May 20 Update: Air Canada takes delivery of their 1st 787, IHG changes Pointbreaks & Last Minute Reward night rules

IHG Rewards Club has made some terms and conditions changes to their very popular Pointbreaks and Last Minute Reward Night award options. The new rules state that a member can only book up to 2 reward reservations per hotel participating in the individual offer (ie 2 at Pointbreaks hotels and 2 at Last Minute Reward Night hotels). What this means is that if you want to book a Pointbreaks offer at a hotel you can only have two reservation. No longer will you be able to grab 3, 5 or more reservations (one reservation per night) as some people did to make sure they got the nights at the low award price, plan a trip for some of those nights and then cancel the rest. This change is both good and bad. Good in that more members should be able to grab award nights at the lower levels but bad if you truly want to plan 3 or more trips at one location and have no plans on 'working' the system by cancelling some of those nights. My tip to get around this would be to book 2 reservations with one IHG Rewards Club account and then have your spouse book 2 more etc. Of course this is dependent on both accounts having enough points to redeem for these awards. In general we here at Rewards Canada think this is actually a good change! (Source Flyertalk)

Over the long weekend Air Canada finally took delivery of their first Boeing 787 Dreamliner! Airlineroute.net has the updated scheduled for the new plane with flights between YYZ and YHZ starting on Friday!

Choice Hotels Summer Promo: 8,000 Privileges Points after two separate stays

Choice Hotels Privileges is the next major hotel chain to release their summer systemwide promo and guess what? It's the same promo they run almost all the time!! They word the promotions differently in terms of get a free night, get a $50 gift card etc. however the gist of the promos are the same, they will ward you enough bonus points after you complete 2 separate stays to have 8,000 points after those stays. In this case it is the $50 Gift Card offer in that you can use those 8,000 points to redeem fir one by Sep 30. Your better option is to use those points towards a future award night or even conversion to an airline program to top off an account for an award ticket.

Best Western: Receive a Free Night Voucher after 3 separate Best Western stays

Best Western is moving straight from one systemwide promotion to another this month as the current $50 Travel Card offer ends on May 18th while the Free Night Voucher promotion marks its return on May 19th. Free nights are always a decent bonus option when considering a promotion to partake in if they are not limited in which category of hotels they can be redeemed at, however as with almost all Free Night promos, that free night has an expiry date which in this case is January 31st 2015. The voucher is also only redeemable in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean. Interesting to note that for the first time Best Western is implementing a cut off date for registration much like we see from Starwood and Marriott. Previous offers from Best Western allowed you to register right up to end of the actual promotional period.

2,500 Aeroplan Miles for test driving a Volvo has been extended to June 30th

A while ago we let you know how you could earn 3,500 Aeroplan Miles for test driving a Volvo. 2,500 of those miles was part of a promotion that was slated to end on April 30th and was limited to one vehicle. Now that promotion has been extended to June 30th and expanded to include a few more Volvo models, the Volvo S60, V60 or XC60. Combine this with the other Volvo test drive offer and you can still come away with at least 3,250 Aeroplan Miles by the end of August. Happy driving!

Both British Airways and American Airlines have come out with this offer for members of their respective programs. We usually see it in one form or another a few times per year. This version is for premium fare class travel (Full Fare Economy and up).
