Canadian Tire announced today that they are entering the digital age with their Canadian Tire Money program. Here is an excerpt from the press release:

Today, Canadian Tire announced the evolution of its much beloved loyalty platform, introducing My Canadian Tire 'Money'™, an easier way to collect and redeem Canadian Tire 'Money'. The program will launch in Nova Scotia on October 10 and to customers nationally on October 28, 2014. The digital rewards program will complement paper Canadian Tire 'Money', which will remain in circulation.

My Canadian Tire 'Money' combines the best attributes of Canadian Tire's paper 'Money' with the benefits of a digital rewards program, making it easier and faster for customers to collect, and redeem. Members can collect e-Canadian Tire 'Money' on qualifying purchases at Canadian Tire stores, at canadiantire.ca and at participating Canadian Tire gas bar locations. e-Canadian Tire 'Money' can also be redeemed for merchandise and gift cards or donated to Canadian Tire's Jumpstart charity. Customers can also collect and redeem e-Canadian Tire 'Money' on automotive services, a benefit to the updated program.

Love to hear your thoughts on this addition to the program. I know for me I stopped using Canadian Tire money long ago as I got a bigger reward using my travel rewards credit cards for CT purchases rather than cash or debit to earn the CT Money. I don't think these changes will affect how I shop at Canadian Tire nor how I pay for my CT purchases.

We are seeing lots of individualized airline stay bonuses from Hilton for the late summer and fall. Each seems to be regionally targetted to that airline program's members and such is the case with this Aeroplan offer as the bonus is only for stays in Canada. The offers also seems to be targeting the general Aeroplan membership base rather than frequent travellers as the bonus is for weekend stays.
On word of caution is that there are 24 hotels not participating which we list below. Be sure to check that list before booking so you're not expeting to earn these bonus miles when you a book a hotel that isn't participating.

Two new Aeroplan hotel bonuses were added today. The first from Rocketmiles, is worth 3,000 bonus miles on one stay if you haven't booked via Rocketmiles before. This can be a great bonus especially for independent hotels or hotels like Delta Hotels where your mileage earning would be less than this. The other Aeroplan hotel bonus is from Hilton Hotels and is for weekend stays at their hotels across Canada. There are however 24 hotels not participating so be sure to check the terms and conditions before booking so you're not expecting to earn these bonus miles when you a book a hotel that isn't participating.

Starwood Hotels: Earn up to Triple Starpoints Worldwide with More For You (Valid for stays until Dec 15, 14)

Starwood Preferred Guest has released their fall systemwide promotion. Earning a bonus with this offer compared to Earn Away Get Away is tougher since the bonus is awarded on stays of 2 or more nights instead of just 1 night. Similar to Earn Away Get Away is the weekend bonus, during the previous promo it was Triple Starpoints if that stay included a Sunday night, this time it is triple if it includes a Friday or Saturday night (Thursday or Friday in the Middle East) More For You Away  is open for registration right away and that registration must be done by October 31st for stays until December 15th.  Once again the promotion does have a list of properties not participating and that list can be found here. There are four properties in Canada not participating Sheraton Laval Hotel, Sheraton on the Falls Hotel, the Westin Edmonton, and The Westin Prince, Toronto.

Miles & More Award Ticket Sale - Canada to Europe for only 55,000 Miles in Business Class in January

Miles & More has once again updated their discounted mileage awards "Meilenschnaeppchen". The last set had flights for travel in December from Toronto only while this set has Lufthansa flights from all three of their Canadian gateways: Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver to most of Europe for most of January 2015 in Business Class.

You can redeem Miles & More miles for round trip tickets all three cities and many great destinations in Europe for only 55,000 miles in Business Class.  This is nearly a 48% discount off the normal Business Class award ticket price of 105,000 miles.  Granted all these tickets will also have fuel surcharges but this is still a pretty good deal when you look at it as a whole in terms of miles+cash outlay.

Two bonus offers that you should check out in the Bonus Offers section are the Aeroplan bonus for donating to the Canadian Red Cross and the extension of WestJet's bonus for flights to/from Ft. McMurray.

The Aeroplan bonus is definitely one to look as your are earning miles for worthwhile cause, we've seen Red Cross bonus offers before from many U.S. program during some crisis or disasterous event in the world but not so much North of the border. Now this bonus isn't for a specific event but rather general donations to the Canadian Red Cross. The only thing if you choose to earn Aeroplan miles your donation is not eligible for tax donation receipt.

US Airways: Earn up to a 100% Bonus on buying Dividend Miles (Until Sep 30)

As we mentioned on Tuesday in our Bonus Offer Highlight post, the non-targeted bonus for buying and/or gifting Dividend Miles is back. Of course buying at the highest level provides you with the biggest bonus. Here are the bonus levels:

Buy 1,000 - 9,000 miles, get a 25% Bonus
Buy 10,000 - 19,000 miles, get  50% Bonus
Buy 20,000 - 29,000 miles, get a 75% Bonus
Buy 30,000 - 50,000 miles, get a 100% Bonus

The promo allows you to buy up to 50,000 miles (so 100,000 in total with the bonus) at 3.5 cents per mile (effective rate is 1.75 cents per mile) plus taxes of $131.25 for total of $1881.25. Considering that can get you a business class ticket between North America and Europe or Asia that can cost a lot more than that, this is a good deal!
