Air Canada Aeroplan adds yet another airline partner - you can now earn and redeem points on Gulf Air

Really Aeroplan? You can stop this now. Well, actually please don't but do know you are keeping us from completing other tasks with all the news you keep dishing out.  It hasn't even been 24 hours since the last big Aeroplan announcement of their 10x points offer for TD cardholders and now we have them adding yet one more airline to their partner list! As of today Aeroplan members will be able to earn and redeem Aeroplan points on Bahrain's Gulf Air. This is the eighth new airline Aeroplan has added to their partner roster since June 2020.

Gulf Air serves 55 cities in 30 countries with Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Airbus A320/A321 aircraft. All of their planes feature Falcon Gold Business Class with the 787 and A321 planes feature lie flat business class seats.

Being a full fledged Aeroplan partner means members will be able to earn and redeem Aeroplan points on Gulf Air and the earning and redemption will be as follows

Earning:

  • Members can earn Aeroplan points based on distance flown on all scheduled flights operated by Gulf Air.

Redeeming:

  • Flights will be priced based on Aeroplan’s pricing for partner airlines.
  • Members will be able to book Gulf Air flights online at aircanada.com, through the Air Canada mobile app, or via Aeroplan’s Contact Centre.
  • Flights can be combined with flights operated by Air Canada and our other international airline partners.
  • Gulf Air flights are eligible for redemption in Business and Economy classes.
  • The partner booking fee will apply for flight rewards which include travel on Gulf Air.

Bahrain falls into Aeroplan's Atlantic zone which covers The Middle East, Europe, Africa and India. These are the redemption rates for flights wholly within that zone (ie flying on Gulf Air's signature London to Bahrain route falls into 2,001 - 4,000)

Wrapping it up

Gulf Air will fill a niche spot in Air Canada's Aeroplan program and that's for flights between Europe and the Middle East and the Middle East and Asia. I feel they may become a popular option for those looking to build round the world itineraries as they do provide those ideal connections between Europe and Asia - and for some it will simply be a thrill to be able to fly on Gulf Air instead of Air Canada's well known partners for those connections.
