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club has improved their award ticket cancellation policy. Previously you would forfeit 25% of the points if you cancelled 7+ days out and would lose all the miles if cancelled within 7 days of departure. Now the rules state:

 If for any reason a flight reward is cancelled by the Member outside 24 hours of departure, 100% of the Miles will be re-credited to the member’s account. A cancellation fee of £30 for changes to flights originating in the UK, US$50 for changes to flights originating in the US or local currency equivalent of US$50 for changes to flights originating in any other region will apply. If for any reason a flight reward is cancelled within 24 hours prior to departure, no Miles will be refunded and no fee will be charged. If you change the original travel date (within 24 hours of departure) and later decide to cancel your flights, you will forfeit the mileage used for the reward. Once travel has commenced Miles cannot be refunded. Except as expressly stated in these Flying Club Terms, Miles are not refundable and changes or revalidation are not permitted in case of no-show.

Unlike the Double Miles for flights to China promotion posted earlier, I did not get an email for this one but it was listed in the 'more offers' list after I did register for China promotion:

Earn up to 15,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles when you fly with Air Canada, Air Canada Express and Air Canada rouge to over 175 destinations. Simply, register, book and fly.

Here is how your bonus miles add up:

• Fly 12 flight segments and earn 3,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles
• Fly 25 flight segments and earn 15,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles
