Aeroplan members can now earn points when flying on Air Mauritius

Back in December Air Canada's Aeroplan added two new airline partners, Oman Air and Air Mauritius. The latter started off as a redemption partner only but as of today Aeroplan members can now also earn Aeroplan points when flying on the national airline of Mauriitius. The airline flies to some major international hubs that Air Canada flies to such as London and Paris thus making connections to Mauritius that much easier and its great that you are now able to earn points in addition to redeeming them.

Earning Aeroplan Points on Air Mauritius

Aeroplan members will earn points based on the distance flown on all scheduled Air Mauritius flights. Like many of Aeroplan's non Star Alliance partners there is no elite status earning from Air Mauritius flights, strictly redeemable points. Here are the earn rates:

Like most of Aeroplan's partner airlines that you can earn points on the earn rate varies based on the fare class you buy. From 25% on the cheapest economy class to 125% for all business class fares. That percentage is then multiplied by the miles flown to determine how many points you actually earn.

Most likely you'd be purchasing your Air Mauritius flight with a connecting flight on Air Canada which means you could purchase it on AirCanada.com and earn your accelerated earn rate from cards like the American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card (3 points/$ with Air Canada) or the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card (2 points/$ with Air Canada)

AirCanada.com flights from Toronto to Mauritius includes Air Mauritius flights

You always have the choice of crediting the flights to Air Mauritius' own program Kestrelflyer but somehow I think 99.9% of our readers would credit to Aeroplan unless one of you are a frequent Air Mauritius flyer!

Redeeming Points on Air Mauritius

We did cover this back in December here but if you don't feel like going back to that post here are  redemption details for Air Mauritius

  • Flights will be priced based on Aeroplan’s pricing for partner airlines
  • Members will be able to book Air Mauritius flights online at aircanada.com, through the Air Canada mobile app, or via Aeroplan’s Contact Centre.
  • Flights can be combined with flights operated by Air Canada and our other international airline partners.
  • Air Mauritius flights are eligible for redemption in Business and Economy classes.
  • The partner booking fee will apply for flight rewards which include travel on Air Mauritius.

Wrapping it up

Air Canada, well more specifically, Aeroplan is living up to its claim of being the most internationally connected frequent flyer program in North America. No other program has so many airline partners to choose from to earn and redeem on. Yes many of them are niche carriers that most Aeroplan members will never set foot on but they are perfect for the small percentage who are looking to fly with airlines that may not be considered the norm. Being able to earn and redeem on an airline like Air Mauritius will for some, make it more attractive to choose Aeroplan and Air Canada to get to this sought after Indian Ocean island and beach destination as you'd most likely fly AC to London or Paris and then connect to Air Mauritius.  It's a win-win for the consumer and the airlines.
