Earn an amazing 20,000 bonus Etihad Guest Miles on Avis Car Rentals

Etihad Guest Avis Bonus

A big car rental bonus is here! For the next three days you can book Avis car rentals that are credited to Etihad Guest and earn 20,000 bonus miles per rental! This is one of the biggest if not the biggest car rental offer we have ever seen. We’ll have to go back into our old posts to compare with some of those big SAS EuroBonus offers from the 2000s and 2010s. This offer needs to be booked by August 17 for rentals between September 1 and November 30 and awards 20,000 bonus Guest Miles for each 3 day rental of a Group C or higher car in the USA (excluding Alaska), Canada, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia

Guide to Canadian Credit Card Car Rental Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) Insurance

Today we published a new detailed guide for Canadian Credit Card Car Rental Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) Insurance on the main Rewards Canada website. This guide takes a deep dive into one of the most popular and widely used benefits provided on most premium and ultra premium credit cards. It is one of the few insurance benefits that actually has front end value as it can save cardholders significant amounts of money by not having to pay for the car rental company’s insurance. That value can grow exponentially should the renter damage their rental car in an accident or if the car is stolen. However there are steps renters should take to make sure they are properly covered and not violating the terms of their card’s insurance policy and that’s where Rewards Canada’s new guide comes in handy.

Hertz waiving young renter fees for those aged 18-24 on rentals in Canada and the U.S.

Similar to the Enterprise offer we posted about last week, Hertz is also waiving young renter fees on their car rentals. The Hertz offer seems a little better in that you don't have to present a student ID to have the fee waived, it is automatically waived if you fall into the 18-24 age category and book with CDP 117049 and PC Code 204991. This offer runs until May 31, 20

Find out more and book this offer here.

Here are the terms and conditions:

Offer applies to Economy car class and higher, excluding Dream, Prestige, and Adrenaline car classes. Offer valid at participating Hertz airport and neighborhood locations in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands. Offer does not apply to applicable taxes, fees, surcharges, refueling, or any optional product or service. This offer cannot be combined with any other discount or special rate and cannot be applied to a previous or existing reservation or rental. Offer is subject to vehicle availability at the time of booking. Renter and additional driver(s) must meet standard driver, credit, and rental requirements, except for the minimum age per this offer. Young renter fee will be removed at the counter. Hertz reserves the right to terminate the offer or change the terms at any time.

Enterprise Canada waiving young renter fees for Canadian post-secondary students

With our world turned upside down we are seeing many initiatives from companies to help consumers in these unprecedented times. From positive changes in policies to free products or services for healthcare workers we are seeing many of the world's best known corporations step up to the plate. I'm sure there's lots of this happening north of the border here in Canada but I just don't seem to be reading as much about it as I do for these nice acts south of the border.

This offer here from Enterprise is one of the first major ones I have seen being promoted here in Canada. They are waiving the fee normally charged to young renters until the end of May. Simply show your student ID at the time of rental and they'll take care of it.

Here are the complete details of the offer:

With colleges and universities announcing campus closures in response to coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns, Enterprise wants to make it easier for students to get home to their families by reducing the age minimum and waiving the young renter fees for rentals through 31 May, 2020.
  • Available to College Students 18 – 24 years of age
  • Valid for rentals of an economy through full size cars, minivans, small pick-up trucks and cargo vans
  • Offer valid at participating Canada locations only for car rentals reserved in advance.
  • Standard driver and credit requirements apply, except for the minimum car rental age per this offer
  • Official Student ID must be presented at the time of rental
  • Offer expires 31/5/2020

Why you need to be careful with rental car upgrades when using the CDW coverage from your credit card

If you recall we've had a couple posts surrounding one of my family's car rentals recently. More specifically the 10 day rental in Maui:

Everything was fine for us and as we mentioned in those posts we were upgraded from a Ford Explorer or equivalent to a Infiniti QX80 that was fully loaded. When I looked up what this car was worth it was in the $70,000 to $80,000 range. The rental was with Hertz as being Hertz Gold Plus Rewards members makes the pick up easy and fast as Maui usually has pretty long line up at all their car rental offices. Also being Hertz Gold Plus rewards means they have my credit card on file, the Diners Club Club Rewards MasterCard and that I decline all insurance coverage, primarily the CDW. However, CDW coverage varies by card and by issuer. So when I found out about the upgrade I wasn't concerned as Diners Club does not put a dollar limit on the car but they do exclude certain makes of cars. Here is Diners' coverage note:

Here are the exclusions:

However if I had used another card and got into an accident I could have been screwed as many issuers cap the limit of the value of a car to C$65,000. Here is the excerpt from all Visa's general coverage:
and BMO World Elite MasterCard's:

Consider this a reminder, a tip and/or a warning. If you are renting a car and you get upgraded (or even pay for a higher end car right off the bat) double check the coverage from your credit card to ensure you are covered for the type of vehicle you get. Even if you have your personal car insurance as back up, some of those also limit vehicles to $65,000, so double check that as well.  In the end you may just have to dish out the money to buy CDW from the car rental company if you want that Cadillac Escalade to drive a bride and groom around for their wedding!

airberlin: 1,000 Free topbonus Miles for registering for the frequent renter offer from Sixt

Similar to the Miles & More offer that we saw earlier this year, Sixt is offering members of airberlin's topbonus program 1,000 free miles simply for registering on their site for a frequent renter offer from them.

The sign up form is in German but is pretty easy to translate
Vorname=First Name,
Nachname=Surname,
topbonus nummer=topbonus number,
email-adresse=email address,
Sixt Card Nummer=Sixt Card Number (I don't have one and didn't fill in this box and it still let me register)
Sind Sie Sixt Neukunde?=Are you new Sixt customer

Finally be sure to check off the last box as that appears to be the key to earning the 1,000 miles. The miles should be awarded in 6-8 weeks

Register for the offer here.

Club Carlson - 8,750 Bonus Gold Points (9,000 total) for Budget rentals of 3+ days

One of the best car rental bonus point offers over the past few years that comes out once or twice per year (including right now) has been Club Carlson's offer of 8,250 Bonus Points (9,000 total points) for Avis rentals of 3+ days. That 9,000 points can easily be used for a free Club Carlson Award night and now the good news is that Club Carlson and Budget have released the same offer for Budget rentals. Previously the Budget offer wasn't as rich at 6,750 bonus points so the additional 1,500 points is a nice bonus on top of that bonus for the remainder of 2014. At this time there is no word if the same offer for Avis rentals will be extended beyond June 30th.

Offer Details
8,250 Bonus Gold Points and save up to 20% when you rent a Budget vehicle for 3 or more consecutive days at participating locations in the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. Simply use BCD #U106509 along with your Club Carlson member number to receive your discount and points when making your advance reservation online at Budget.com
