Holders of the Capital One Aspire Travel™ World MasterCard® and Capital One® Aspire Travel™ Platinum MasterCard® now have their own dedicated rewards site for the Reward Miles they earn on the cards. The site provides cardholders information on how and where they can redeem their miles (I know this was a complaint for those looking to get the card as originally the Capital One site did not provide much information on this). It also allows cardholders to redeem their miles against the travel charges put onto their cards from any travel vendor. This is a feature I really like and not many other travel anywhere cards are offering this feature yet (TD, Amex, Diners you have to call in to redeem points against your travel charges). Some do have online booking engines like BMO's Elite World MasterCard but the difference with them is that you have to book with them and not with whomever you like.
For non-cardholders they provide a demo on the site as to how it works and it looks quite plain and simple. I applaud Capital One for taking this step in addressing cardholder and non-cardholders concerns with wanting more information on the redemption process. Ok, this is pretty cool and I applaud them for providing this too. However, I was under the impression that you would be able to lump purchases together from the same trip. Instead, it looks like they calculate points based on the value of each item. So I'll need 120,000 total points for my $600 flight + $400 car rental instead of 100,000 ($1,000x100) as I originally thought.
ReplyDeleteI'm new to these cash-back type cards. Is that industry standard?
This is Laurel from Capital One. We're glad you like our new rewards tool.
ReplyDeleteYou're correct, you cannot combine separate purchases when redeeming. For example, if your flight cost $250 and your hotel cost $100, you cannot redeem both travel expenses together for 35,000 reward miles. You will need 35,000 reward miles for the flight and 15,000 reward miles for the hotel.
Here is a tip for you: You could use a travel agent or travel website and combine the flight and hotel into one single purchase that appears on your statement and then redeem it as a single trip. I hope this helps.
Thank you for the clarification, Laurel.
