Mar 5 Update: WestJet Carry On policy change, Free points from La Quinta, Buy Mileage Plan Miles bonus

WestJet is in the news once again, this time with a change to their carry-on bag policy. As of April 4 WestJet passengers will only be able to take 1 carry on and 1 personal item on board vs. the current 2 carry on and 1 personal item limit.While WestJet states the main reason for this is to provide everyone with enough space on the plane to place they carry ons and not to have to gate check items (if you have ever been the last one to board between YYC and YYZ I would totally agree with this) however the 'industry' side of me has me thinking this move is also being put in place to generate more revenue as travellers may now have to check two bags and of course only the first bag is free so travellers will be paying WestJet for that second bag.
