New Hyatt Hotel Openings in Canada for 2022 - Three hotels coming our way including the Hyatt Centric Ville-Marie Montreal

Welcome to the third part of our series on new hotel openings in Canada for 2022! In this part we take a look at Hyatt Hotels who planning on opening two new hotels in Montreal and one in Brampton, Ontario. So let's take a look at what they have in store for this year.

Out of the major hotel chains, Hyatt Hotels are  one of the smaller ones globally and their presence in Canada sees them currently operating 16 hotels here. This number has been changing relatively fast, it was only a couple of years ago when they only had four hotels across our country and over the next few years they are looking to further expand that number.

Comprised of 19 brands, Hyatt Hotels offers mid-range to ultra luxurious properties all around the world.  Here in Canada we currently have seven of their brands operating and will see the addition of a eighth when the first Hyatt Centric in Canada opens up this year.

Here are the three hotels planned for 2022 in order of their anticipated opening date.

Please note the slated opening dates are subject to change

Before we take a closer look at the three new hotels you may be asking "what about The Andaz Toronto?". Well, the Andaz Toronto, which was originally set to open in 2021 and then pushed back to 2022 now has its sights on opening in 2024.

Highlights

Hyatt Centric Ville-Marie Montreal

Here at Rewards Canada we'd say the most anticipated opening for Hyatt this is the Hyatt Centric Ville-Marie Montreal. The first Hyatt Centric in Canada, this hotel is a new build that is part of larger complex that will feature an urban campus, retail, office space, and apartments that surround and create a backdrop for the historic Place Gare Viger.

The hotel is centrally located in Old Montreal on Rue Notre Dame with many tourist spots and the University Du Quebec located within easy walking distance. It will feature 177 rooms with a roof top pool and bar, conference facilities, a fitness room, and restaurant.

Hyatt Place Montréal / Downtown

The Hyatt Place Montreal / Downtown isn't a new build but is a remodeling and renovation of the Hotel Place Dupuis. Like the Andaz and the Hyatt Place Brampton, this hotel was on our list of planned openings for 2021 but the pandemic pushed that back to this year. The 354 room hotel which includes 5 suites features an indoor pool, fitness centre and restaurant.

This is the only hotel of the three that is currently accepting reservations and received its World of Hyatt category assignment. It comes into the World of Hyatt program as a Category 3 hotel which means it will require 12,000 points per night for a standard room at the standard rate. Off Peak will be 9,000 points and Peak will run 15,000 points per night.

While the website states they are accepting reservations from June 19, 2022 the earliest Rewards Canada could find is July 3, 2022. That opening night sees rates starting at $339 plus taxes/fees and it appears closed off from points redemption. However from the next night on you can redeem points with July 4th being offered at the standard rate of 12,000 points:

This is an example of a good use of World of Hyatt points! To redeem 12,000 points for an all in room rate of $420.61 provides a 3.5 cents per point value. Considering we value World of Hyatt points at 2 cents each (this all in C$) you can see that at 3.5 cents you are getting a great return. This is even a case where you could use the current World of Hyatt buy points bonus to save you a little cash, not a lot but enough to be worthwhile. Right now you can buy World of Hyatt points with a 30% bonus until March 7 which means you could buy 10,000 points and receive 13,000 in total. That will set you back US$240 or about C$340 including taxes. Therefore you can technically save yourself about $80 over that $420 rate we provide as an example above and you would have 1,000 points leftover.

After the first few days of opening celebrations the rates drop to the mid $200s per night before taxes and fees. We checked out a weekend night in September that priced at $267 all in or you could redeem 12,000 points. That's a 2.2 cents per point valuation, still higher than our base valuation but not as significant as that opening week.

According the points calendar that has been published on Hyatt's site for this hotel, July and August see the 12,000 point standard rate available Sunday-Thursdays and 15,000 points for Friday and Saturdays. This flips come September when there are more 15,000 points nights during the week and weekends price out at 12,000 points.

Another new build for Hyatt, the Hyatt Place Brampton is the hotel we have the least details about. It is set to open this spring however it doesn't show on Hyatt's website just yet. We know it is located near the corner of Queen and Goreway and Hyatt provided the following details on this new location:

The 119-room hotel will offer a complimentary breakfast for guests, a pool, meeting space, complimentary WiFi, a 24/7 fitness center, and is expected to be adjacent to a proposed conference center.

While World of Hyatt does not have co-branded credit card here in Canada you can still maximize your points earning on your Hyatt stays by utilizing a credit card that has a travel accelerator like the HSBC World Elite® Mastercard® (6 points per dollar spent on travel) or the American Express Cobalt® Card (2 points per dollar spent on travel). You can also redeem those points earned against the hotel stay once the charge shows up on your credit card statement. All the while still earning your World of Hyatt points on the actual stay.   If you are someone who is into the U.S. credit card game, well then you can get yourself one of the U.S. Hyatt co-brand cards to avail of the points earning and additional benefits. You can learn more about those cards here.

Also remember to take advantage of all the possible World Of Hyatt bonus points offers if you plan on staying at any of these new Hyatt hotels or any other Hyatt hotels for that matter! There are always new hotel bonuses of 500 points per night that should become available once the hotels open up for reservations. We'll be sure to let you know about those offers when they are released and as always you can find all the promotions listed on our World Of Hyatt Bonus Points page.

Wrapping it up

In 2020 Hyatt came out with the news that they are planning to open nearly 200 more hotels in North America by 2022 and Canada had factored in with some decent numbers however as with almost  those numbers have been hampered by the pandemic. Hyatt had originally planned to have around 25 hotels in Canada by the end 2022 and they won't be too far from that with 19.  The next big push from Hyatt should come during 2023 and 2024 with hotels like the Andaz Toronto, Hyatt Regency Niagara Falls and Hyatt Place Niagara Falls opening up in that time period.

Are you excited about any of the new Hyatt hotels opening up this year? Are there any locations or brands you'd like to see in your neck of the woods? Let us know in the comments below.
