Back in March of this year news came out that WestJet had secured slots to serve London's Heathrow airport but at that time no news came out at all about the actual route starting. That all changes today as WestJet just announced service will start in spring of 2022 between Calgary and LHR! The service will be provided in addition to the existing Calgary, Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver to London Gatwick flights.
"As the airline with the most flights from Alberta, this is an important recovery milestone as we forge new connections between Canada and one of the world's most sought after global hubs," said John Weatherill, WestJet Chief Commercial Officer. "We continue to strengthen our network, offering more options for business and leisure travellers and these investments will expedite our industry's recovery while ensuring Western Canada builds back from the pandemic more connected than ever before."The flights will be operated with their Boeing 787 aircraft that feature business class with lie flat seats and premium economy and economy cabins. The press release from WestJet doesn't tell us anything else about the flights. They state the timetables, introductory pricing and actual sale of tickets will be revealed in the next few weeks.
