TARGETED: Receive a $100 Statement Credit when you spend $100 or more with Air Canada on your TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite card

FEBRUARY 26 UPDATE: Back to being targeted! Apparently the response below to Paul M on the TD Aeroplan Community has been updated saying it is for select cardholders only.

FEBRUARY 25 UPDATE: Apparently it is not targeted!!!!
Thanks to Paul M for sending this to us:
I contacted TD regarding the $100 statement credit offer if you spend 100 on an Air Canada flight.  They seem to indicate that it is not a targeted offer and is available to all primary card holders. See below.  The question and response is copied from the td aeroplan community website
Question: I found this promotion on a search but it is unclear whether it is available to all TD Aeroplan Visa infinite Card holders or alternately that it is a targeted promotion to some cardholders only. Can you let me know whether all card holders are eligible for this benefit? Receive a $100 statement credit: From January 8, 2015, to April 30, 2015 Receive a $100 credit on your credit card statement when you use your TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card to make a minimum $100 Air Canada purchase.
SabrinaTD Moderator:  Great question, paulme. It might seem too good to be true, but it's true! When you make an Air Canada purchase of at least $100 on a single transaction with your TD Aeroplan Credit Card between January 8 and April 30, 2015, you'll be eligible to receive a $100 statement credit. You must be the primary cardholder on the account to be eligible for this offer. The credit will appear on your account statement within ten weeks after your purchase.

JANUARY 20 UPDATE: Thanks to our reader Ron for doing some more digging on this promotion and finding out that it is a targeted offer. When we came across is on the Aeroplan site the T&Cs were vague and didn't mention anything about being exclusive, targeted or for the recipient of the email only. Ron reached out to Aeroplan and they sent him the full terms and this indeed is a targeted offer. If you did not receive the email there is a very high likelihood that you will NOT be eligible for this offer.

There is obviously a big push from TD happening right now to get more people to jump on their TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite card and as a consumer why wouldn't you?!? Right now it is being offered with its first year free so you have time to decide if you like the card and want to keep along with a sign up bonus of up to 25,000 bonus Aeroplan Miles. Now add this offer into the mix and you can see why maybe right now is a good time to get this card. The offer in question provides a $100 Statement credit when you make a minimum $100 Air Canada purchase. That $100 minimum purchase could be actual Air Canada flights, it could be baggage fees if you already have travel booked or it can even be Air Canada gift cards if you don't have any Air Canada travel planned. Essentially if you go with the last option you could just buy $100 Air Canada Gift Card and get it for free. Find out more about the $100 statement credit offer here.

If you don't have the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card yet you have until May 8th to get it with the First Year Free option and 25,000 Bonus Miles. Of course you'll want to get it even sooner for this $100 statement credit as that offer runs out on April 30. Find out more or apply for TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card here.

Technically speaking you can get the 25,000 Aeroplan Miles and $100 Air Canada Gift Card absolutely free! (other than the required credit card spend to get the bonus)

  1. Where does it say first year free?

  3. No, the credit card company wouldn't know that you are using a gift card to buy an Air Canada ticket. If the ticket is $600 and you have a $100 Gift Card all TD will know is that you had an Air Canada purchase for $500 and be unaware that you actually bought a $600 fare.

  4. Thanks for finding this info out Ron! We have updated the post to reflect that this offer is targeted.

I purchased a gift card last week :( I don't see where on the offer webpage in the T&C is said that it's for targeted members only? Should it be clearly stated in the terms and conditions?

  6. You could take a screenshot of the T&Cs on Aeroplan's site at http://www4.aeroplan.com/promotions/promotion_details.do?promotion=promo_WEBUP10000570_TD
and say to TD that the terms and conditions as seen on Aeroplan's site do not state it is exclusive or targeted so you thought it was open to anyone, made a $100 Air Canada purchase and would like the credit.

Here are screenshots just in case they get changed (programs have done so in the past)

Thanks, already saved a screenshot :) I was wondering if it's TD or Aeroplan I should contact?

  8. Contact TD as they are the ones who will see the purchase and issue the statement credit

  9. Thanks Patrick for your response.
I'm also grateful for your suggestion to buy a $100 gift card even if one doesn't have any travel plans.

  12. What if you got transferred to td from the cibc aeroplan visa?

  13. Yes it should have been stated clearly in the T&Cs. I would contact TD and tell them that this is the case and you would like the $100 credit

  14. I asked TD the same question that Ron posed to aeroplan. They had a different response. the following question and response is copied form the td aeroplan community discussion site and the response comes from the TD site moderator.

  15. I just booked a flight with my Aeroplan Visa Infinite card, then called TD to confirm I would receive $100 back. They gave me the runaround and denied the reward, giving me a measly 100 Aeroplan rewards instead. Complete B.S.!

  16. That is paltry amount worth no more than $2. The T&Cs still don't state targeted on the Aeroplan page so I would go back and tell them that. If the person you speak to doesn't want to help ask for a supervisor or politely thank them and call back to see if you get someone more sympathetic to help you.

  17. I called again today and was told by a cheerful TD customer service rep that I would indeed be receiving the credit automatically after 5 business days or so. Kinda funny how they are so inconsistently handling this promo.

Thanks James for the update. I'm going to try this week to get my credit for the gift card I purchased. Did you say something specific to be able to get the credit when they told you that you were not targeted by the offer>
